Spring Heeled Jack

I can't get enough LOST!!

The fifth season starts in almost three weeks, so my anticipation is at fever pitch.

I'll put the content of this post in spoiler tags, but from here on it's spoilers aplenty, so don't read on if you're keeping yourself unspoiled!!

Spoiler
Anyone else suspect that Locke is a Hostile, just like Richard Alpert, Patchy, Daniel Faraday, Abaddon, and so on?

Okay, okay, this is totally unfounded. But they're all connected on a strange level--they don't age, they don't stay dead (or even injured), and they're all connected in a very special way to the Island.

I got a weird feeling that the Island is metaphysical, for lack of a better word, and the original inhabitants--long since flung from the Island or something--are almost metahuman in some way.

Sweet fancy Moses, this show is awesome.

Podmark

Yeah can't wait for the new season.

I think I've watched about 4 episodes ever of Lost...

It seems like a great show but it's always on while I'm watching something else so gets pushed out.. plus... I get lost watching it.

You get lost watching LOST!! Bwahahahahahahaha!!!

Ahem. Yeah, I didn't start watching it until last spring. I missed the show's premiere back in 2004, and I don't like starting TV shows after they've started. But I checked out the first season on DVD from the local library and was immediately hooked. When I moved back to Shepherdstown I made my girlfriend watch it, and then we breezed through the second, third and fourth seasons with aplomb.

It's one of the most engrossing television shows I've ever seen. It's incredible.

AfghanAnt

While I love the show, it has really gone down much like Nip/Tuck and Heroes. I really hope this season is better.

Silver Shocker

I got into Lost late too. I got into it last year during the Christmas holidays. Watched the DVDs, and then season 4. I am definitely looking forward to the new season. I think the show's great.

Yeah, what's up with Heroes? I don't like any of those characters, and I don't see the show going anywhere. I keep watching, hoping something will pick up, but it seems the show's just being made up from week to week. It definitely lacks the strong long-term vision that makes LOST so engaging.

I don't think LOST has, er, lost any steam. I think it's changing gears and picking up a bigger context, and I can't wait to see it all. :D

Podmark

Season 4 was probably my favorite since season 1. Although it may have had something to do with my unhealthy love of Miles Straume lol

Lost pick up steam when they made the call they needed too. Set and end date. It forced them to switch from "stretch" mode to writing towards a purpose.

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooost!! OMG OMG OMG OMG!!

Five days to go!

AfghanAnt

Oh my gawd, no one responded to this thread yet?

Spoiler
LOST WAZ FRICKIN" AWESOME LAST NIGHT!

Spring Heeled Jack

Yes!!

Locke is far and away my favorite character on Lost. Definitely. Ben's very compelling too.

Yeesh. Let's see... Nope. I don't know what to think about last night's episodes. The first 20 minutes were jam-packed, and I spent the commercial breaks uttering "Wait, wait, so if... And if... Then... Waitasecond..." Wow!

I really enjoyed when Dr. Chang/Waxman/Halliwax/Candle was filming the orientation video. That scene told us that 1) The DHARMA people knew about the Hostiles and intended to take care of them from the get-go, 2) They knew the Island had something worth exploiting, 3) They were not a peaceful commune as originally stated, 4) Daniel was there back then, either traveling in time or, I dunno, being timeless, and 5) This show is awesome.

Geez, I can't even begin to dissect the rest of the episode. Though I'll say that, yes of course Locke will die--but he won't stay dead, I suspect. He's special.

Oh, and why was Ethan such a jerk? I'm assuming he just starting killing people when they arrived on the Island, so was this a general Others policy, or was he just a jerk. I like when Richard said "What goes around comes around," though. Cheesy

The flaming arrows raining from the sky: OMG! And they were coming inland from the ocean! Who did that! And who were those men trying to cut off Juliet's hand?!

This is a show that, like a really good album or book, takes a lot of sinking in. You have to let it pass by a while and get some perspective. Until then I just won't get any work done!

GhostMachine

Did they kill all those guys threatening to Juliet's hand, or did they keep the one who did all the talking alive?

If he's alive, they should interrogate him, and either kill him or cut one of his arms off, for planning on doing that to her.

Locke killed them all.

Podmark

Yeah the premiere was awesome. Time travel looks to make a fun season.

Also Daniel Faraday is now the most important character in the show apparently. This amuses me.

