Beware the "Beware the Batman"

Well, two more episodes have gone by, and I'm really not impressed. I don't mind the lesser known Bat-Villains, but it would be disappointing to not see the Joker at least once.

Visually, I'm thinking the show is a bit on the dark side, not "grim and gritty" dark, just hard to see dark. That's a bit of a turn-off for me.

I'm still at a crossroads with this show, maybe I'll give it one or two more episodes before I decide if I am going to continue to watch it or not.

Glitch Girl

The Magpie episode had some good moments, but I think it worked too hard for the twist, and to be honest, watching Magpie bothered me.  Way too sexualized IMO.

The first Anarchy episode was a bit of a letdown after hearing he's going to be a recurring baddie.  Anarchy was actually pretty dull and didn't really feel like a match for Batman.  While the idea of the two punks as self-styled "artists" was kinda fun at first, it quickly became tiresome. At least it laid some groundwork for Katana's backstory.

Baraba Gordon has been introduced at least, so I'm looking forward to what they do with her.

After watching all the aired episodes I have to say it feels rather "meh" as a whole. Not bad, but it didn't wow me either.

The empty city for some reason bothers me more than in other CGI shows. Pyg and Toad were ok, I mean I knew there was no way they would act like their comic versions in a cartoon. Magpie episode felt way too dragged out, but Anarky episode was pretty bad. He didn't act like Anarky and he looked like Moon Knight, bleh. I mean I'm all for different interpretations, but they might as well called him differently, he is waaaaay too different from his comic book version.

I'm glad I wasn't the only person who felt that Anarchy looked too much like Moon Knight.

Personally, I find the writing extremely bland and it seems to be aimed at a younger audience.

Also, I don't like villains. Magpie, Lunkhead, Junkyard Dog and Doodle Bug are all very minor villains in the comic (the shows writers must have loved the Arkham Asylum: Hell On Earth mini-series). I think Mr Toad only appeared in a single issue of Batman & Robin. I appreciate using more obscure characters but even as a comic fan, I couldn't care less about these guys.

Professor Pyg and Anarky are rubbish compared to their comic counterparts, and they were created by two of the best writers on Batman, Alan Grant and Grant Morrison. Anarky in particular is disappointing, since there was so much material to draw from. What a weak arch-nemesis.

Basically, I'm fine with the animation and voice acting, but the script and direction aren't doing it for me. Im not the target market. I'll probably drop this show in a few episodes.

Glitch Girl

Well, looks like this show's days are numbered.  I understand it's being pulled from the schedule this weekend.

Oddly enough, I'm not sorry to see it go.  For me, the writing never really gelled, the characters were kinda flat, there were no standout villains, the animation was sub-par, and the late-introduced ongoing subplot really didn't grab me.  All in all, even though you can tell they tried, it was a letdown.

Pity.

I actually started enjoying it myself, so I will be disappointed to see it go.  Seems like every show I start getting into gets pulled.
My son will be especially upset.
Do you know if they will air the last episode listed in the guide, "Fall?"

Ehh, I never saw more than a few minutes of it, and that was far from impressive.  Maybe they'll give Bruce Timm another crack at TV.

This show only just starting airing here in Canada. First two episodes with alright, with some promise. So I'm not particularly disappointed if it's gone, but it's too bad it might not get a chance to hit it's stride.

Apparently, it is only on hiatus.
From the World's Finest website, the show will return from hiatus in January 2014.  Apparently the ratings have been average but consistent.

While I have been watching it, mainly because there aren't a lot of Superhero cartoons on right now, if it does end up getting cancelled, I won't be all that upset.

Dagummit, Cartoon Network...

What's yo problem with letting a show finish out its run before (semi) cancelling it or else relegating it to an obscure time-slot?

Glitch Girl

Speaking of obscure time-slots...

After many months, the show is going to get to play out its run at 3:00 am Sundays in Toonami.  Run begins soon, starting with previously aired episodes, with new episodes scheduled for July.

Yeah, the indignity is shocking.  I don't ever remember a cable TV show "premiering" well after midnight.  Cartoon Network hates fans of action-driven cartoons.

Although I read a comment today that, logically speaking, 3am would be the appropriate time to "beware the Batman" if you are thinking about going out and committing crime. Who fears Batman on Saturday mornings?

Haha, yeah, I suppose daring daylight robberies are really a bit less daring in Gotham by comparison, huh?

It's a shame, this series won't have a second season. The last half of season one really picked up. Hopefully with the changes at CN, we get more DC properties that last more than 2 seasons. Maybe they'll bring back Young Justice?

JeyNyce

Just finish watching the series and while it started out slow, it ended pretty good.  I actually enjoy the second half of the season.  It looks like if they would have continue with a second season it would have been Batman and the Outsiders

That would be nice. Considering how much "DC Nation" got hyped, it's been really disappointing that anything worth watching has been cancelled so quickly.

BentonGrey

I'd certainly watch YJ if they brought it back.  Since they finished their big, ominous story arc, maybe they'd have some fun with their setting.
