Upgrading my lap top

General technical question here -

How can I determine if I could upgrade the CPU on my lap top?  It's actually a pretty recent computer (a year and a half old) but not quite able to hit recommended specs on some of the newer games.  All I know is that not all mother boards can accept all CPUs, but I have no idea how to figure out the compatability.  I have a HP Pavillion dv9700, if that helps anyone give a concrete answer.
