Hey folks...I don't know if this was discussed in a previous thread but it just entered my mind while organizing & backing up my image folder. I saw this again and it made me pause for a second....

Ken Lashley's Ultimate Batman design...

Spoiler
Gary Franks Batman Year One

Spoiler
Dave Finch's Batman "Reborn"

As done by Yannick Paquette
Very similar right? Not making an accusation here...I just find it interesting how both Frank's and Finch's designs seem to have very similar elements to Lashleys. :) I guess Bats went Ultimate afterall. :P
I can't help it that I look so good baby! I'm just a love machine!

I can see what you mean, but honestly, they're all pretty much the typical batman costume with the underwear removed. I'm sure we all would come up with a very similar design to modernize Batman's costume without deviating too far from the original.

I think it is as said... if you want to modernize batman that is one direction to move into. And once you get the idea out there (especially calling it ultimate) it is hard to not be influenced by a good design.

Kenn

I do find it odd that all of them went with a raised bat logo with visible metallic edges.   That isn't an "obvious" enough of a "modernisation" that I can accept that everyone involved chose to do it independently.

The "lots of visible seams" thing, yeah.  That seems to be the modernisation technique of choice this decade.  And since there are only so many ways to make the trunks on the outside unnecessary without just ignoring the existence of the batpole its not surprising that that part seems similar in the designs.

Hasnt he always had pouches?

Nope.

Spoiler

Here he is sporting his older and far more advanced utility belt than anything he's worn in the last 20 years. Give or take.
Clothes make the man and colourful tights make the Super-Hero.

deano_ue

so he has tubes instead of pouches?

Mystik

how does he fit anything in those tubes. batcuffs ,batarangs ,Firstaidkit Grapple gun etc

daglob

He had no grapple gun before the first Tim Burton movie. The other stuff goes in special compartments on the inside. I've actually often thought that the spaces between the tubes were for stuff too big to fit in them. I know I've seen more than one diagram of the stuff in the belt; the tubes are fine for gas pellets, folding microscopes, laser torches, and bat-swingline on a spring loaded reel.

I'm personally glad to see him upgrade from what is essentially this:

To pouches. Sure, people consider pouches as a symbol of the 90's but for Batman of all people it makes sense.

steamteck

The pouches are fine as long as they don't look clunky. Which they do far too often. I still don't like the raised symbol but then again I don't even like the yellow oval.

Actually, I consider pouches a symbol of the '60s.  :D
