Geez, they're already talking about a "franchise reboot"?  Not so sure about Raimi, but good casting can replace Maguire and Dunst without needing to "reboot".

Still, I suppose anything that erases the whole S-M3 emo hair-flipping Peter from continuity can't be all bad...

Didn't you know BB, everything must stay new and fresh, while being derivitive and recycled as much as possible!

Not that I'm bitter at Hollywood or anything.

C'mon!  This series doesn't need a reboot! :P

I agree, BG.  One movie aside (the one whose novelization I put down in disgust and refused to go see in the theatre), it's been a great run so far.

Certainly I would not want to see them start over with any Doc Ock inferior to the one we got in S-M2.

Hollywood needs to recognize that you can change superhero faces/actors from movie to movie without starting over, as long as the casting remains excellent from beginning to end and the screenplay makes who is who obvious up front.  There are a lot of movie-worthy storylines in comic-book history.  I'd hate to get stuck with only the origin stories and the odd sequel or three because they're afraid to change the face.

Just don't make the costumes/look unrecognizable.  As long as Spider-Man looks like Spider-Man, us "ignorant" fanboys will get it.

You know, everyone hates S-M3, but I really enjoyed it.  It had its weaknesses, no doubt about it, but I thought the whole storyline "worked" well enough.  I think they can pick right up where they left off.  As a matter of fact, the return of Harry and his redemption should be a major plot point.

The Hitman

The only reason I could see a reboot happening is if it means Spider-Man gets moved to the Marvel production company. So that the character could be used in crossover movies, like Avengers or Marvel Team-Up: The Movie or something.

Yep, I think Mysterio could be quite awesome, plus they've already done some concept art for the Scorpion.

Mysterio would certainly be good for awesome sfx.  Not so sure he's good for a great plot.  The one plot I can see for him would be one where he's framing Spidey for his crimes.

Scorpion would be just about anti-climactic after Ock and Venom.  Plus I can't see the movie version of JJJ financing a Scorpion at this point, so they'd have to depart from the comic-book origin.  Not necessarily a bad thing, but if they've got to reinvent him to make him work what's the point?

No, they need to continue with two of Spidey's "A" list villains (preferably not both at the same time):  Electro and the Lizard.  Electro is not only good for awesome sfx, he classifies as a major threat.  The Lizard reintroduces Doc Connors and then Spider-Man's got to cure him.  The best part of these two villains is that Peter needs to use ALL of his abilities to defeat them; he needs to be both superhero and scientist.

Good points BB.  I think Mysterio would be a lot of fun as a minor villain (think Scarecrow in Batman Begins), but he would have some trouble carrying a plot by himself.  I don't think he really needs to, since Spidey does have such a great Rogue's gallery.  I would DEFINITELY love to see the Lizard!  I think that, story wise, he's probably got some of the best poetential of Spidey's remaining villains.  That's just such a great tale.  I'm not as enthused about Electro, but that's just because I don't have any strong feelings about him either way.

I think it'd be good pairing them.

The TAS origin for Scorpion used Connor's gene splicing technology. It'd fit having both of them in the movie.

Podmark

To be honest once you get past the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom and the Lizard I'm not sure many of Spidey's villains could really carry a movie as an A villain without adding something to their story. Most of them would make great B or C villains though. The Sinister Six as a group could carry a movie. Morlun or the clone saga probably could but I'm not sure I want to go there. A gang war could definitely work and it's classic Spidey fun.

Gang War? that says "Kingpin recruits Supervillains" Which would work for the Sinister Six nicely.

deano_ue

if i had my way

4 would be lizard and kraven
5 would be the sinister six ( bring back ock and kraven and sandman and add the minor lot such as electro, mysterio etc) have the end of the film reveal that norman was behind the group but as a cliffhanger
6 ends the series with spidey vs the real goblin

Jakew

Norman has to come back at some point. It's already been established in Spiderman 3 that the Green Goblin serum makes people heal faster than normal.

