I thought the acting was a little meh.  But it's good enough for a TV.

This was a decent episode.  I am so glad that

Smallville has been officially renewed for a 10th season.

I'm really impressed the show has gone on this long, and honestly I don't find the quality has really dipped.

Really? Not even during the whole "Lana is a witch" nonsense back in season 3? 4?

muahahaha (evil laugh) you don't have to go back that far to find a lame plot/episode.
I wish they'd do like with DBZ, make a new version of smallville with all the nonsense/useless scene cut out. The tenth season was pretty much a given, the show was cleary not aiming at closure for this year. let's hope it will be the last...

That's when I completely stopped watching.

DBZ without nonsense?
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

lol yeah that was a low point, but I'm talking more the last few seasons. I've never considered the show to be great in any way but it's usually around the same level of quality for me on the whole.

Right now Smallville is the best rated Friday show the CW's ever had.  Expect them to keep renewing the show as long as they thing they can get away with it, and then try to do a spinoff or continuation of some sort.  Frankly, I wish they'd do a JSA series instead.  I'd go for that.

well, less nonsense ^^ the "not in the manga" parts to be more specific. plus it no longer requires 3 episode to change a lightbulb. if you're interested, check "dbz kai", that the name of this remake. it's for the 20th anniversary of DBZ i think, remade in HD 16/9 and redubbed by the original cast...with all the filler episode cut out.

the "lana is a witch" almost killed the show for me, but it definitly got better. oh wait, wasn't there a "warrior angel" episode like two weeks ago, where
Spoiler
zatanna acted like a tramp and tried to bone clark while chloe was trying to have sex with a little boy turned into a perfect man-pet?
yeah, much better indeed. i swear, seeing that just a week after the JSA episode made me yell at my screen "WHY...ARE...YOU...DOING...THAT!"

catwhowalksbyhimself

Wait a minute, are you seriously saying you didn't like the JSA episode?  I can recommend a few good doctors for you.

I read Trelau's comment as meaning that, just when the series looked like it was going so well (the JSA episode), they suddenly through in a really bad episode and ruined things.

(Note- I don't currently have a working tv, so I haven't actually seen any of these episodes first hand, so I can't personally comment on them.)
Fear the "A"!!!

Trelau

Yes Alaric, that's what i meant: the work on the JSA episode was really good; they could have launch a JSA spin off if they wanted to: costume, actors, characters and plot were the best smallville had seen for this season. and they ruined everything with the next episode. they actually could have attracted and fidelize (not sure if the word exist ) new viewers: use JSA to draw attention, then  for the next 2-3 weeks doing a little more effort than usual on plot and guest money to have a JSA guy make cameo apperence (stargirl really could have started a "civilian" relationship with the others) to get the new viewers hooked and THEN decrease quality of episode like expected.
But they choose the full-stop "you though the show was good? well watch THAT!" option. In a way, that very bold. Or stupid, i can't decide.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Well then punctuation is your friend. Here's what I saw--"the JSA episode made me yell at my screen. . ."

So I read that as more ridiculousness after the JSA episode already made you upset.

But you're right, it probably wasn't the best way to right after the high point of the season, if not the series.

Trelau

to be fair i exactly wrote "seeing that just a week after the JSA episode made me yell at my screen" emphasis added of course, but i don't see how i could have ponctuated that differently
i wouldn't go as far as saying this episode was the high point of the show though (the legion episode was pretty awesome too) or even of the season: Zod is the best actor out here for the moment, and since last week's evolution of the character we can hope for a great finale.
btw, was there no episode this week?

Comma before just and after episode, preventing me from reading it the way I did.  As written, it could be read as  "this episode came a week after my watching the JSA episode which made me yell at the screen" or "the episode which made me scream came a week after of the JSA episode".  You could easily read it both ways as written, and of course I inevitably chose the wrong one, which shouldn't surprise anyone.

Previsionary

As much as I try to prevent myself from making posts about grammar, Cat... that's a no. Commas wouldn't go where you suggested. That's not to say he couldn't have worded it better. All it [the sentence] was missing was a noun such as the word episode to make it more lucid.
Disappear when you least expe--

catwhowalksbyhimself

A slight re-wording would have been better, that is true.

At any case, it was basically a misunderstanding.  I think we can all agree that the JSA ep was awesome and if they ever wanted a seriously good premise for a Smallville spinoff, this is it.

I love this forum so much.....I went from reading bad papers to reading this, and it just made me happy to see people actually THINKING about how they write things.  Ha, thank you gentlemen.

