Actually, CBS announced a new Star Trek series to premiere the same year as the 50th anniversary (2017, I believe).  There are no details as of yet, except that it'll be on CBS' terrible streaming service rather than television proper, or a legitimate streaming service like Netflix.

That news is coming from a Paramount source that acknowledges while the movies have to be more "action paced" to keep the audience glued to their seats in the theater (Star Trek Beyond is WAY WAY more action film without the use of the Enterprise) they needed to create a "Explore Space For Science" version of Trek which easily fits into a 13 episode arc with a slightly larger budget because of the smaller amount of shows. My guess is it will be much more classic style focusing on a 5 year mission (5 seasons built in?) of the new Enterprise-B or Excalibur crew (which allows for the movie crew to have guest appearances in their new post-Beyond roles).

Star Trek is a good franchise if you want to make Fast and Furious in space, make a different movie. Fans don't deserve that. I like action and I liked the last two movies a lot, and yes they pushed in a different direction, but the characters were good and it felt Trekky enough. This seems like a bigger push too far in that direction and the trailer shows stunts and fights just like the FnF trailers. No plot suggestion, not much dialog, nothing I want to see. Yes it's just a trailer but it definitely shows a lot of scenes very quickly so it's likely indicative of the movie. I'll likely still enjoy it, I love the actors (especially Bones) and maybe the script will be fine, but it does not look good and doesn't look like what I want from a Star Trek movie.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.
