I'm not sure if you guys ran across the fandom thread about a single actor that fans looking for an unknown have been rooting for..

His name is Ben Ryan.. he is an actor and film student but a single video he did sparked attention because he looked so much like Steve Rogers/Captain America drawings and paintings that have been done. So a Captain America fan stumbled across said video he did and has been trying to point Paramount/Marvel casting towards him in the past several months.

This is the video getting so much attention: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWDyoO42qIw

Of course Ben got news of this and threw together his own version of a Captain America minimovie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkdqgLJMSWQ&annotation_id=annotation_1234&feature=iv

Honestly I think he would look perfect for the part and he is the kind of unknown you want to build a character on..

However, I still think that.. Tahmoh Penikett (aka Halo from Battlestar Galactica and Paul Ballard from Dollhouse) has the best chance to get the part since he has that military look and the chin plus already has established himself among fans as a seasoned actor who can handle a part like Steve.

What about the guy who has actually read for the part? http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3864829184/nm0574131

Does he look the part?

What if this was a picture of Clark Kent and Steve Rodgers together?  http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1891733248/nm0574131

Shogunn2517

Also other actors who have officially read for the role are WB/CW actors that some are like a bit more familiar with; Jensen Ackles(Supernatural/Smallville) and Chad Michael Murray(One Tree Hill/Dawson's Creek/Gilmore Girls).

Of the three, Ryan McPartlin is the oldest, but lesser known and if Johnston was serious about going with an unknown I'd think he'd be the leading candidate... maybe.

Yeah, I watched Super Capers just a few weeks back on a whim and found Ryan McPartlin could fit the role of a superhero quite well.. and I'd be pretty satisfied if he ended up as Captain America since he is quite tall and after some training and bodywork could tone up enough to pull off the enhanced build that a super soldier would need.

Ooh, new info.  The director revealed that the Invaders will feature prominently in the second half of the movie, so you likely will indeed get Namor.

Ohh....I'm...cautiously excited about that.  It would be AWESOME for Namor to actually show up and kick Ratzi backside, but I am a bit concerned about how they'll push it off.  Also, if they introduce six other heroes, it could overshadow Cap.  Still, I'm likely borrowing trouble, and I have to say that seeing some costumed heroes take it to the Nazis would make my year! :D

He doesn't ooze triumphant charisma like Cap should. I do not get the sense that he's a paragon of justice and freedom in this vid, and above all else, that is an absolute necessity for anyone playing the part.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Its video that shows still pictures of him.  He can't exactly ooze or convey anything.

FYI,  Thought I'd link an article that says that the studio's favorite(as of now) is a fan favorite from last year to get the part:
http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2010/02/chris-pine-is-latest-to-be-lin.html

As well as a couple of unknown models who have auditioned.

BTW, considering what they did with the Super Soldier Serum in The Incredible Hulk and with Tim Roth not buffing up(physically) before/after the serum, then I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that they'll pick someone who's physique isn't overly muscled.  Though tone and definition would be understandable(and probably in demand), I doubt having a huge build would be a qualification.  Which would be favorable for someone like Pine.

The second video shows him speachifying as Cap, and frankly he's pretty bad.

My only issue with casting Pine is feeling that Captain Kirk is getting identified as Captain America.  And they have already cast the elder Kirk from that movie as Thor.

So, what you're saying is.....Thor was Cap's father all along?  That makes certain things make a *lot* more sense now!

Wow, like *that* wasn't something straight from the WB/CW writing staff!

well, any ideas on what the plot for the AVENGERS movie may be. do you think they'll unite to fight the hulk like in the original? now that would be something to see!

JeyNyce

That guy Ben Ryan, looks like cap, but he would need a 1yr+ for acting & speech lessons.  Chris Pine is ok for cap, but he's Kirk! Kirk can't be Cap!!  It's unheard of!!! LOL!

I could get behind Jensen Ackles. He's a straight-up badarse in Supernatural, he could totally pull off a charismatic leader figure.

So, he's "announced" for the part in the Avengers movie, but only "rumored" for the part in the Cap movie, which is supposed to come out first???

I'm assuming that the "official" announcement is forthcoming this week.

Sounds like a hoax to me. I'd expect we'd hear about it from news sites first.

Not necessarily, Podmark.

What's more likely is that someone is jumping the gun and leaking it before the formal announcement is made.

Panther_Gunn

Personally, if it were my company, I would *FIRE* the PR person who officially announced who was playing a part in a sequal before it was officially announced that he was playing the same part in the movie it's supposed to be a sequal of.

Seriously, let's look at the "Cast" they have listed for the Avengers movie so far.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/fullcredits#cast

Iron Man, Thor, and Nick Fury are all pretty solid, barring anything strange happening between then & now.

Hawkeye, Black Widow, War Machine, and Loki?!?  Is there even an approved script yet?  Are any of these characters even *in* the movie?  Having Hawkeye as "Rumored" is one thing, but those others is just plain wild supposition based on the fact that they've been cast in other movies.  I highly doubt we'll see Black Widow or War Machine in the Avengers movie, because it will be hard enough to get proper screen time for everyone else that needs to be in it, let alone they shouldn't even be in an Avengers story for quite some time down the road, if at all.  Loki is a possible initial foil for the team, but until it's been announced, that should be listed as "Rumored" as well.

And then we get to the Hulk.  I can see Norton being "Rumored", if he hasn't comitted to the picture yet, but to really have Ferigno down as the voice of the Hulk, even rumored, makes me put as much faith in IMDB as I would AICN.

ok, I'm done ranting for the evening.  Don't anybody take it personally.  ;)

I did a little detective work.  It seems as if IMDB is using the link from the MTV Splashpage that says John Krasinski is the "Fan Favorite" in a poll with the other four actors who are on the reported shortlist(Chace Crawford, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel and Michael Cassidy).  Of those five Cassidy and Porter have stated that they will not be receiving the role.  Of the other three, though Krasinski is listed on The First Avenger and The Avengers and has the role listed under his bio, but so does Crawford and Vogel.  Beyond that, Joe Johnston had walked away due to salary constraints and we know of Terrance Howard's and other actors in Marvel productions have had problems with salary constraints, I think Marvel would want someone who they think won't command a larger salary, which would not lend to them selecting Krasinski.

For some reason, IMDB seems to be going off of a fan poll of who is the favorite(I CERTAINLY don't understand why) and billed him.  They've been wrong before, but since Chace Crawford and Mike Vogel both also have "The First Avenger: Captain America" on their pages, we can't say that he has the role yet.

A guy at work told me Ben Afleck had been confirmed for the part of Cap. I had to go into the break room so I could let out my scream of fury without customers hearing. I am so glad it is not true.

I'm gonna punch him for scaring me like that though.

Silly face, Ben Affleck has said he'd never wear a costume again after he did Daredevil because it was a source of embarrassment for him.
