Don't let him do it! He'll use it to wash places you don't even wanna' know about...

Otherwise, glad to have ya, Dogman! Seriously, I don't stop by here much these days, but I can tell you that FR is really a great, friendly bunch. Except for me, 'cause I'm F'ING NUTS! Care for refreshments? :)

Welcome, coming from a guy who just got active some months ago, this place is pretty sweet.

Welcome to the Freedom Reborn community, where the syrup is thick and the pancakes plentiful.

One warning, though.  Don't touch Death's Jester's booze.  He'll bite you.

Finally, my arch enemy has arrived.  I look forward to plotting your inevitable demise.

Nah, I'm going to lull him into a false sense of security, then trick a patsy into doing it and taking the fall for me which I purr quietly in contentment and feign innocence.

You know, it doesn't do you much good to formulate a cunning plan when you announce said cunning plan to your adoring befuddled public.

Nah, no one will actually believe me and everyone will forget it in a few weeks.

Welcome, Dogman. You'll find this to be a great, if somewhat -- how shall I say it? -- unique, community.  :)

I'm not as active in Freedom Force as I used to be, but I still come here quite a bit just to see what's going on. There are a lot of talented skinners and modders here; they've helped keep FF alive and well for a lot of us.

daglob

...and don't forget the meshers and the scopers, without whom all us skinners would be doing nothing but twiddling our thumbs.

And welcome, Dogman.

...And Mappers, DaGlob...LOL.

Welcome to FF, Dogman!

Certainly not forgotten.  Why, my office clock (which has pictures in place of numbers) would look ridiculous if they hadn't made meshes/skopes for me to hang my skins on! :D

Hey Dana!  Great to see you on the boards, man! :D

Hey, I'm new too, but figured it would be less clutter to recycle another newbie thread.

Installed the steam version and it seems to be running right.  But I can't for the life of me figure out how to make Minuteman examine objects.
Not the monument, not passerby, and worst of all not the marked informational signs that are necessary to learn the game and apparently advance the mission.

The icon is a fist, and when I left click it does nothing to examine objects.  Right click gives move to, helper, and his superpower.  No examine option.  What am I doing wrong.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help a noob.

Welcome to the FR community, FNG!

I'm assuming that your issue is with the first game, :ff:

If it's the first game, all you have to do is go to your desktop shortcut, right-click it, go to "Properties", click the tab that says "Compatibility", and then check "Disable Desktop composition". :)

To the new guys welcome to the community and don't be afraid of the weirdos here. They are not as crazy as they seem. They are much more ...

Welcome to the community FNG!  Anyway, I'm glad you've joined us, and I'm sure you'll find this the best community on the Internet. :D

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!  And extra thanks to spydermann for the tip.  It worked!  Indirectly!  Maybe that last word doesn't warrant its own exclamation mark.  Fair point.

Anyway, you were correct, was working on getting the original FF to work in Win7/64bit.  My desktop FF icon didn't have the compatibility tab in Properties, so I hunted down the FF.exe icon in the SteamApp folder, and sure enough there it was.  But after checking its Disable Desktop Comp, it still didn't work.  Shut down steam and restarted it and tried FF again.  Nope.  Restarted computer and tried again.  Nope.  Minuteman still in Hulk Smash mode.

Do over.  Googled 'freedom force disable desktop composition'.  It was the first time I googled that, thanks to your post.  Had been trying "Freedom Force" along with stuff like ' examine objects command' or 'won't examine' or "how the #@!! do you examine objects?".  Anyway, googling the DDC fix produced all new search hits with many more colorful metaphors by FF newbs about the "Fist Bug".  Googled FF 'Fist bug'.  Many new hits; some on the strange side, and some unrepeatable.

First tried a couple of recommended variations of your fix without success.  Skipped suggestions involving ritual sacrifice of my Logitech mouse, smashing my SB Audigy with a hammer, and reducing the game resolution so low that Minuteman looked like a character wisely dropped by the author of the Apple II classic "Lemonade Stand".   Then I finally got to a google hit for something about fixing 'Fist Bug and Movement Issues'.

Was so frustrated by the non-examination thing that I hadn't bothered to complain to google about Minuteman's tendency to autonomously accost women passing by, run drunkenly through the bushes, and randomly hide behind objects like a five year old.  Sure enough, that fix worked, though it was complicated:  load or start a new campaign by clicking on the upper left corner of either of those buttons so that you don't start the cursor on an object of any kind and get the resulting Hulk Smash icon first thing after the cutscene concludes.   :banghead:  AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!

Uh, I mean... Cool! It's working!  Never would've found the treasure trove of 'Fist bug' ideas without your DDC help, spydermann!  Thanks!  I'm off to examine (the very word now sends shivers down my spine) red exclamation points first thing in the very late morning!  Minuteman and I may not save the world, but we can at least stop randomly crushing lamp posts and asking the nice ladies of Patriot City Park what their sign is.

BentonGrey

Ha!  I'm glad you got it working, FNG.  Too bad you skipped the ritual sacrifice.  It might have saved you time; those always work! ;)

Thanks.  Still have an old MS PS2 mouse in storage in case a future problem requires desperate measures.  Now that Minuteman has rejoined polite society, any suggestions for how to develop his powers or a good way to get him through the Strange Visitors stealth mission would be appreciated.  Trying to play the game without relying on walkthroughs, but have nothing against a tip here or there from experts.
