I'm looking forward to this. I love the Judge Dredd character. I enjoyed the Stallone movie but couldn't get past just seeing Stallone, and not the character Dredd. I think Urban will do a decent job, he looks good under the helmet.

Looks like it has a lot of potential. I'll more than likely go see it.

Yeah, I've been seeing the trailers of this, and I am definitely interested.

Anyone seen this yet? Is it worth the watch?

I'm not the biggest Dredd fan (he would show up a lot in comic magazines I read) but the movie looks pretty awesome, so I will get around to it.

I'm curious too, anyone seen this yet?

I am by no means an expert on Dredd, but I saw it tonight and enjoyed it. Its not great, and it has the feel sometimes of a big budget Straight to Video movie, but as a brainless matinee, I've seen worse stuff.

The Good:

  • I Loved  Karl Urban as Dredd.
  • The look and feel of the costumes and design were really solid (Even if Mega City 1 felt a little too grounded in the current).
  • The whole thing felt like a B-Grade old school 80's film. Like the old Cannon/Golan Globus action movies.
  • While a lot of CGI, they dont shy away from the violence or the body count.

The Not as good:
  • The plot felt just a bit too much like The Raid (whose non CGI Martial Arts energy trumped Dredd's bland gunplay)
  • The pacing felt a little off and slow, lots of action, but aside form a few scenes, the action felt sorta flat.
  • Related to the plot, the "trapped in a building" thing made the film feel smaller than i think it needed to. Especially when the short bookends that take place outside, feel grand and big and open. I wanted to see Dredd in a less confined worldspace then basically apartment hallways.
  • It played it more of a straight action movie losing a bit of the facism satire of the comic, and while I didn't want the sillyness of the Stallone version, I think a little more "wink wink" could have helped.
