QuoteThe Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra.  With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air.  Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern "Avatar" world, Republic City – a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology.  It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive.  However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart.   Under the tutelage of Aang's son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

Can't wait for the new spinoff.  :thumbup:

Yay!  :thumbup:

Though I'm disappointed that takes place so long after the original series. All the original characters will be dead or over 80. Still very excited.

This will be fun. Although Ill miss Aang and the gang as well. Maybe we'll get cameos or the main villain will be the old evil Azula or something.
PROTIP: If you?re going to build a robot that can think for itself and then make it do menial labor, don?t make it twice your size, indestructible, and strong enough to pick you up and use your body to beat your friends to death. Alas, such is ever the folly of man.

Really looking forward to this. Avatar the Last Airbender was an excellent show.

She's the avatar, deal with it!

I'm the Avatar!  You'll have to deal with it! - Best line ever!  If this is how the show starts, then I'm looking forward to it.

I am watching it now.  I regretably have not seen the first series, but fortunately watching that is not required.  Like it so far.

April 14 is when the season starts.

So far I'm loving it.  I like how they handle the relationship with the old series and the new one.  One thing that stick out most with the new series is the music.  It really adds to the whole concept of the show.  I also like the master/ rebel student relationship as well; reminds me a bit of Batman beyond.  Anyway this is a must see show!

Giving this a bump: it appears we're about to enter a break in new episodes.  What do y'all think of it so far?

I really like it so far.  I think Korra is a wonderful character, a very nice counterpoint to Aang personality-wise and the story is moving along nicely.  Her supporting cast is very good (I am rather fond of the Fire-ferrets).  Animation is still gorgeous as ever.

Spoiler

Through the two sets of flashbacks, they've hinted that the leader of the anti-bending movement was involved in a troubling incident that involved adult Toph, Sokka, and Aang.  One theory I've heard is that this is involves of Aang's sons, but I'm really hoping not. I didn't recognize the bearded guy in the last set, the one during the pro-bending final, but I didn't have a chance to pause or review the scene... does he look familiar to anyone?

Hope they don't take too long on new episodes.

(BTW: Sorry so quiet lately - I think I hit one of my "digital hermit" phases again)

I'm really enjoying it as well.
I'm particularly impressed with the anti-bender movement and Amon. Their threat seems positively frightening to me, which rare in shows.

Indeed. I adore the show, and the fight scenes are pretty impressive for a show 4-5 episodes in. I didn't think we'd be getting scenes like last episode ths early, but then again, I didn't think they'd touch on a triangle/square so early either.

Well you have to remember it was originally envisioned as a mini series, 12 episodes I think. So things will probably move faster than you might expect normally.

Final episodes aired this weekend.

Spoiler
I confess, I did not predict Amon's background,  that he was the bloodbender's son and brother to Tarrlok, but I was pleased with it.  It made sense and it added a whole other layer to both Amon and Tarrlok.  The Avatar series has addressed the affects of bad parenting and abuse before (see: Azula and to some degree Zuko) but this time it seemed a little more brutal to me.  Tarrlok blowing them both up at the end was a definite shock.  Actually, that entire final episode was more brutal than usual - Amon's attack on his second after he witnesses the blood bending implies he killed the man, and heck, bloodbending in general.

Moving on: I would have liked to see a little more of General Iro.  While I did like the idea of using Zuko's voice actor for his own grandson, the voice felt a little too young for the character design.

Tenzin's brother Bulmi (sp?) - we only see him for about two seconds, but it's obvious that he takes after his namesake.  :)

more later maybe, out of time to type, but wanted to give this a bump.

The show was great and thought it's not official, there are talks about a second season.

I'm surprise there wasn't much talk about it here on the forums.

Can we address how Bud Bundy is voice acting on this show as a ladies man when on the show where he broke out into the public mainstream (and even his internet show) he was a loser? See, kids, things can change!

According to the wikipedia entry, the second season's already been greenlit.

Actually, I just checked and found an interview with the creators who says that it's not only greenlit, but they've finished the writing and are now working on storyboarding it.  So season 2 is a definite.

There is also a 3 series book out call Avatar: The Promise which takes place after the first series.  Read a preview of it and it's pretty good.

They'd be stupid not to do a second series!
I really love this show and I thought the bending was so cool how there seems to be a "second mutation" for each of the elements...but none for air yet, since most of the air benders were killed off.
Earth->Metal Bending
Fire->Electricity Bending
Water-> Healing/Blood Bending
So I'm thinking...
Air-> some kind of long range communication bending.... Like throwing your voice or telepathy.

I was thinking maybe Air would have a limited weather bending or something similar.

Energy Bending already exists, but it's a 5th type.  It was the original type of bending, but was abandoned because it was very dangerous.  Ang learned it at the end of the original series.  It's what he uses to take away people's bending.  It's also what
Spoiler

he used to restore Korra's bending and what she in turn uses to restore Lin's

Currently, only the Avatar can use it.

Chi bending also exists.  It's what Healing basically is.

Also, you missed plantbending, a type of waterbending
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

detourne_me

what about a sue storm barrier-type thing for an expansion of airbending? Tenzin and Korra already do it when they make an air bubble in the water or to protect from gas.
Maybe they could make air pockets strong enough to be force fields?

catwhowalksbyhimself

But that's not really a form of bending.  It's just same ole airbending.

Airbenders can do Cloudbending, but they share that with Waterbenders.  In fact, it normal takes one of each working together, but it seems very powerful air and water benders can cloudbend solo

Pardon the double post, but some news here.

Apparently what recently aired was actually Season 1 Book 1.  Season 1 Book 2 will air next year and will be called "Spirit."  Season 2 Books 3 and 4 have just been announced as well.
