Costume Rating 48: CW Flash costume

The CW's Flash series premièred earlier tonight, so it's time to review the costume:

2: The Flash has got a near perfect costume, and there's no excuse for botching its translation this badly.  The belt is terrible, the symbol is too small and gets lost in all that red, and the jacket belongs in a 50s sci-fi serial.

I, OTOH, like it.  I find the look to be a nice melding of a "Science Hero" look and the Flash's classic look.  True, it's not as accurate as the original live-action series, and I can live with that.  I'd personally do something different with the gold on the boots,  but overall, I'd say it's a nice translation to live action.

I dislike it. It's very busy with lots of small details and it could use more gold/yellow.
However, having watched the first episode, you don't really notice many of the smaller details and the mask looks great for the close ups. A slightly brighter red might be worthwhile. Overall, while I don't love it I think it does a good job for season 1.

The creators have said that the suit will evolve over the course of the show. Right now it's more utilitarian, but I imagine it will become more superhero as the show goes on.

4 for me. Not bad looking, i think it really works as a starter suit, def looks like it.

2. I've been postponing this one because I still haven't watched the show yet. That said, I am only going off of the pics I have seen online, and not the actual show.

I definitely agree with Pod, the Costume has that Nu52 overly designed look, and there's not nearly enough Yellow. I'm hoping to watch the show this weekend, but I don't see my vote changing. I really do hope the Costume becomes more streamlined as the show progresses.

C'mon, it's The FLASH; it oughtta be flashy. The problem I had with the old TV series was that it tried to be Batman and have Flash operate mostly at night (maybe that is just a faulty memory-but it sure seems like it to me). All darkness and shadows.

On the other hand, this version looks better than the one from the JLA pilot.

Watched a bunch of episodes over the Summer and that seems about right.

On old tv series:
I think that was an effects/budgetary issue coupled with the popularity of the Burton Batman.

On current:
I find it interesting that so far, it's an even split between like and dislike, with no "no strong feelings"

Honestly, I hand wave any hate for this costume... the writers have stated that Flash's costume will "evolve" over the course of the show, and considering right now it's essentially a glorified Fireman's uniform, I think it does its job. If it doesn't really change after 2 years, then I'll worry about it

That's pretty much where I was coming from with my rating. When I look at this suit as a starter one it fares much better then something that he's gonna wear on regular basis.

I admit that hearing that makes me less worried about it, but that doesn't make it any less ugly.

Hmmmm...he looks awkward and uncomortable. But it's decent. I like the mask the most. Somewhere in between a 3 and a 4 for me. I'll just round down. 3.
