Note: Obviously, I didn't put the title of the movie in the thread title with possible spoilers of the previous movie included, so it's up to you how far you want to proceed.

Spoiler

A tease of the next X-Men movie being developed.  A better view can be seen on Bryan Singer's Instagram: http://instagram.com/bryanjaysinger

After the last one, I'm definitely in, though with some reservations.  I'm looking forward to it. :)

New actors for Jean, Storm and Cyclops...  Are they new(like Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult)?  Or are these just additions via flash backs(Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy)?

Bryan Singer has stated that X-Men: Apocalypse is moving forward with the First Class cast into the '80s (X-Men: First Class was in the '60s and X-Men: Days Of Future Past was in the '70s) which probably starts with old Xavier (Patrick Stewart) doing a voice over explaining to future Logan one of the biggest battles they had in the time adjusted future. I would figure that Beast and Xavier would reopen the Xavier Institute and start finding the founding members of the movieverse X-Men while they were still very young (Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey) being the first among them and then others along the way. Events in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: The Last Stand were erased from existence by different choices made by Magneto, Mystique, and Stryker which sends them on different paths, so the future of anyone is completely open to Singer's storyline.

The new FOX production crew involved with Gambit, Deadpool, and X-Men: Apocalypse have stated that all of their Marvel movies (including the rebooted Fantastic Four) would be woven into a planned saga with extreme forethought of making sure that nothing contradicts or conflicts with each other from this point forward. Singer's Days Of Future Past gave them a clean slate to build on and they want to make sure they can use this younger cast to build a whole new franchise that can run as long as Disney's Cinematic Universe with spin-offs, crossovers, and huge story arcs that last over Phases of production.

Note: I'm assuming that Mystique ends up taking charge of Weapon X and assembling her own team including Wolverine before she joins up with the X-Men during their fight with Apocalypse. Magneto obviously forms his Brotherhood with Quicksilver and many of the other mutants who heard his speech of calling mutants together but forms some kind of Mutantopia instead of going to war with humankind.

Count Patrick Stewart and Ian Mackellan out of X-men Apocalypse - Stewart confirmed this week that they won't be in the film.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Why would they be?  It was stated from the beginning that this was a First Class film, not another crossover.  We won't see any of the previous actors return, unless they bring in Wolverine for some reason.
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

Shogunn2517

Is it?  I mean, XMFC seemed to go out it's way to make it seem more like a prequel if anything.  A crossover would suggest not just a different timeline, but a completely different take.

Well, it looks good.  There are a lot of things I think I'd change, if I had my druthers, but it does look good nonetheless.

The reviews were not so great.

Yeah, which is pretty disappointing. I love the comics, and from the trailers, it felt like that this was going to be most like the comics of all the X-Men movies in terms of subject matter and tone. Except even if it is, it doesn't matter if it's mediocre anyway, which is what it's sounding like from the reviews. <_<

Just got back from it. It's a pretty straightforward, normal, formulaic superhero movie. I had had a long day so it was the perfect brain-switch-off shenanigans, but nothing worth getting academic about.

If you're after something with more depth than an average superhero movie, you won't find it here.

Silver Shocker

So I just saw it, and I'm happy to say I really enjoyed it. It's actually one of my favorite X-Men films ever, along with Days of Future Past. IMO it doesn't warrant the poor reviews it got.

It definitely felt the most like an X-Men movie to me. Not having Jackman as the main character meant it felt like more of a team ensemble. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this cast.
Bullet points:

-The music store scene, sadly, was cut from the final film.
-Apocalypse no longer calls himself by the name of the Christian god in the final film. They changed the line a bit.
-Sophie Turner was actually really good as Jean Grey. She was seriously one of the best parts of the movie. Her and Scott had a great relationship.
-Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Storm were all great. I actually quite liked Apocalypse.
-Jubilee was good for the limited screentime she was in. She had a lot more material (including using her powers) in the mall sequence which got cut, but they've said it'll be on the DVD/Bluray. And she actually talks in this movie!
-Fassbender as Magneto was fantastic as usual.
-Quicksilver was once again great. He had more of a character this time around. His big setpiece, as in the previous movie, was a hoot and made him OP, but they managed to scale him back later on so it worked out fine.

Spoiler

-Magneto gets the F bomb this time around instead of Wolverine. I lol'd at this line way louder than I should have.
-Caliban is in the movie for two scenes. It's actually a cool take on him too.
-The only remnant of the mall sequence was one of the highlights of the movie IMO. Scott, Jean, Jubilee and Kurt are leaving the movie theater, having seen Return of the Jedi, and this exchange occurs.
"The second one was the best. It had depth and that dark ending." "Yeah, but without the first one there wouldn't be a series at all." "One thing's for sure, the third one is the worst"  :D
Jubilee gets points for picking Empire.

Just guessing here, but I think we could get an X-Factor movie somewhere along the line.

I liked Quicksilver. That's about all. Not sure how this turned out so terribly when the previous two were phenomenal. Sad times indeed.

HarryTrotter

Could be that negative reviews were due to people getting a bit tired of superhero films. That,or Marvel Studios paid the critics.Or something.

Quicksilver's arrival to the school was my favourite part by a long way. It was kind of uncharacteristic of the rest of the movie, but the whole cinema was roaring with laughter the whole way through that bit.

I didn't dislike the movie, not by a long way. But I didn't particularly like it either.

I've definately thought that superhero fatigue played a big part in it. I'm not ready to drink the conspiracy theory Kool-Aid and say that Marvel paid off the critics, particularly since Deadpool and DOFP got good reviews.

Most of the bad press that XM:A is getting comes from the horrible press previews that were released of Apocalypse and then 3 hero films being released back to back to back months apart this summer with BvsS starting the bad press of Superhero Burnout. Didn't help Civil War but it dipped the numbers lower then they foresaw. Then so many folks were waiting for XM:A to be the epic bomb from the start because of the snowballing bad press of Apocalypse's look plus all of the reoccurring themes since the cast is most of the first trilogy's team but all new actors.

Civil War and BvS didnt help. And while I liked the movie,it wasnt exactly reinventing anything.
Well, there are still 2-3 upcoming X-men related movies. At least. So there is plenty of time to iron out some things and give everyone enough screentime. At least I hope so.

I don't agree.  I'd say most of the poor reviews are coming from it just not being that good of a movie.  It's not terrible--it's no Batman v. Superman--but it's pretty mediocre.  You don't need superhero fatigue to think that a lot of this movie doesn't add up into a solid whole.

The XM:A 's problems come from HOW they handled Apocalypse THAT's what I meant.. plus when you have Civil War set a fairly high bar ANY hero film that follows behind must be reaching that same level or expectations will drop like a rock. That's what we got. Folks were expecting Civil War AND Days Of Future Past levels and we got something that's just really setting up the next trilogy and the post-Deadpool films.

To be fair,DoFP adapted one of the  most famous storylines in X-men history, hard to top that.
