Really hard to find help on the PS3 and some complaints about the game

First of all, its really tough to get help on the PS3. I am in a guild but nobody seems interested in helping. I find myself standing around most of the time practically begging for help to get passed a mission. Its basically a roll of the dice if I get any help in a play session.

It seems to me that this game is more about gear than superpowers. My character is based on Marvel's Hyperion and DC's Black Adam. I am at level 28 and have all of the iconic powers of Superman, Captain Marvel and Wonderwoman. I should be pretty tough right? Nope. I still take massive damage from foes and when my gear is broken, I am like Superman on Kryptonite. I get slaughtered in record time. So because of this, I find that I need help most of the time for missions that have level requirements that is equal or several levels down from mine. I don't feel like a superhero/villain with powers. I feel more like a Ironman type character whose powers depend on my gear. What is your guy's take on this?

Well we have an active and helpful guild on PC side, if u were there u wouldnt have this prob mate. As for gear, yes it is important but only for endgame content.
Its good to have good gear for leveling of course, but in this game skill is what makes a player, learning to block, roll, use the right combo at a right time etc. Keep practicing those things, and you'll be fine. As for iconic powers, they are a gimmick quite honestly, and some of them can be useful (bubble shield) while most (like Captain Marvel's lightning) are not. This game is not RP friendly when it comes to powers so u have to take certain powers to be eficient.

I actually find Marvel's Shazam lighting to be very useful. When I am surrounded or about to be, I summon the lightning and it either kills or takes off a nice chunk of health from a large mob that I am fighting. Then I use the whirlwind attack, were you fly around in a circle doing damage to all. This is usually how I deal with large groups of enemies and it seems to work decent enough. I just hate the fact that the gear is what really matters, when if should be about the powers. Heat vision is also a power I use all of the time. I do have to admit, I almost never block or roll. I just spam my skill attacks and hope for the best. I also try to utilize environment weapons (cars, crates) as much as possible too.

This is your problem. Once you learn to block or roll from big attacks and time your combos, you'll be fine. This is a very action oriented MMO, so fast moving and combos are a must. Hope i helped.

I'm at level 29 now. My character is almost maxed out and I still don't know the basics of playing this game. I'm fairly certain that most, if not all of my gear is junk. I know I have some pieces on me that are from lvl 15 still. I was playing with a lvl 18 player last night against the Queen Bee and he/she was doing much better than me, as far as not getting knocked out and delivering the damage, so I obviously am not playing my toon right. I probably should do some reading on the game boards or something.

Dont worry, in this game 1-30 is pretty much a tutorial for what comes next. Real leveling comes after that with skill points, combat rating etc. In other words plenty of time to improve, just take your time, practice and have fun in the procces.

Mystik

yea I doubt ur close to maxxed out
how many skill points do u have? not power points

I checked my level 29 guy and it says 0/19 for skills. I just did some research on how the skills work. I had no idea they were earned from achieving feats among other things. I thought they were earned by reaching a new level. This new info along with my crappy gear and power setup, it's starting to make sense why my level 29 guys seems so blasted weak. I need to respec him immediately. I hardly touched any of my fire powers at all, instead dumping all points into iconic powers and using my fists.

Wait until you hit 30 before respeccing so you have all your powers.

With fire, one thing to think on is do you want to be a fire tank or a fire dps?  Yes, you can swap between roles but the best team members focus on one or the other with the powers they pick, what they put their skill points into and the armor mods they use as well as influencing your main weapon choice.

I'm focused on tanking, so I've put my skill points into Restoration, Dominance and Health (in that order).  Why?  Well, I'm glad you asked :)

Fire Tanks heal themselves with their powers.  We can't do it as efficiently as healers (power consumption-wise), but it's pretty sweet.  Restoration increases the amount if healing you do (it even effects the regen from health barrels), so you want to focus on that with your Mods as well as focusing on the +Healing skills when you get Skill points.

When a Fire tank fires off a power, two things happen:
1.  It has what's called "snap aggro", this means you are immediately put at the top of the mob's hate list.  The only reasons a Fire Tank should lose aggro are because of the way the mob handles aggro (quite a few raid bosses will just randomly pick a player to go after, I'm looking at you Avatar of Magic :banghead: ) or if someone is doing insane Carthage or Deathloli level DPS.  Even with the latter, firing off a power every 4-5 seconds (Power pool and cooldowns permitting) should grab that aggro right back to you.

2.  Fire Tanks get an increase to their Hit Points for every point of Dominance (2.2 health * points of Dominance).  This boost starts the moment you fire off a power and lasts for 12 seconds.  The timer is refreshed each time you fire off a power.  So if I have 3000hps and 600 Dom in Tank mode, when I fire off a power I then have an extra 1,320 hps!

As for Health... well I think that one's self-explanatory ;)

Weapons:  If you are going to focus on Tanking, you want a melee weapon.  Not only is it practical since your job is to be in the meanie's face, but most (if not all) melee weapon styles have innate bonuses to Defense.  Another tidbit about weapons:  learn your combos!  Certain combos do more damage, certain ones do AE damage, etc.  Learn them, know them, love them, live them.

Mods:  Even if you haven't spent a dime in the Marketplace, take some time to get whatever mods and make sure to slot them with the appropriate color mod.  The bonuses these give are far too important to ignore because they make a MASSIVE difference.  Example:  in my DPS gear I am mostly Mark II mods and it's raised my Precision well over 100 points.  Mods will also raise your Combat Rating (thus getting you into higher level areas and giving you access to higher level gear).

Skill Points:  As stated before, get all the +Healing skills asap then the Dom.  Spend only the points in Movement that you need to unlock your faster travel.  Once you get to 100 Skill points, you should have all of your +Healing, +Dominance and +Health skills done in all the weapon trees.  From there feel free to put them into whatever tickles your fancy (Vit is a good choice as it increases your Power regen, or you can go to +Crit Damage so you can be a pretty decent DPS if needed).

However:
If you decide to go the DPS route, I would advise focusing on Precision then Might.  Why?  Because melee damage is based on Precision while damage from Powers is based on Might.  Since you can only cast your Powers as long as you have power left in your power pool, you will eventually limit yourself.  Going with a melee focus to DPS means that you can focus most of the Powers on your DPS loadout toward healing (you definitely want the Fiery Weapon power though).  With most of our powers being Self-only or AE, going with a Might-based Fire DPS character is going to be tough unless you have pocket-controller following you around to keep your power regen'd ;)

Hope this helps!
