I saw an ad banner for an anime-style webcomic that intrigued me, so I followed it and found...

Spinnerette!

Think naive, wanna-be super-heroine with spider powers and you get the idea.  In many ways, it's kind of a parody.  It's good for quite a few chuckles and the art is not bad at all.  If you're an anime fan, you'll probably like the art even better than I do.  I recommend taking a look.

Followed it for a while, then lost interest.

So of course the big news for Weregeek is that it is now updating five times a week instead of three.  A point missed if you assumed Weregeek wasn't going to update until Wednesday and didn't follow the link GM posted.

At any rate, the plot should advance faster.  Though I won't count on it.

Over in Schlock Mercenary, Dr. Bunni is about to order Schlock to give up his beloved Plasma Cannon.

I'm pretty sure she'll survive the experience.  I think.

And we have a couple of Valentine's Day themed webcomics...

A funny yet heartfelt commentary on holiday commercialism:

http://starslip.com/2011/02/14/tis-a-season/

And, most visually disgusting Valentine's Day themed webcomic goes to Looking For Group.

Spoiler

There were more, but not with themes I'm comfortable posting.

Hmm. Glad I checked this thread out, lots of stuff I wasn't aware of.
Don't think I've seen Mitz's "Plan B" mentioned anywhere in the thread yet. Though the storyline is done, it's a great read (IMO), and especially ought to appeal members of these boards, being a webcomic about supervillains and all that...

http://www.goonpatrol.com/comic/?webcomic_post=plan_b_1_01

puts one at the beginning of the story...

Today's RatFist
http://ratfist.com/page-32/

I'm still waiting to see where this one is going, but today's page has both bad puns and a great cameo.

EDIT: The comic finished with page 150.  I can't say I can recommend it in the end.  At some point it suddenly became a sounding board for the artist's philosophy and got way too preachy for my tastes.  Ah well...

(I don't think this one has been mentioned yet but I could be wrong.)

At any rate...
Namesake
(starts here: http://www.namesakecomic.com/2010/09/02/prologue-cover-3/ )

I've been enjoying this one as of late.  The premise is that certain names have power those who have them are "namesakes".  They are extensions of their literary characters (though we're still learning what that entails).  One girl named Emma has accidentally taken on a role of the namesake Dorthy and this is already starting to cause problems.

Don't let the cute artwork fool you, there are a lot of horror elements to this story.  And a few unhappy endings.

I have just one comment about today's Dr. McNinja:

Oh, and:

It's about time!

(No pun intended.)

I can really picture Glitch, Tomato and other anime fans digging this. It is a really dynamic, creative and super well illustrated webcomic from a Mexican creator. He does a lot of fun stuff with the format, giving it an animated, cinematic feel. In other words it is not just static, he animates in different dialog balloons and action scenes within the same pannel.

Check it out, it is a nice mix of teen adventure, shinto animism, science of sleep and some action too.

I checked it out, got caught up, and I have to say I didn't like it.

I get that Frank L. Baum's "Wizard of Oz" was not exactly the sanitized kid-friendly fairy tale starring Judy Garland.  Like "Alice in Wonderland" it has its dark side.  But this whole Namesake series is just too dark, violent and gory for me to really enjoy.

Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong
http://www.nothingcanpossiblygowrong.com/comic/page-001/

This OGN is available for preorder, but you can read the whole thing online for now (this will likely change in the future).  I don't usually go for HS semi-realistic stuff, but I greatly enjoyed this.  Just when you think you know where it's going, page 111 happens.  :)
