The Prisoner

This maybe old news to some, but I was strolling around the movie section of my local Hastings and noticed The Prisoner with Ian McKellan in the used movie section.  Reading on the back, it is based upon the old British TV series of the same name which I used to like.  Has anyone seen this one?  If so, do you recommend it?

I got through one episode (barely) and never returned to it... I liked the idea of remaking it especially with the climate of todays world, but I just found it tedious and impossible to get into. It may have gotten better, but I just couldn't do it. It just didn't have any of the charm or cleverness of the original, it just seemed overly dour and serious.
