Cyber Burn

I've been out of the game for a while, so I don't know all the newer cards, but just out of curiosity, what kinds of decks are the current meta?

I used to play when it was about Ancient Egypt and Pharoh.  I lost interest when they kiddfied it and made it about the duel academy, sorry.

I was hesitant at first with the GX series, but it got better as it progressed. The 5D's series just left me hanging, and this new Zexel is just not working for me yet.

As for the TCG, I've got my daughter (10) playing, so I was just curious as to what kinds of decks are being run in the tournaments. We've been talking about entering one so she can see what it's like.

Outcast

I still play it sometimes, but only thru my DS.  Not really updated on the new cards/rules either, but I think it's great that you got your daughter to appreciate the game (quite rare if you ask me). Might be a good experience for her to play in the tournaments, at least she gets to meet new people who share the same interest.

Since I'm not familiar with how the actual tournaments go, i hope they would have some beginner level/group/category for your daughter to join in. If she had to play the expert players, she could become discouraged. Anyway, the important thing would be to have fun there. If you guys did decide to join. I wish you the best of luck. ;)

What's the theme of her favorite deck? Just curious. :)

Cyber Burn

She runs a Harpy/Wind themed deck. And since I'm still using older cards, more often than not, she creams me. She uses "Harpies Hunting Ground" to clear my spells and traps, and "Armed Dragon LV5" with "Roc from the Valley of the Haze" to clear my monsters, and then hits me with direct attacks.

We've talked about the tournaments, but the local ones are beginner/expert combined, there's no doubt that if we went, we'd both get creamed.

Outcast

I see. I am familiar with the Harpie theme deck and the Armed Dragon. Never thought of combining those two. That's quite a combination she's got there. Roc from Valley of the Haze seems to compliment that deck nicely too. But I'm sure you can think of something to counter her deck. At least eventually. I hope. For your sake. :P

As for the tournament, well you never know until you try right? Who knows you guys might still be able to beat a few before getting creamed. Anyways, there's still quite a number of Yugioh forums on the net you can check on for the rules and which cards are limited/unlimited and so on.

Oh and let me know when you've finally beaten your daughter's Harpie deck. Good luck.  ;)

Cyber Burn

She's afraid to attack when there's anything face down, making most traps useless, but I finally got her by removing everything from play. As for tournaments, maybe when she's a bit older and can handle loss better.

Outcast

Ah, the old remove from play strategy. It neutralizes a lot of effect cards that depend on graveyards, like that armed dragon of hers. And if you don't rely too much on trap cards, you have one less thing to worry about from her harpies. A brilliant counter strategy Cyber. :)

You're probably right about the tournament though. Kids her age are used to getting what they want. And losing certainly isn't one of them..... So stop winning and go back to letting her win already. :P

Cyber Burn

Outcast, just out of curiosity, which DS game are you playing? I'm still playing the 2009 WC version.

Outcast

Well, if you're still playing the 2009 WC version, i'm kinda embarrassed to say what i'm still playing.
Although i have the 2008 and 2009 WC version, i still prefer playing the 2007 WC version. Coz I still have this unrealistic goal to complete all the challenges there with an "S" rating on my own. I don't know if i can accomplish that in this lifetime (since i don't play it that often, and i'm not that good) but i like the challenge. :P

Cyber Burn

I never got a chance to play '07 or '08, but was bummed that '09 was missing so many older cards. I'm trying to talk my wife into getting me and my daughter whatever the current game is so that we can play against each other.

Outcast

I haven't really checked out any of the newer Yugioh games after WC 2009. But they still look interesting to try. Good luck in trying to convince your wife to get you the current game. You could say that it's a great way for you to bond with your daughter or something. :P (Doubt she'll buy that though) :)

The bonding aspect is the only reason that my wife let's her play to begin with. She has always been against me letting my daughter have anything to do with Yugioh, but seeing us bond over it has helped change her mind.

Well, glad to hear that Cyber. All is not lost then. Especially since Christmas is just a few days away. Maybe your wife will be in a more....giving mood by then. Ho ho ho. :santa:  :)

Well, if you haven't found it yet...here's a link on how to get it Cyber. http://www.gamefaqs.com/ds/955057-yu-gi-oh-5ds-stardust-accelerator-world/answers?qid=71529
I haven't actually tried it yet. So i'm not sure if it works or not. :)

Cyber Burn

Thanks Outcast, I'll give that a try tonight.

Me! I was really into the game till like 2009 then lost track. The last Yu-Gi-Oh! I've played was on the DS (5Ds Stardust Accelerator), and it's probably the best of them all, and includes many of the latest cards.

EDIT: Oops, sorry for necrobumping

I have a Yahoo group now, click here!

Just out of curiosity, do you have a deck for the DS that can beat Dark Armed Dragon in WC Mode?

Cyber Burn

Bump! Does anyone have a deck that can beat the Light and Dark Dragon (I think that is what it's called) for the DS World Championship 2009 Stardust Accelerator?