I agree with this for the most part. This spoiler below is pretty long. If you feal like reading go ahead. Either way, it is time to kill off Gwen stacy. My spoiler does just that. Gwen was my favorite of his girlfriends, and I love who was cast, but she was supposed to die at the end of part 1.
Spoiler
I am still borderline with who i would like for the six, but i think that rather than norman gathering the six, in part 5, subtly but very bluntly(i know, contriversial. Just hang in there, punn intended.) state that oscorp has been bought up by the infamous billionare Roderick Kingsley. Peter and Gwen(In four M.J. realizes she is tired of playing second fiddle) are terribly upset about this. Peter knowing this is not what Norman or Harry inteded for the company, and Gwen knowing How Kingsley actually got all of his money(criminal activity through his companies expenses). The news is then, as i said previously, mentioned thoroughly though subtley throughout the entire movie(you know, background shots of TV newscasts, J.J. complaining, rado, citizens talking amoungst themeselves).  At somepoint in the movie, maybe as the final battle sequence, have the six attack Kingsley. After all is said and done, show Kingsley talking to his assistant who asks if he needs anything. He says no thank you as she leaves, then turns around, picks up an orange goblin helmet/a muscle enhancer, and says "We have some unfinished buissiness to attend to." Then end with the menacing hob goblin laugh. This then sets up part 6 for a duel goblin sequence. You could then shock spiderman by seeing a goblin that is not Norman or Harry, and then make him really  think he is crazy when he sees the green goblion flyingh around later on. Thus, the "I am the real/better/more menacing goblin" debattical begins. Who can blow up the most buildings? Who can terrorize the most neighbor hoods? And finally, who can destroy spiderman? Norman automattically wins, seeing that Peter is in love with a new woman. He kidnaps Gwen Stacy and takes her to the top of, let's say the empire state building. So, they tumble for a bit, Spidey is knocked off his feet by the Hob Goblin who zooms in realizing that the Green goblin is about to finsish spiderman off. Seeing as Goblin has Gwen in his arms, Hobgoblin connects 1(ruining spiderman)&2(the girl) together and knocks her off of the roof(thus, he would be the reason the girl died, ruining spiderman, I.E. He wins). Spidey dives over the side leaving the dueling goblins to bicker/finish eachother off, and slings a massive web line out onto Gwens leg, "Hook, line and sinker!" He thinks. He whips her upwards and we the audience hear the most excruciating snap we have ever heard. He pulls her up to his level, notices shes dead, and the goes after the Green goblin in reaction. While veating him to a pulp, Hob Goblin realizes this is not a competion he wants to win, and the flies away. I'm not sure where we go from, here, but in the end Green Goblin is dead again, Hob Goblin is in Jail, and Peter and M.J. are finally married.
Just my take on it, but i think there could be better potential than the story i had written out. I defenitely want to see hob goblin in there eventually.

Is the Lizard for sure in Spidey 4?  If not, he should be, as they've already intro'ed Dr Connors.

I also hate how they keep killing off all of his villains.  Why not have some villains appear to die, only to show the audience by the end of the film that they might have survived somehow?

Norman is pretty dead, right?  Doctor Octopus must have drown?  I didn't see SM 3, but did both Eddie Brock/Venom and Harry die?  From the pics I've seen, Harry looked like a really lame excuse for a Green Goblin II, though(if that's what he was meant to be)...And people thought the Spider-Man I Goblin armor was bad?

Villains I'd like to see (I know these probably echo a few of other's choices)...The Lizard, Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter (I also think Liz and Kraven would be a good combo for a film), Electro, Scorpion, The Vulture, The Chameleon and maybe the Rhino.  I say go with the oldies, but goodies....I think Venom was a bad idea for a villain to use.

Y'know... My personal feeling is that they messed up introducing Venom in S-M3.  But since they done did it anyway, maybe merging the Scorpion and Venom concepts is a way to go?  Yes it would depart from Marvel continuity and a lot of fans would rebel.  What else is new?

A symbiote-based Scorpion might work.

As to others...

Green Goblin/Norman Osborne was supposed to be dead in comic continuity as well and he came back from that.  Don't see why having him come back for a movie is any large stretch.

Doc Ock looks a little more problematical, but the AI's of his arms were very big on both protecting him and on self-preservation.  I can imagine the arms saving him, maybe he has some memory loss due to oxygen deprivation, and he's back to being a villain again.

I've always thought that Doc Ok could very easily be brought back.  As BlueBard said, the AI's in his arms could have easily pulled him out and saved him.  The oxygen depravation explanation isn't even necessary.  He barely managed to overpower the AIs in the first place.  Just say that when he awoke, they overwhelmed him completely.

Noooooooooo... I hope he's is dead. I never want to see him again. Out of all Spider-man's villians I despies him the most. He is just not interesting at all. Bring on the Lizard and Shocker!

P.S Sry I have no love for the Doc

marhawkman

I don't see any need for Octavius to be dead at all or even incapacitated.

Just state that he swam out of the river and simply didn't feel like showing his fgace.

One of the things I don't like about a lot of these current movies is that the term "reboot" seems to be the buzz word thrown around a LOT. Why does it have to be a "reboot?" It kind of makes it sound like these studios are pretending the previous movies didn't exist, or half-way admitting they messed up somewhere and want to start over. They could just call it, you know, a different take on a franchise or something.

Now, I love the Spider-Man films. He's my favorite superhero of all. And even though Raimi has proven himself, despite Spider-Man 3's major flaws, I kind of want to see someone else take a spin at the material. One of the really lacking elements of the films was how important Spider-Man's secret identity is. It's briefly touched on in the first film. He realizes if his identity is known, then enemies like the Green Goblin will attack those he loves, like MJ and Aunt May. But by the third film, everyone in his life seems to know who he is. Spider-Man often willingly takes off his mask, like in Spider-Man 2 during the train scene. I understand Raimi does this so his actors can act and show emotion, but in so doing he sacrifices one of the more important aspects of the character. I wouldn't mind someone else doing a better job with the material, but ONLY if they can do a better job. Otherwise, I'm fine with Raimi, as long as we don't have another cluster**** like Spider-Man 3.

for villains, I like Scorpion, but they'd probably have to change a lot of stuff about him. His tail would probably have to be much more destructive just so he can compete with villains we've already seen. Lizard and Kraven make sense from a story stand point, but Lizard as the Lizard I never really liked that much. Personally, I'd also like to see a female villain like Black Cat be in it somehow. B list villains like Electro, Mysterio, Rhino, Shocker, Vulture, etc, I have a hard time believing they could carry a movie unless they rework their background similar to what they did with Sandman, who started out as an unfortunate thug, but for the movie changed him into a struggling father.
