You know, honestly it doesn't look too bad. I just hope they aren't putting all their efforts into the special effects and fight scenes to the determent of the story.

Also it still bugs me that it's called The Last Airbender.

Looks good, but I have doubts....because of the writer, producer, & director. His last couple of movies were not that great.

The animated show was great. I really don't know if this will measure up but it looks nice. I doubt it will have the same sense of whimsy though.

That looked pretty good, and they seem to be following the first book pretty accurately from what I can see. My hopes for this film just went up.

The series was absolutely suberb, but it seems alot of other people are concerned with how well it'll turn it (to restate the obvious). And why not? When we've been scorned by superhero movies like Ghostrider, Daredevil, and dare I say...X-Men 3. *shudder* I could go on entire rant on what they did wrong to Phoenix, but we won't go there.

Not wild about the fact that Katara's white. And Sokka. And the kid playing Aang looks way too young. And the absense of Zuko's scar.

...maybe I'll wait 'til you all see it before I spend my money.

I agree there. Not sure why the picked non exotic looking white folks. I could deal with everyone being just a little older. Its easier to ignore in the animated version.

Does anyone still plan on seeing this? Early reviews are out and none of them (Roger Ebert specifically) are particularly pleasing towards the movie. This lowers my already low expectations quite a bit.

Will be seeing it Friday. For M. Night's sake, I hope it's OK. There are a lot of rabid Avatar: TLA fans out there.

it might be a decent action flick but a shoddy version of the series it was based on from the looks of the reviews.

M. Night's lost his touch. He used to be one of my most favorite directors, with Sixth Sense and especially Unbreakable being two of my top favorite movies ever. However, everything after The Village was absolutely abysmal. I mean he went from an ok film (The Village, some love it or hate it, but I thought it was above average. Certainly watchable) to the complete disaster that was Lady in the Water. It was like a complete 180. Then came The Happening which was even worse. In fact, one of the worst movies I've ever sat through.

Now this. I don't have high expectations (not familiar with the series at all), and it's certainly something new for him, but an 8%? That's 10% WORSE than The Happening!

what happened to him? He used to be such a great talent.

the accolades he got from his early works went to his head to the point he stopped listening and started taking shots at critics in his movies?

What's worse about this particular movie is that he worked so very hard to get permission to write and direct it because he and his son were such big fans. If the racial stuff wasn't enough of a warning of what direction this moving was heading, the writing should have sealed the deal, heh. Not to mention it was shoe-horned into the whole 3d fad Hollywood seems to be stuck in.

Anyway, I really would advise you to give the show a try, Marvell. It's one of the few kid-oriented shows (from nickelodeon, no less) that had actual continuity, overt and subtle themes, maturity and comedy, and beautiful animation that really showcased Asian culture as best it could.

My 20 year daughter who is a big fan of the series like us all saw it at a midnight preview. She strongly recommended not seeing it. She said it was cluttered forced , muddled , everything felt rushed and way too compressed. characterization was almost non existent and most of the actors were just not right.

This one of the very few times she's said "don't do it! Do not see this movie!

I agree i can't praise the show enough. The whole family sits down and enjoys it. It has something for nerds of all ages.

So many red flags, so many high hopes and subsequent low expectations. And with a swish of a star, Roger Ebert condemns the film to its not unforeseen fate. I've read the critical reception on Wiki, the forums, heard the warnings from my friend through hers. The thought that we're being too hard flashed through my mind...for a second.

This has been a bad few years for superhero movies. How 'bout that upcoming Tekken movie?

Its an ok movie. It's very rushed and some of the dialogue is horrible. There is hardly any character development accept for the fire Prince. And that's just enough so you understand why he's bent on capturing him. Other than that, zip. It was a pretty film with some nice action shots. However, it seemed to get overshawdowed by the "Look at this cool sequence. Seriously, it's so cool I slowed it down for you. Watch." Almost every fight scene had one of those. If not 3-4. Loved some of the costumes and hair styles. However, the Princess of the Northern Water tribe had a very umm.... phallic hairstyle when you 1st see her. ANd the love interest between her and the anglo hero seemed rushed and forced at best. It's a decent matinee flick. 3d won't come out good on a tv. Kids will love it. Oh, and I come as a person who has never seen the series so I am unbiased. No nerdrage for me.

Its done about 130 mil domestic and 30 and change international thus far. So Its likely there will be a sequel. Especially now that Nickelodeon has greenlighted the second Avatar series.

I saw it. It was good dumb popcorn fun. I've watched the Avatar cartoon front and back 3 times now. There are obvious inconsistencies, but hey. They got Mo Mo and Appa right.