On topic, I may have to track down the JSA episode at some point in time.  I have vehemently avoided Smallville for years (approximately since it should have ended the first time), but that seems like something worth breaking that self-imposed embargo for (like Aquaman and JLA episodes years ago).

I have become a fan again of this show. I have grown bored of Smallville's version of Clark (Superman) and found myself rooting for Zod. Now that Zod has gained his powers, thanks to Clark, let the heads roll.

Trelau

I'm sorry to dig up that thread, but Shortpacked! just did a comic that perfectly resume that season of Smallville

http://shortpacked.com/comic/book-11/02-the-relationshipocalypse/noflightsnotights/

Joke aside, the Checkmate arc/villain has become more interesting than the Zod-Kandorian arc. The fact that they are suppose to stay for the 10th season clearly affected the way they handled the Zod/Clark relationship, for better or for worse (seems worse for the moment, but maybe it will be awesome after...yeah, sure)

Trelau

I know i'm the only one posting here, but still:
the season finale was actually pretty good. Some character development, a great intro, an almost-return from the JLA/JSA, and a very comicbook-esque fight to the death in the end.
That one i might rewatch (it's not as good as the Legion or JSA episode, but for a season finale it's better than the doomsday one)

I liked it too but
Spoiler
I really doubt that Zod would make such a stupid mistake, when he whispered to Clark that he killed Faora and their unborn child. Did he forget that the Kandorians all have super hearing? Also Clark holding his own (after the blue Kryptonite exposure) against Krypton's legendary soldier? I don't think so.

Spoiler

Remember Zod just got these powers.  He's not used to them yet, he's used to being powerless, so the superhearing thing never occurred to him.

Also, Clark's had to fight against opponents of equal strength several times before, so he's had some experience.  Zod is also a legendary general, not necessarily an especially brilliant soldier.  He's doubtless had better training, but Clark has experience on his side.

EDIT:  You know, I forgot all about Jor-El's extensive training all this season.  Clark probably has the advantage in the training factor as well.

Spoiler
I think the beginning was almost worth watching for the entire episode.  We get a glimpse of two years in the future and we see Lois being Lois, we see(hear) that Jimmy Olsen is a photographer at the Daily Planet(not going to go as far as say resurrected) and more importantly, we see (reflected) the symbolic costume.  Though I really didn't much care for the entire Kandorian arch, I liked the progression of the season.  We're given characters and plots from the Universe and introduced into this universe, Checkmate, Zod, JSA, Waller and Lord.  And of course Clark being Superman("the blur"(they really could have come up with a better name(something much more heroic))).  I just wish he flies already damnit.  Bring on the effin tights.  The whole "No flights, no tights and no Lana" rule should have been left when Smallville was just in Smallville.  Now it's a completely different show than it was nine years ago.  Only two original cast members left and we know this is like Survivor or Highlander and there can be only one... and we know who that is.  At least if we're going on to at least another year(and we see no more than two more) give us a treat by the end of the show.  I'm just curious what could next season bring?  Undoubtedly, Lex has to return... somehow.  Likely won't see Bruce Wayne/Batman, but that would be a good treat.  Callum Blue is signed for another year.Maybe the return of another villain.  Bizarro, Brianiac or someone alien?

And does anyone know who that old lady was that was sewing outside of Tess Mercer's hospital room?

catwhowalksbyhimself

Spoiler

Olsen's funeral revealed that in the Smallville universe there are 2 Jimmy Olsens.  The one who appeared in earlier seasons was Henry James Olsen.  As revealed at the funeral, he has a younger brother who is apparently the Jimmy Olsen of the comic books and the one that will be working at the Planet.

My guess for next season:
Spoiler
Apokolips. The old woman sewing outside Tess's room is Granny Goodness, maybe recruiting Tess as a Fury. And the non-Kandorians that Ollie faced could be Parademons.

Spoiler
wasn't there an announcement that Zod would be in season 10 too? we even though that they wouldn't conclude the Kandorian arc this year because of this...Weird, i'd have to check this

thalaw2

Who would've expected this series to last so long?!?!?!  And still be worth watching?!?!
Spoiler
The show down between Zod and Clark was awesome.  I wish the show down between Peter and Syler was have that good on Heroes.  I'm tied of the "The Blur" too.  It's time for them to give us what we've waited 10 years for, Superman!  I was expecting to see the cape inside that box and I probably would have jumped up and ran a few laps around my living room if it was shown to be there.

The whole suit was in that box. We saw it reflected in Clark's eyes when he opened it.
