If anyone missed RAW last night and didn't tape it, either go find someone who did or smack yourself. The main event saw the return of a legend for one night only in a mixed tag match, though its possible she may return for Wrestlemania. I won't say who, but they were in Toronto, Canada, so you figure it out. :)

Batista is apparently out until at least next June, possibly even until August, with a torn hamstring. This possibly ruins the WWE's plans for Wrestlemania, as there were rumors that they were going to turn Big Dave heel and set up a Batista vs. Cena match at `Mania.

I hate to see anyone injured, but if the rumors were true I'm sort of relieved, as Batista has had waaaay too many title shots over the past two years.

Frankly, I think Batista should consider retiring.

How did she look overall? Still in good shape? any ring rust?

She looked terrific. And she didn't have any ring rust at all. Lawler even mentioned it during the match. Even hit the Matrix fairly soon after tagging in.

She's also grown her hair out some so its a bit longer than it was before. Looked great.

Mr. Hamrick

She might be back for a bit more than a one-nighter.  She mentioned recently that she would be interested in coming back for a brief feud with Beth Phoenix.  I could see that match happening at Wrestlemania. (it should happen there, imo!)  In addition, another female on the roster has been very interested in learning from Trish and I would not be surprised to see Trish take the young lady under her wing.

never become a spy, you started off in code then just named the mystery she :D

Lol. It's funny though, Trish brought Beth in to RAW. That was her foil to Mickie James. Then Mickie I think, broke her nose that 1st or 2nd night she wrestled. SHe did a Chyna and came back more feminine.

Actually, Beth had her nose broke after a screw-up in a match with Victoria.

Could have sworn it was Mickie. Wait, did Victoria sub for Mickie in that match?

Edit: Just read the story. It was her mandible that was broken. And yes it was Victoria. Hmm... think age is starting to catch up to me.

Over at another board I go to (which Mr. Hamrick also posts at sometimes), one of the other posters mentioned that according to the Facebooks of the Blue Meanie and Tammy Lynn Sytch (probably better known to those of you who are only WWF\E fans as Sunny), Test has died. :(

Only 33 too. Man, how am I living longer than these guys? And he was pretty good too.

You don't put your body through what is basically a car crash every other night for years on end.  The cherry on top is that most of these guys never let their bodies properly heal and turn to painkilling drugs to keep doing what they do.  Sure baseball, football and hockey players do the same thing --- but they have off seasons, healthplans and guaranteed money to a certain extent.

Wrestlers are on there own, no support by the company they're employed by.  That's part of the reason why the WWE keeps stressing they're entertainment and not a sport so they don't have to go by state and federal regulations that would apply to athletes and such.

They don't wrestle, they don't get paid.  Plain and simple.  So they keep doing what they have to keep wrestling and getting paid.

My belief as to what also is contributing, is that wrestling has become more brutal and what they're doing to their bodies is more punishing in the last decade.  Sadly, ECW may have been the best and worst thing to happen to wrestling.  Most matches have become nothing more than a stuntshow with constant high impact spots in crazy situations.  The gimmick matches and all these insane spots were held out for the biggest year end shows.  People getting hit with chairs, being put through tables and all this insanity was usually the end of something or the big climax to an arc.  Now, they're common occurrences in weekly matches.

Well, Test was a roids user, and roids do make you more susceptible to injury. But its possible he died from drug use; apparently he OD'd a while back but was saved by Kelly Kelly, who he was dating at the time. But they broke up a month or two back.

There's a pretty good text interview Bret Hart did with ESPN where he talks about wrestlers using painkillers (particularly Soma, which is what a few wrestlers have died from OD'ing on) and steroids. (Bret has admitted to using steroids for a while, but he never used painkillers)

Its on page two of this, and he has some pretty good points:

http://sports.espn.go.com/videogames/news/story?id=3965096

I thought the WWE dropped the ball big time regarding Test during his first run in the WWE...especially once they pulled off the Triple-H marrying Stephanie bit. Before he bulked up, cut his hair and went heel I thought he was a pretty good midcard to upper midcard level wrestler. (I don't think I could have ever seen him as a main eventer)

I recently started watching wrestling again, but the one thing that bugs me now, there are NO heroes! It used to be that if someone was getting teamed up on, someone would come out and help them. It just doesn't happen anymore. Dissappointing.

