Well...that's...interesting.  My first reaction was 'heck no!'  Yet, the more I think about it...well, he could certainly LOOK the part.  He's huge, he has sort of bronze skin, and with the right makeup and such...he might be the best visual representation of the good Doctor we're likely to see.  However, I don't really think he's got anywhere near the acting chops to successfully pull off the smartest man in the world.  Doc has to be a lot more than a bruiser, and I don't know that the Rock can do that.  Still...I'm curious, if not optimistic.

Interesting indeed. I actually think Dwayne Johnson is pretty sharp and might be able to pull off a believable scientist character on screen. Of course, he has a challenge in overcoming the audience's expectations that any character he plays will be something other than cerebral.

IMO, the biggest potential obstacle in this regard may be simply the sheer lack of imagination in Hollywood writers. Too many of the writers buy into the ignorant stereotype that people who understand science (or any STEM area) must be dorks and they don't seem to be able to write much else. Of course, there's always a chance. First canary in the coal mine: See if they put the character in dorky glasses...  <_<

But will they make his eyes gold?  And how well will the other odd character be cast and how will they handle their odd characteristics?

Also, why don't I own any of these stories yet?  I must do something about that.

And they will always have the 1975 movie to live up to.

I grew up watching that movie.  My dad was a big Doc fan.  He had me read his books too. I enjoyed them.

I wasn't a perfect adaptation, but it was fun.

True. Ron Ely looked more like the Doc of the pulp covers than James Bama's version. I was much more disappointed in his aides. I've got a "serious" edition someplace that does away with a lot of the Sousa marches and does a little editing here and there.

I'm probably close to your Dad's age...
