And here is a modern version of The Black Hood. It's on Tommy's Captain America Bike TV Lite, so in he Run animation, a motorcycle appears. Oddly enough, there is a Red Skull face in this mesh.

And now I find that this is unknowingly a lost Copper Age skin. The Mighty Crusaders site has updated some recently (http://www.mightycrusaders.net/index.htm) and, along with some new art overall and new info on The Falcon/Press Guardian (apparently not the same character despite information I've seen before), there is a pic a FF skin of this version of The Black Hood that I don't recall seeing before. Ah well...

BentonGrey

I like that Black Hood, DG.  Nice work on the jacket.

Negasonic is really cool.  I think the face seems just a tad too large, but I can't quite decide.

VERY NICE!!

Fantastic work on the Docs! I wasn't sure how the jodphurs would look, but you really pulled it off. That photoskin is fantastic too, like he leapt from the cover of a book.
And is that a Zoom I see?
Sweet!

That is Zoom, and here is a more finished version:

Most of this was paths and patterns, so it was fairly easy (once I figured out how to do it).

Then there's this:

I know what you're saying, "Glob, we've already seen your Alfred E. Superman", but you haven't seen this one; it's for FF1.

BentonGrey

I completely agree with DM!  I was super excited about that skope, and even more excited by the WIP you sent me.  Both Docs are just awesome, and that photoskin is just plain beautiful!

That finished Zoom is lovely, DG.  Great work on that detailing.  He looks BETTER than the real life version!

This is a kind of cross-post. This is the bare beginnings of Swamp Thing ala Bernie Wrightson. I used Blender to invert the nose and remove one ear.

BentonGrey

Neat, and very resourceful, DG!  He's looking good.

A pulp character known as The Whisperer.

BentonGrey

The Whisperer is one that I don't think I know, but he looks great.  You've got a really interesting face on him, DG.  I like that Swamp Thing!  He turned out really nicely.

Awesome Whisper DG! I kept looking at it and looking at it until I finally remembered who it was. I think with this skin all the major First Comics characters have been skinned, great job.

All of them look great, but the Swamp Thing is really fantastic. I like a lot The Whisperer's face too.

daglob

The Whisperer used a special set of false teeth over his own to distort his face. I did this for him in Blender. I think his hat sits too high...

As for the First characters, I've never seen Dynamo Joe or Starslayer.

Actually, Glob, when the Whisperer first appeared in the pulps he didn't wear a hat at all and was more a "Man of a Million faces"-type character without the false teeth. It wasn't until latter that those two things were added.  I have the cover for the first Whisperer story somewhere in my collection of stuff....somewhere....

Got a reprint of the first story came in last week. I intend to read it as soon as I run out or get tired of Retief stories. An assortment of Whisperer covers (with him hatless) is here:

http://adventurehouse.com/shop/product-category/reprints/hero-reprints/whisperer/

The illustrations in the stories look more like The Spider, with a ragged, floppy hat (because they were done by the same artist I think). This hat is from a reprint magazine I got from Robert Sampson back in the '80s, printing a chapter or two of several stores (I think it included a bit of "Land of the Earthquake" by Henry Kuttner, too). Ron Wilber might have done the illustrations.

Deaths Jester

The cover I'm thinking of is the October '36 issue one that John Newton Howitt did.  Of course, you have to remember that the publisher of The Shadow also put out The Whisperer so interior art might've been reused  (Tom Lovell did a lot of the early interiors for The Shadow original mag in the '30s).As for the teeth - the more I think about it, the more I'm unsure if they appear in the first story or not. Been awhile since I read it.

Bit amaze you didn't go for the Phantom Detective seeing as he was the third "hero" in the progression of appearances of what ppl view as the "Masked Hero pulps" of the late 30s (even if there were big time precursers).

daglob

The problem with both The Phantom Detective and Secret Agent X is they are both rather mundane in appearance, especially next to The Purple Scar, Green Ghost, Crimson Clown and just about every other masked character Johnston McCulley created...

Deaths Jester

I don't know, McCulley's characters are extremely similar (though most were also incorrectly portrayed on the covers) when you get down to it. And his stories...so formula...so same. Oh well, to each his own.

daglob

Yeah, but I grew up on Zorro.

Formula... I've read all the Doc Savage stories.
