Mr. Hamrick

I'm hopeful.  I'm a fan of the British series and hope the US version stays true to the spirit of the UK show.

So far I'm loving this show but I have a question. Why does sunlight have no effect on the vampires?

Goes back to the Brahm Stoker's Dracula novel.  Dracula was able to be out in daylight but was severely weakened.

In the British series, Mitchell could be in the daylight but generally had to wear sunglasses in direct sunlight.  The American version doesn't seem to be doing that with Aidan.

I'm cringing at so much of the American version.  I'm going to try to give it a couple more episodes but I am not impressed so far and I like the British show.

I think it's the stuff they are redoing plot-wise from the British show and now elements are not translating as well. Plus, the actor who plays Aidan kinda annoys me.

 I have a possibly dumb question: since the original show is british, they speak english? And, it's like, two years old?
So why did they need to do a US remake? Why didn't they just bough and broadcast the british show?
I heard they're also doing a remake of Skins. Same question, why don't they just buy and broadcast the british show?
I'm mean they know it's already good and doesn't need change, and buying the right + reproducing seems a lot of effort just to get a pale copy.

This is the reason I started watching the show. I like Sam Witwer, yeah he's not the greatest actor in the world but he IS the secret apprentice. :P

I also think it helps that I never watched the British series or I might be in the same boat as you.

It's a nice change from typical movie/television vampire fare...As Mr Hamrick said, Bram Stoker didn't make vampires in deadly danger from the sun (movie-makers did...Starting with Nosferatu in the 20s, I believe)...Stoker's vampires were only weak during daylight hours.

According to most stories and legends pre-film (and even pre-Stoker's Dracula), Vampires aren't/weren't harmed by the sun at all.  While many would keel over at the crow of the rooster as the sun rose in the morning (and they wouldn't be able to be active again until noon or dusk), some vampires could be active during daytime (sometimes all day)....It all depended on the legends of the area you looked at.  Each region/country had different notions of what a vampire was.

Essentially money I'd guess. The British Being Human aired here in Canada so I imagine it did air in the US as well. However the British TV model tends to be different than the US and airs considerably less episodes a year. Being Human UK has aired 15 episodes over 3 seasons, while Being Human US has 16 planned for season 1. More episodes in theory will equal more money.

I can't understand a word those limeys are saying! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to watch my favorite traditional sit-com, The American Office: Less Funny, More Money.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

I've tried to watch it, I really have, but nothing at all interesting appears to happen.  "Woa is me, I am a monster!" starts grating on me very, very quickly, and there's not much else in terms of an interesting plot here.

I'm out.
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

I had to bring this old thread up.  The UK and the US version of Being Human are on Netflix.  I've seen the first 4 episodes of the UK version and I am hooked.  I'm starting to like the UK shows better than the US.  Torchwood, The IT Crowd, Being Human, Jekyll, all great shows.

Yep, the American version of Being Human is crap compared to the original. I stopped watching it awhile ago. I actually liked it until I watched all the seasons of the original on Netflix. The original was fantastic, far superior to the American version.
