Hey all!
So. I'm VERY excited; in August I'm moving into my new apartment which is actually near a comic shop meaning I'll actually be able to buy and read comics on a regular basis again. (other than TPBs, heh) YAY. :D
However, I realize I am now VERY out of the loop as to what titles are out there at the moment; it's been a good 4 or 5 years since I was able to regularly buy comics..
So I wanted to ask you, my lovely fellow Forumites, what do you recommend as your 'must-read' books?
Here's some more specific info and questions on where I stand:
-I've heard that the current Green Lantern book is quite good, so I intend to pick that one up; I'm a big Green Lantern nut.
-Also a big fan of the whole Flash family, psyched that The Flash is supposed to be a good title currently. (also, the rumors that Bart Allen might get his own series makes me go SQUEE)
-How's Titans/Teen Titans these days? That used to be my favorite title..
-What are the basic books to keep on top of DC universe chronology and events? Any JLA or JSA titles worth reading right now?
-Any decent X-Men, Iron Man or Spider-Man books currently on the shelves?
-Is Hellboy: BPRD any good?

Well.. any info you guys can give me would be sahhh-weet. Thanks a million. ^_^

Congrats on the move, buddy!

I'll try to answer as many of these as I can.

-Teen Titans is a mess. I'd avoid it for the moment.

-The X-men... really depends on what you like. Want some old school nostalgia? New Mutants by Zeb Wells WOULD be the best bet for you, except they're tied up in an event and lost their way. X-force by Yost and Kyle is good if you're OK with the violence and blood. X-factor is still pretty consistent if you like C and D list characters written as uber witty by Peter David. X-men Legacy is the strongest book of the main X-line continuity, plot, and character wise, but it caters to Rogue and the "new" X-kids. X-factor Forever is around if you loved Louis Simmonson's run from the 80s. Basically, you have a lot of choices depending on what you're comfortable with. Now is not a good time to jump into the main line though. An event is almost over and a few books will be relaunching, so I'd wait a month or two unless you buy back issues. My personal favorite X-related book is Wolverine: Weapon X by Jason Aaron, however.

-Invincible Ironman is pretty much the only Iron book on the shelves. Tis good, and it uses more of the movie personality. It was designed for newer readers, basically.

-Spider-man... that depends. Current SPidey (BND) is a mixed bag and Ultimate Spider-man is nowhere near as strong as it used to be.

-I've heard many say that the Hellboy books are great reads. Many people.

- From Rebirth to up to Blackest Night the Green Lantern book is pretty darn good. Even better during that time was the Green Lantern Corps title. I have mixed feelings on this Brightest Day thing going at the moment.

- As for X-Men, I like X-Factor and X-Force the most. X-Force has pretty much ended though. Like Prev said, ones extra violent and the other is extra witty.

- Teen Titans has been terrible for a while now.

- I don't read Spider-Man but Matt Fraction's current run on Iron Man is excellent.

These are must read books IMO:

Captain America
Invincible

Hellboy & BPRD are great reads, but don't try to jump in at the current issues - buy the trades, or get caught up with back issues first.

Invincible Iron Man is solid; wait until the current event is over before sticking any toes into the X-men waters.

The Hitman

If you like obscure continuity references, Keith Giffen's Doom Patrol is excellent. Also, there's a new ongoing bi-monthly Tick series that I highly recommend.

Not a mainstream book by any means, but I am absolutely loving Atomic Robo.  It's very humorous adventure that has had me laughing out loud in just about every mini-series.  Also, I've become a huge fan of Project Superpowers.  While their books are by no means perfect (they are telling so many different stories at once that it is often it bit rushed), they consistently provide the kind of comics that I want.  There aren't years of bad continuity behind them, the characters are heroic, and they are mostly clean (but often fairly violent).

Irredeemable and Incorruptable are quite decent too.

Thanks so much for all the advice, you guys! I'm definitely going to take all that into account! That's a shame that Teen Titans is in shambles... that used to be a really great book!  <_<
I knew I could count on the good people of Freedom Reborn to help me navigate the current wily state of the comic industry, ha. :)

I have to second Detourne_me...the Irredeemable and Incorruptable storylines are great (at least what I have read through the TPB's).  Neat concept that really doesn't shy away from what an unhinged "Superman-level" hero could do if he really popped his cork.

I would also say "The Boys" is pretty good, even if they sometimes go too far.....WAY too far.  I mean, some of the subject matter in their books would probably make Garth Ennis blush!   :)
Me like funny Pictures.  Make laugh, make laugh now!
