Brainiac Skull Minions?

I'm trying to clear something up... this came up during a conversation last night but is still unresolved.

Didn't Brainiac at one time have some robot minions that looked like his skull?  I know he had a ship that had that look, and n the Justice League video game you fought a couple of Brainiac head robots, but did this happen in the comics and if so, is there a picture I can look at?

I found a couple pictured here and here, but I'm pretty sure both of these are the aforementioned ship.

No rush, just one of those stupid little questions that come up among geeks.

That came between periods when I was reading comics, and I try to keep that era out of my mind as much as possible.  So much for therapy.

In "Whatever Happened to the Man of Steel", Luthor tries to salvage that version of Brainiac, and the "head" comes online and takes over Luthor's body. Brainiac's "skull" sits on top of Luthor's head.
