yell0w_lantern

Yeah, I saw that test trailer on the web several months ago. I'm still waiting for that Dark Crystal sequel that was supposedly in production so I'm not going to count my TRONs before they hatch.

Didn't you see the pictures from the set on that page? It is in prduction now! I'm PUMPED!

yell0w_lantern

Well, they had a set to do the test trailer.
Yellow Lantern smash!

docdelorean88

Yeah, but specific pictures say Encom. Even wikipedia says it is in production. The imdb changed the title to tron 2.0 (i don't like it).

JeyNyce

It was a teaser trailer.  I want to see a Tron 2 too   There hasn't been solid updates in a while.

From what I've been able to research, he's correct.  It began production in Canada a couple of weeks ago.

I still don't buy the rumors that TRON 2 has a budget of 300 million, cause the license is nowhere even close to that strong to justify such an investment. If it is true I have a bridge I'd like to sell Disney.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Actually 240 mil, since that figure was in Canadian currency.

It is possible.  Tron is a huge classic.  The studio, however, says that figure isn't even close, and they would know.  Besides, Disney tends to be overly stingy with their budgets sometimes, hence their losing the Narnia franchise.

You can see FACES, and the title is no longer TR2N or Tron 2.0. Tron legacy is coming in IMAX Disney 3D ...GAME ON...

Makes sense.  Tron 2.0 was the computer game and supposedly a sequel to the original movie.  So this new movie would be Tron 3 or 2.?

Also, the number 2 looks nothing like the letter O. Not even a little bit! T2ON would've been stupid, but still made a little more sense.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

I haven't seen any trailers yet, but I do love the original Tron.  I think that a new movie set in that universe could be excellent...I wonder if Bruce Boxleitner will show up again?

From what I read, the setting is supposed to be more 'realistic' looking.  The teaser shows a world with less of that bright neon glow that made the look of the original so distinctive, although the lightcycles do look really nice.

The rumors say Boxleitner is in it, it seems, but not as TRON.  The programmer who originally wrote TRON (Alan Bradley) is now the CEO of the company.  As far as I can tell, there is no TRON in TRON Legacy.  There is only Flynn ("Flynn Lives") played again by Jeff Bridges.  The teaser is VERY vague, but it almost feels like Jeff Bridges playing Obadiah Stane playing Flynn if you get what I'm saying.

I don't know enough to know how I feel about it, really.  29 years is a long, long time to wait for a 'sequel'.

Aww, that's a shame.  The visuals of the first one were one of the coolest parts. :)

What they are trying to do is make things more sleak and slim. Modernise it. The #1 rule of technology now is the smaller the better. So that is where they are going. There will still be color highlights, but much less. It is just to keep interpretation in a modern style. Did you see the trailer on the link i posted? It shows what they want it to look like. And even though it is many years later, i think it will be reasonably successfull. I think they are trying to give the series a kick. If they can get some interest in it again maybe this movie will act as a reboot.

I would add that the teaser is just too short to be able to tell what the whole movie is going to look like and doesn't give enough context to understand what's happening.  Heck, the teaser footage might not even be in the release version.

Watch it, wait for a full trailer, then make up your mind.

Like I said, I haven't been able to watch it yet (working on my thesis at the moment, so can't bring myself to admit I'm slacking off enough to watch a trailer), but I do want to check it out.

Just picked up the Tron Legacy Soundtrack - Talk about hooking up the perfect composers for gig minus John Williams for Star Wars, Superman - This soundtrack rocks & can't wait to hear it go along with the visuals of the movie - Nice work Daft Punk!

Its too bad i keep hearing the movie is pretty to look at, but generally poor in every other sense.

BWPS

I'm going to see this fo sho!

Possible spoiler in every single preview:
Spoiler
It's really awesome that Jeff Bridges is in it. I just wish that it wasn't spoiled in the previews. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like that's going to be a big part of the movie.

This seems to be a movie you can't really trust critics on. When they see any kind of action movie they expect Die Hard guy/Han Solo/Tony Stark levels of charisma and when a movie doesn't have that kind of character, they say it lacks "substance". That's why movies like Speed Racer get so ripped apart and a successful action comedy will get more good reviews all around. I could be wrong, maybe this movie is just stupid. But it looks awesome enough to go see.

Sometimes, that might be enough.  I think TRON Legacy might turn out to be one of those movies that is so visually satisfying that nobody cares too much about the plot.  Certainly the original would have sunk into obscurity without what were pretty cool visual elements for that time; bad visuals would have killed it dead.

Um, who wouldn't be excited. Everybody I know is.

Also, Boy, you are totally right. Speed Racer was awesome and should have gotten a million degrees of love. Seeing it in Imax was mind blowing. If Tron is half as awesome (although I think it will be better) then it will have done the job. Plus Daft Punk.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Actually, I though Speed Racer was a poor movie too.  Looked pretty, but made no sense whatsoever other than that.

Hopefully Tron doesn't suffer from that same problem.

I normally want a decent story along with all the eye candy, but in this case I just want something that isn't terrible.

Agreed sir, i felt it was a relatively faithful rendition of the classic. They did a good job modernizing it.

Speed Racer is not a poor movie by any stretch.  It's not a great movie, either.  However, I think a lot of people give the movie a bad rap BECAUSE all the pretty visuals does distract from the story at points.

As for Tron, the first one was not great by an stretch of the imagination but wasn't poor either.  It was a good visual effects film and ahead of its time in the effects department but it was not a great film.  Again, I think the issue was that the effects overwhelmed the story.  I don't expect much from the sequel to be improved.  I'll give it a chance, of course, but the most I am expecting is something as good as the original.  (And yes, I liked the original.)