Ain't that the truth. If you want to REALLY be confused, watch TNA. Sting is a member of a heel stable, despite being a face, and he's currently feuding with Mick Foley, who was first brought in as an authority figure and recently turned heel. TNA has absolutely horrible booking and angles - I swear their bookers are either on drugs or need to be - but good wrestling. Their women's division is actually better than the WWE's, in my opinion.

They just had the annual draft in the WWE, and now is a good time to watch ECW, since they now have Hurricane Helms (not using the super-hero gimmick, just the nickname), Christian and Evan Bourne. The only downside is they sent Vladimir Kozlov to ECW, and knowing the way the WWE book things he'll probably dominate the roster, when truthfully he needs to be repackaged or released.

And to think.... I'll be doing this again next month.

I'm glad the Hurricane ditched the superhero gimmick. Ugh. I haven't been able to get into TNA, I tried (the wife love's Sting), but it just doesn't work for me.

The problem with Helms is that the Hurricane superhero gimmick is what got him over the most, and they really haven't done much to try to get him back up there. Him being out a long time with an injury when he was cruiserweight champ didn't help, either. Truthfully, I wish they'd let him use the Vertebreaker.

As for TNA, its not everyone's cup of tea. Sting happens to be one of my all-time favorite wrestlers, but the fact is TNA is more or less WCW-Lite - that is, they WISH they were WCW - with a somewhat decent women's division. They push older wrestlers who are past their prime too much (Mick Foley is the champ!) and don't give the younger guys enough room to shine. Plus, they have two guys who helped run WCW into the ground on their booking team; Vince Russo, whose crap helped speed up the company's demise, and Jeff Jarrett who is arguably one of the worst WCW champions of all time and was a midcarder until Russo, who is he friends with, took over as booker. (Don't get me wrong: I like Jeff Jarrett, but the fact is some of his WCW title reigns came at the expense of more deserving and more popular wrestlers and he's lousy as a heel)

TNA's booking team is primarily Jeff Jarrett, Dutch Mantel, and Vince Russo (who is more or less an advisor, meaning he doesn't have as much power as he had in the WWE or (thankfully, because the company would already be dead if he did) WCW, with Dixie Carter (unfortunately, not the actress from Designing Women), who has absolutely no clue what she is doing, having some say. She's been the one responsible, for the most part, for the company bringing in celebrities most people don't care about, and she has no knowledge of the wrestling business or from a fan standpoint.

Unless someone else takes over TNA, they will NEVER be anywhere near a threat to the WWE. They do have better wrestling at times, but their booking is atrocious and they sometimee even forget match stipulations during the actual matches!

One of the best things they could do is make Jim Cornette part of the booking team, instead of just an on-screen authority figure. Cornette does have a bad temper and is a bit nuts, but he's got some sense when it actually comes to the fans and booking.

thanoson

Somebody let Paul Heyman back in booking. That guy was a genius. Why? Because he actually let his wrestlers come up with stuff and considered it. Maybe with a tweek here and there.

I am sort of shocked by Umaga. Was it a wellness issue or anything?

Thats too bad i always liked Kennedy but he was always injured alot and never around enough to make a real impact.

thalaw2

Kennedy made his comeback and is now released again?  I'm shocked by the Jeff Hardy thing...shocked and laughed my behind off!  I have to agree there are not enough saves like there used to be in wrestling....no one runs out like they used to when a wrestler was in need.  I don't know who is writing the stuff now but they clearly need some emotional help.  It's too morbid.

Mitsuharu Misawa died in the ring in Japan!

I don't know the full specifics, but he was in a tag title match, took a back suplex from Akitoshi Saito and had a heart attack. He was declared dead at the hospital an hour and a half later, but may have actually died in the ring. (They stopped the match and tried CPR on him, but he didn't regain consciousness and turned purple)

He would have turned 47 on the 18th of this month.

Bit of trivia: He was the second Tiger Mask, which is why he used Tiger Drivers and Suplexes in his moveset.

appearently TNA wresting has signed Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff to the company.

Yep, puked a little in my mouth when I read this. Can you imagine AJ Styles or Samoa Joe having to job to the slowest leg drop in the world?

Well, honestly this means Vince Russo is either out as booker or will at least have his stupid ideas that don't get anyone over shot down. And either way, that's a good thing. Unfortunately it also means the wrestlers who are all past their prime will be getting pushed over the younger guys.

And Hogan is in no shape to be wrestling any time soon, if ever again.

TNA needs to be renamed "WCW Lite" now.

Ares_God_of_War

from what I heard neither he, nor bischoff were awarded any booking power by Dixie Carter in all of this and Russo is still there as well.
