What were some of your guys' favorite games from last year? I have an Xbox360, so that's pretty much the only system I played games on. My favs were:

-Lost Odyssey
-GTA4
-Prince of Persia
-Rise of the Argonauts

On Xbox Live Arcade:
-Bionic Commando Rearmed
-Castle Crashers

and the biggest disappointments were:
-Too Human
-Fable 2

Also, there's quite a few I haven't played yet, like Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, and Star Wars The Force Unleashed. I plan on playing those later sometime this year. And while Too Human and Fable 2 aren't that bad of games, I just found them to be the most disappointing, especially Too Human. I actually really liked Fable 2 at first until about half way through where it just lost a ton of steam for me. And the story was so loose it was practically non-existant.

I only play games on my XBOX 360 now as well, apart from spending the first half of '08 playing some City of Heroes.  Here are a few faves on XBOX in no particular order:

-NHL 09 - The Oilers have once again reclaimed the Stanley Cup in Be a Pro mode, thanks to the defensive stylings of Bucky Lastard
-GTA IV - classy production, good story and fun stuff to do, but not enough choice like in Fallout 3.
-Fallout 3 - loving the story, the choices and the sheer enormity of it all
-Left 4 Dead and Crackdown - the co-op multiplay is a hoot.

Favorites:

-Fallout 3: Playing this on my PS3. It's an awesome action rpg. Only thing missing are vehicles.
-GTA IV: Great story, characters, animation, and voice acting. The new gun mechanics and cover system are fantastic.
-Dead Space: Scared the beejeezus outta me! Fantastic setting...2 of my favorite films combined..Aliens and The Thing!
-Star Wars Forced Unleased: Great story that fits in nicely with the 6 films. Force powers and lightsabres just plain rock!
-NHL 09: Much better than 08...but still lacking in a few areas that will hopefully be corrected for NHL 2010.
-Saints Row II: Good story...lot's of fun mindless mayhem to be had.
-Rainbow Six Vegas II: Co-Op is were it's at with this game.
-Spider-Man Web of Shadows: Probably the best Spider-Man game I've played.

Disappointments:

-Ironman: Waaaay too hard! You're constantly getting hit by everything from every direction!
-Tomb Raider Underworld: I was really looking forward to this one. I only played the demo and it was fun...but I hear the full game is very short and easy :(. I'll have to pic it up in the bargain bin one day.

Favorites that I've played: Metal Gear Solid 4, Animal Crossing: City Folk, LittleBigPlanet, SoulCalibur IV

Dissapointing, but still ok: Fallout 3.

That's actually pretty much all I've played a whole lot. I just started Folklore, which is pretty decent, but I wish they'd have full voice, which shows how jaded these newfangled video games have made me.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

I only played one 2008-produced game last year, so I guess by default it's my favourite 2008 game:

Yakuza 2: The long-awaited (by me) port of the 2006 Japan-only game Ryu Ga Gotoku 2. The producers finally wised up and realized that the most likely audience for the DVD Region 1 (Canada/US) version of the game would already be somewhat familiar with Japanese culture and language, and wouldn't need a dumbed down import version (which was what they got with the game's unintentionally hilarious prequel). A solid beat'em-up with RPG elements and some fun mini-games, including traditional Asian games like mah-jong and shogi, as well as more familiar diversions like blackjack and a variation of craps (the dice game, I mean).
