starting this from the Capt. America movie topic. who do you think would make a good Namor the Submariner? someone ive always thought about was Nic Cage. he's slim built but could beef up a bit and has that long namor looking face. looks more that part than Johnny Blaze.

Not just no but Hell No!  Aside from the fact that there's no way in hell he could properly act the part, and that he tries to get a bit of Elvis in everything lately (Namor with mutton chops???    ), his chin is too weak (in my opinion).  Hugo Weaving would have been a good choice, if he hadn't been tapped for the Skull.  Not sure who would be good off the top of my head, but I'd prefer someone that could actually act the part of regal arrogance, and not just overact.

Nic Cage?!  Blech!

The actor who would portray Namor, should be 30-ish (and not over 40), should be in great shape and should (as PG pointed out) have the ability to project a regal bearing.

I personally, don't see Hugo Weaving in the role.

C'mon HD, get serious! :P  Like I said in the Cap thread, Hugo Weaving would have been perfect in so many different ways.  He's got the size, the look, and also the acting chops and natural haughtiness to totally pull Namor off.

They'll probably end up just giving the role to Ryan Reynolds.

Ok, bad call on my part but...i cant see hugo either. just my misguided opinion. he has the facial vote but not the build.Hmmm...the casting call goes on......

Glitch Girl

Wasn't Dwayne Johnson supposedly up for that role at one point or am, I getting confused with one of the infinite number of nerd-speculation posts out there?

I thought Dwayne Johnson was up for Black Adam (before the Captain Marvel movie was kiboshed that is)?

I think this was before the Black Adam rumor, before Fantastic Four 2 was released.  It's been so long I can't be sure if it was real or if it was just someone throwing around casting names for the heck of it.

...Movieline just posted a rumor that Zac Efron has been offered the role of Namor...I'll have to top my blech for Nic Cage with a "BLARGH!" for Zac.

I could actually get behind Zac Effron as Namor.  He's just so unapologetic about his manufactured-ness (?) And actually he did really well in Hairspray and that body switching movie.
Plus he looks like Ray Liotta a bit.  and couldn't you imagine how awesome a Ray Liotta or Robert Patrick Namor would be?

Mads and Viggo are far too mature (being 45 and 52), Brandon Routh is a maybe...However, IMHO, he was a poor Superman.

I don't blame Routh for Superman at all.  I thought he was a fine actor for the role stuck with a poor script and director.  Having seen him in his guest arc in Chuck, I can tell you he's actually a fine actor.  Whether or not that means he's be a great Namor, I don't know, but he can do a character with shades of both hero and villain.

I've always thought of Namor as "more mature" than most mainstream superheroes, which guided my selection.  This was character of indeterminate age, who has not visably grown older in 70 years, without any intervention (i.e. being frozen in ice and the like), so I figured that an older actor could play the part.  As far as Routh, I thought Superman Returns was a bad movie, but I don't thnk that Routh screwed it up with his portrayal.  Really, he wasn't trying to be Superman.  He was trying to be Christopher Reeve being Superman, without having anyy significant plot in which to be either character.  He didn't really stand a chance to put his own stamp on the character.  Personally, I think his face fits Namor, as drawn by Bill Everett, Jack Kirby and Gene Colan, particularly his jaw, which is long, but still strong.

True...The script/story/movie was bad...I'm wrong to blame the actor.  Brandon is at a good age for Namor, I think...And he has a similar facial structure and coloring to Namor (just slick his hair back, slap some greeny-blue contacts, fishscale speedos and pointy ears on him).

I always thought Namor looked pretty Asian, too. I would like to see them go with somebody of Asian decent.