This time travel business gets confusing, but the writers of the show have said that it's just a plot device. Which is to say, it should not be hammered into something logical, and that you'll enjoy the story more when you accept what the characters are saying and don't try to reason out what's going on with traditional "time travel" television framework.

Well anyway, I was very pleased to see Locke bust in on those thugs trying to cut off Juliet's hand. As soon as one of them got a knife in his chest, I knew it was Locke saving the day. :D

Silver Shocker

Yeah, it was a great premiere. Lots of stuff going on, lotta action, it was really good. Definitely looking forward to more.

Anyone care to speculate why Ben strangled Locke rather than have Locke commit suicide?

I'm detecting a growing presence of Christianity in this season. I can't help but assume that something quasi-spiritual about the Island wouldn't abide by Locke's killing himself, so Ben kept him from it. But Ben, placing the Island above all else, was willing to murder Locke and take the punishment on himself.

I think I got it. Ben's overall motivations aren't clear to me yet though.

Ben stopped John from killing himself because Ben didn't know how to get back to the island, and John did. Notice that Ben kills him right after he mentions Ms. Hawking. Once Ben knows how to get back he doesn't need John anymore and kills him. He also gets Jin's ring by stopping Locke.

So that's why he stops the suicide, but it doesn't totally explain why he still killed him.
I expect it's because Ben wants to still be in charge of the Others and Locke stands in the way of that. He didn't realize Locke would come back from the dead.
Alternate possibility is that Ben knew John had to die and probably that it had to appear as a suicide and after having convinced him to not kill himself didn't think he could re-convince John to kill himself. So he killed him in a way that he could make it look like a suicide. Why does John have to die? Simplest reason is that John dying would help convince the Oceanic Six going back but there could be more to it.

Anyway I've been loving this season.

Yeah, this season has been a real roller coaster. I don't think I've ever looked more forward to new episodes as I do to new episodes of Lost.

But I think you might have something there, Podmark. Someone else suggested to me that Ben's reaction to Locke may have something to do with why Ben strangled him. After Ben talked Locke down, Locke mentioned that he guessed they should go see Eloise, and something inside Ben clicked. So perhaps Ben needed some information from Locke and didn't expect it to be volunteered so easily. Then he was free to strangle him.

But we don't know why Ben killed him.

Has anyone played Just Cause 2?
You need to check out this video gameplay then.

WOW. I'm going to go buy this game tomorrow just so I can run around on the island.

ALSO

Spoiler
HOLY CRAP DESMOND IS BACK.

I was just saying how I liked this season less just for the fact that the best character ever wasn't in it. Now he is. I love Desmond so much.
I was partially expecting Walt to be "the who" because it just made the most sense. Unfortunately they've said that Walt isn't coming back which really sucks since they were all about some foreshadowing with him.

Desmond coming back is gonna probably be nuts. Since the rules of time travel don't apply to him, he may be able to move his consciousness between the two timelines (unintentionally or otherwise) or maybe be aware of the split. He'll probably save everybody again and be awesome OR get killed by Sayid (I'd cry). I don't remember what happened in the rest of the episode, but it was definitely one of my favorites yet based on the ending.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

Ok, as expected (because it was a Desmond episode), this was by far the best episode of the season. I'm glad they showed a flash-sideways which actually related to the plot of the show. And how! While it is great to get some answers about the island, the fact that all the "magic" has been just getting crazier on the island really isn't what I wanted to see. I absolutely LOVE all time-travel and scifi aspects of the show above everything else. My biggest hope was that EVERYTHING would get a fake science explanation, even if its a series of "time travel side effect!" and "he's psychic too!". All the religious/magic stuff may end up not having much of an explanation and the island may just be a "magic island". I'm hoping for a better origin than that. And also Walt will come back.
I think Smoke Monster is as evil as people make him out to be. Obviously the island is his prison and Jacob is trying to find someone to take over keeping him there. He wants to get off not just because he wants to go home but because he wants to destroy all of existence.
I was so worried Sayid was going to kill Desmond, then the other way around (though that wouldn't have been so bad since he's a zombie). But he just went with him. Which makes me think that maybe Eloise or someone leaped into his body (perhaps being Widmore's intention). But hopefully he just had a timemaster realization about how to fix everything and save everyone AGAIN. And he's just going through with a plan to stop the Smoke Monster, go back and live happily ever after with Penny and li'l Charlie. More likely is that he will die, and I will cry an entire ocean.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

I was just happy to see Daniel again. And he played a key role in the plot just like I'd hoped.
Daniel is my favorite :D
