Trailer

This show looks promising. Also I heard there's another superhero show coming soon. Not sure which network is it.

I'm glad there are enough emoticons to express how I feel.
No way this makes it to a second season. With the exception of Community, NBC just picks the wrong shows, they're way out of touch with whatever demographic I'm in and can't do a decent drama. If their X-Men ripoff is finally canceled solely because of bad writing, why is their Batman ripoff going to be better when it looks like it has such bad writing from the get-go? The jokes were so corny. The "underwear" crack has been in every superhero movie. The Cape? Chess? If that's the best they can come up with, get the rights to some existing character so you can at least have some kind of recognition. Or at least find some better creator for your hero show. There must be some decent comic book writer who will jump at a chance of creating a character for TV. Trained by circus performers in the sewers? This show is like one step up from Night Man, it should come on Saturday mornings on UPN.

I'll watch it anyway.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

I don't know if this will be any good or not, but it has Summer Glau and Keith David and that is totally cool.

Feeling the same way pod. Looks pretty cool, and relatively stable. Only thing buggin me is the whole stretchy cape thing. Also, the name the Cape as a superhero identity is kinda weird.

Gremlin

This is neat. I love that Keith David is a circus ringleader mentor, that is twelve kinds of awesome. Although the "supervillain attacks the city, cop dies and becomes a superhero" is very similar to a comic I am writing with a friend, so that's annoying.

herodad1

it could go either way but i'm glad superheroes with costumes is starting to make their way into tv.just need people to stand behind these shows.they have my attention!  :)

The Cape looks pretty awesome, if you ask me.  Maybe the names aren't great, but try to find a superhero name that's not already copyrighted, why don't you?

The other show is No Ordinary Family, starring the same guy who played the Thing.  As a matter of fact he has bascially the same powers in this show.

trailer

I just so happened to be coming here to post both trailers, but it looks like I was beaten.

Anyhow, both shows look promising, although the Cape looks a bit better, IMO, but NOF looks to be more humorous.  We shall see.

Exactly why I will watch, but not expect it to last.

Name one TV series that she has been a main character and, while the show was good, didn't get cancelled very quickly. Not anything against the actress, as she is good at what she has portrayed so far (I'd like to see her beyond the faulty/dysfunctional human, which she did well in the Unit and CSI - more of the same please), but she seems to be bad luck >_>

It would be cool if they can get Meta with it... given that he is "the cape" (very typical superhero slang) and read a comic called "the cape" and was framed as the main villain. They should pay Grant Morrison for a few days of consulting, I bet he could do something really nutty with it.

BlueBard

Of the two trailers, I think I would like "No Ordinary Family" better.  It has a bit of an "Incredibles" feel to it, and I like the humor and the chemistry.  Of course it is very likely that it will wind up jumping the shark before too long, but I bet it gets at least one good season.  My prediction is that they will eventually start introducing other 'metas' to keep things interesting and at that point it is liable to go downhill.

Spoiler
So the dad is invulnerable and appears to have super strength.  The mom has super speed.  The girl is telepathic.  Can't figure out what powers the boy is supposed to have; all we can see from the trailer is that he was able to do complex calculations after previously having learning disabilities.

There's something about "The Cape" that makes it uncomfortable to watch.  I can't pin down why.  It might be an element of the supernatural that the trailer hints at.  It might be the extreme level of violence, or the dark theme.  Or all of the above.

We don't watch much TV and I doubt I'll be able to watch either of these with young children in the house, so it's probably academic whether I like them or not.

NOF looks promising.  I'd like to see where they go with it. One thing the trailer didn't address is what happened to the pilot, I wonder if he was killed or if he will be a plot point later on.

Meanwhile:

After watching the Cape trailer, I feel hungry.  I guess it was all that ham and cheese.

And did I just see them STAPLE a mask to that guy's head?

Okay, the only way I see the Cape working is if they manage to add a little camp to it because the premise is even more ridiculous than NOF and if it completely lacks a sense of humor and takes itself deadly serious, it's gonna crash and burn.  Oh, and the foreshadowing is like a sledgehammer even in that short bit so it NEEDS a little tongue-in-cheekness to work IMO.  OTOH, it does have Summer Glau and Keith David who has one of the coolest voices in voice acting.

I'll give it a chance.  Heck I'll give both of 'em a chance.

Hey! The Cape stole all my ideas!

Then again, I stole them from The Shadow...

I was wondering the same thing myself.

That's what it looked like to me.  But it didn't look like it was attached later on.

The cape itself is a bit ridiculous to me.  It's made out of spider silk, so of course it can do all of these amazing things???  That was what it sounded like.

I'll hold off on any further judgment for now.  You can't always tell much from a trailer.  Lines and actions can easily be out of context and therefore misleading.

I want to like the cape because it is probably the same awful show I would produce, especially since I love heroes with that sort of weapon (remember the What If with a ninja stephen strange using a silk rope with weights?). You know, reminds me of 70's kung fu movies.

But if being dead to the world is such a big deal, shouldent he wear a mask? That hood does not cut it. Yeah, it is cheesy as heck but so was buffy and that worked out ok. Let's hope they figure out how to make this work.

As for the other show (not an ordinary family) I think it looks promising, like Fantastic Four with more family moments and less trips to the negative zone. I cant wait to check it out.

Thanks, forgotten the name of the other superhero show. The trailer in your link is gone, here's another one.

Three of which were put on by FOX, and met the Friday Night Death Slot, if memory serves correctly. So...

Here's hoping on another network her show'll see more success. I eagerly anticipate seeing Summer's role in this show.

As for the rest, I think it looks like a great show. Yes, there's stretching of credulity, but it's got that camp-serious feel that hit it just right for me. I'll be excited to see how it goes, hopefully it lives up to expectations.

Just meant the quality of the video.  Whoever uploaded your link got a very grainy copy.  Still if works for those who can't view the higher quality version.

Still it seems odd to restrict to a trailer to one country, given how much money networks make from marketing shows to other countries.  Companies have such nutty copyright policies some times.

Julie Benz.  That's all that a show needs for me to give it a chance.

Mr. Hamrick

Both shows have their merits.

I just hope they are not scheduled on the same night against one another.

catwhowalksbyhimself

That's what Hulu is for.

Although that would actually be bad for both shows if they were, since a lot of the same people would be interested in both.

I quite like NOF, through the writing needs to be improved greatly.

The Cape though, looks like a show I could LOVE (which of course means its doomed).
