Anyone playing it? I was thinking about picking it up but it doesn't look impressive to me. I know that the Diablo series is not about graphics, but geez does it look dated. Looks more like a game that came out ten years ago. Then there is the whole battle.net requirement, that I really hate. I think I will pass on this one.

I played Diablo II very briefly many many many years ago....so I'm clearly not a huge fan of the series. I'll be looking to pick up Max Payne 3 instead.
Clothes make the man and colourful tights make the Super-Hero.

I stopped considering it when they went with the Always On/Have to be internet connected all the time requirement.

I'm actually getting almost as much enjoyment seeing the online fights between the two gamer camps:
The "DRM is a bad thing, and I kept getting kicked out of my game" camp vs. the "Stop whining grandpa, everything requires internet" camp.

Since even Diablo II required online characters to stay online (you couldn't play your battle.net offline) character without being connected to the servers twelve years ago, having to be online for the sequel doesn't bother me at all.

I was a big fan of Diablo II, so here's hoping the sequel lives up to the previous ones.

That's the thing.
I could still play Diablo II offline in single player mode if I wanted to (as I don't do multiplayer gaming).

As i type this, They are patching some big bugs that crept up that were game breakers, and have taken several North American servers down while they patch them. That means no-one on those servers can play the game at all right now (single player or otherwise).

THAT is my issue with the design decision.

I totally understand what you're talking about Goggles, but I bought it anyway. It's freaking amazing.

get torchlight 2 instead!

Indeed, torchlight 2 has multiplayer, no intrusive DRM, and more customizable characters, plus steampunk.  Who doesn't love steampunk?

Also it is made by some of the same people who made the earlier Diablos and costs 1/3 as much.
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

A co-worker of mine is a HUGE Diablo fan and has been waiting for this game for 10 years. He marked 05/15 on his calendar and took Wed, Thur & Fri off so he could do nothing but play.  I talked to him yesterday and he said that yesterday morning was the first time he'd slept. He absolutely loves it.  His wife joked on FB that she needed to join a "Wives of D3 players" support group.

If you're interested in a multiplayer action RPG, it's awesome.  If you're not interested in multiplayer, it's pretty good.  If you're looking for a deep, story-driven experience, play a different game.

I've heard Diablo III is disappointing to say the least.

And it's not just the servers. The gameplay has been dumbed down a lot. All you have to do is click. And in D2 classes had about 3 builds, in D3 it's just one. I don't really see the point of the game.

Did you play any of the previous Diablo games?  Assuming yes, can I ask what you did in them besides click?  Clicking has always been the primary, maybe the sole, interactive component of Diablo games.  Diablo 3 is actually more complicated, because, in addition to left and right clicks, you have to use the keyboard for more than drinking potions.

Diablo 3 has numerous builds, you just don't have to commit to one permanently with a character.  Each class has access to all their skills, but not at once.  A class build emphasizing one type of gameplay may be less effective at another type, and you can switch out as you please.

The point of a game is to be an entertaining diversion or use of free time.

I picked up D3 when prompted by a friend as something to cover the time till GW2 comes out, and I've been totally addicted.
And as I got the game to play with other people, requiring the internet all the time doesn't bother me.
the game-play on -normal- is a little repetitive granted, but that's why there's nightmare, hell and inferno.
I'm presuming by "all you have to do is click" is your interpreting it as "click bad guy, move on", which might get you through normal mode, but beyond that.... enjoying faceplanting.

And the "one build" is pretty funny, each class has 6 power slots, with 22 powers you can use into those 6 slots, each power has 5 runes that alter how they work (that's 6 variants total if you include the unmodified power) so effectively 144 options to fill your 6 slots, not forgetting 16 passive skills you can put into your 3 passive slots.
I'm not gonna do the exact math, but i'm pretty sure that adds up to at least 3 builds there ;)

Yep, Diablo 3 is fantastic, enjoyed it more than the other two. One of my favorites for sure.
