Just got back from this. Pretty awesome. I particularly loved the visual style of the alien technology. The main character was also a really interesting fellow, and seeing him transform as a character was just as cool as seeing him transform physically. Didn't like the brutish sadistic military guy, since he spent too much time threatening to kill and not enough time killing, but he died in a really awesome way.

Any more thoughts on this?

Thought I might enjoy since I love good sci-fi flicks.    But I had no idea HOW MUCH I would enjoy it.

I think its an instant sci-fi classic - and can't wait for the built-in sequel!

Silver Shocker

I've been intrigued about this film for months, and I'm hearing lots of good things. I haven't seen the film, but I really want to now.

I saw it and loved it.  The main character/actor is brilliant and the concept is fantastic.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable sequel...District 9 II: District 10.

Long live Slaanesh, Prince of Pain!!!

Bujin

I loved it as well.  Actually, I hope that they don't have a sequel - I kind of like the ending as is.

This was a fascinating film, and one of the best made movies I've ever seen.  The performances were incredible, and the special effects were amazing.  I found myself dearly wishing for a pure action movie featuring a war using those alien weapons.  Too cool.  I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the story itself, though.  Even now, several weeks after having seen it, I'm still not done digesting.  I think what troubles me is just how dispicable the main character is from time to time.  I felt like his redemption was...maybe a bit rushed?  Don't get me wrong though, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.  I will say this; the ending was beautiful, poingant, tragic, and hopeful...all at the same time.  That, is saying something.

I agree with Benton.  The world this movie presented was awesome!  It was genius to base it in South Africa.  They could have expended more on this given the history of South Africa, but it was clear that 90 minutes was not enough to cover all the robust back story.  The universe they presented was enough for an action flick.

I kinda dropped off near the ending, but that was because it seemed like they wrote into a hole.
