Wow, this really is real! Excited to see what Marvel Studios does with Spidey!

I think the difference between Sony and Fox is a) the contract, I understand it's very slanted to Fox compared to the one Sony has, and b) the X-Men movies are largely successful more so than the latest Spider-Man films. As for the Fantastic Four films I seem to recall Fox nearly lost the license around the same time they did lose Daredevil.

My only concern is that the Thor film and other new franchises have been pushed back for this. I can't help but wonder if we need to see yet another Spider-Man so soon, especially with a new actor. I have mixed feelings about this, but it seems like Marvel has planned for this possibility for some time and know just what to do with the character.

So where does that place the upcoming Sinister Six movie?

I think that this might answer your question:

Quote from: IGNUnder the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, ...

HarryTrotter

Okey.I wonder who they will cast?If they cast a new actor at all, that is?

Have they been pushed back? As I recall, Marvel had actually set up their release schedule around Sony's Spiderman films even before this deal, and I didn't see anything in that article (though I'm on my phone and may have missed it) that indicated that had changed.

Whoa! Marvel is finally going to get a shot at Spider-Man on film....sort of.

This is really surprising, and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, I dearly wish Marvel just had Spidey back free-and-clear, but perhaps Feige will be able to keep the empty suits at Sony from ruining more Spider-Man movies. That would be definitely worth something.

I know I'm almost certainly in the minority with this wish, but here's hoping we don't see Spidey in the Avengers.  He's never been a good fit for a team, and he'd be sure to overshadow all the great second tier characters that have gotten a chance to shine, thanks to his absence.

Still, it would be awesome to see this major part of the Marvel Universe get to be part of the film universe.

I love the very subtle slam Feige offers against Sony's movies: "Marvel's involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU." In other words, 'hopefully we can clean up the mess you people made by screwing around with one of the most accessible and beloved characters in comics and do things right this time.'

I love this. I'm hoping that not only do we see Spidey in Cap Civil War, but in Avengers 3 as well. If the rumor that none of the big three will be in Avengrers 3, it would be nice to see the film focus on the original new Avengers-Spidey, Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Dr Strange. That would make for an awesome movie.

Still, I want to see Spidey in the Avengers as he's been an avenger for a very long time now, and he needs to be out there with MCU's heavy hitters like IM, Cap, and Thor.

Benton, I read somewhere that Kevin Feige wants Avi Arad gone regarding Spider-Man being a "shared property". I imagine he holds him responsible for the bad turn the franchise has taken.

I also agree with you regarding Spider-Man as an Avenger. I don't care how long he, or Wolverine for that matter, have been on the team. They will never be Avengers to me. I don't dislike the characters, but some people fit and some people don't.

I am also wondering if Captain America: Civil War will be a launch into a separate Civil War trilogy or if they are just going to focus on the conflict between Tony Stark and Cap and have that lead into other movies for Phase 2 or even Phase 3.

For anyone else following this new thread, a thread was previously started by Catwhowalksbyhimself citing some of the details of the Sony/Marvel arrangement: http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=57679.0

I believe there is a link in that thread that brought me to site mentioning Feige's desire to remove Arad.

Yup, I agree. Still would love to see Spidey interact with MCU Avengers, even if it isn't as an official team member. This is great news all in all, can't wait to see what comes out of it.

While I am very happy about this, I'm a little mad that they pushed back Black Panther movie.  I rather see that then Spidey.

I'm with you on Black Panther, JeyNyce. I'm really looking forward to seeing that one.

I'm a little curious as to the delay in Thor: Ragnarok. I had noticed the release date before and it struck me as odd. It will be a full four years after The Dark World. Most sequels of all genres have been following the two year schedule, unless they were all filmed at one time like Lord of the Rings. Cap and Thor have essentially been released within 6 months of each other and the last Thor movie will now be released 18 months after the last Cap film. The only reason I could think of was actor availability.

JeyNyce

I wonder if Inhumans will be the last movie in the MCU?  Looking at the list I'm thinking that the actors will probably be tired of playing that character and will want to move on to something else.

In the MCU? Doubtful. Marvel has still characters beyond that. Black Panther can continue, Spider-man will be a prominent feature, they can always present Betar Ray Bill if Hemsworth retires the cap. And i trully believe Nova will arive in phase 4. MCU is fine, we will still get our heroes.

SickAlice

I can only digress..seriously big news week for comics folks. Impressive things going on.

Funny thing, one of the theories for Thor 3 was that Thor and Beta Ray Bill would team up against Gorr. Now,I would pay good money to see that.

And it has apparently now been confirmed that Spidey will be appearing in Civil War.  Also, Disney got the character by shoveling boatloads of money at Sony until they were buried in it so deep they had to cry uncle.

This is great, Amazing 2 was worse than Ghost Rider. Here's hoping we get Donald Glover this time around.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

I have to say, I'm not super excited about this.  Captain Marvel and Black Panther were both more interesting to me than another go round with Spider-man, and now they've both been delayed.  For a third take on Spider-man within fifteen years, that -even if it's better- is going to feel like a retread.  If it's Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker, I'll be a little more positive, but I really don't think that's going to happen.

I am extremely against seeing Miles Morales before Peter in the MCU. It's like making Dick grasyon Batman before Bruce Wayne. It's not about color, Miles has become his own man over the years but this is a historic moment. Spidey is finally coming home after all this years!!! Peter deserves a shot with the other characters.

XStream

Pretty sure I have read about Feige being excited about the possibilities for Peter Parker. I don't think Marvel is planning on using Miles right now.

I was pretty excited about this news until I realized it was pushing back some of the other projects I was looking forward to. I'm still excited about Spider-Man being done by Marvel, it was the one thing I felt ASM missed.

I am a little curious as to how they will make Spider-Man relevant to Civil War without him having a history. His whole storyline for CW is built around his fame/infamy. Will anyone care if he is unmasked and nobody know who he is? Will they want to unmask him. Didn't we learn from fallout of CW that unmasking Spider-Man is a HUGE mistake? Will they have him register without unmasking him? But who would care? Most/All of Marvel's movie heroes' identities are public knowledge, right?
I am not, nor have I ever been a Rude Naked Hero!

Starman

I hope it's Miles Morales, as I'm really not keen on seeing Peter Parker's origin and supporting characters on film again. But I'm guessing Marvel will want to play it as a safe as possible and just cast a young-ish actor as (yet again) high-school era Peter.

In any event, it'll be pretty sweet seeing this burgeoning roster of characters in Infinity. I don't envy the scriptwriter and director of that one, though.

JeyNyce

I'm hoping that Marvel will use their infamous easter eggs to tell the origin of Spider-man.  For example, at the end of Avergers 2, you can show a class going to some kind of science school trip and you'll see one of the kids there is Peter or just show the criminal that killed uncle Ben and just show Spidey's shadow over him.  People will get the idea that while the Avengers were fighting Ultron, Peter got bite by the spider and so on. The way I see it, everybody know Spidey's origin, you don't have to tell it all over again, just drop a few hints and people will put the rest together from the other 2 sets of Spidey films

Yes Spider-man will be in a high school again but there won't be an origin story. That's what the reports say. Guys if we think this for a second starting him in high-school makes a lot of sense. That means they are getting a n actor who can fianlly play the role for more than seven years and we will see a true progression of the character like in the comics. Did you want a 30+ actor who couldn't play past 4 movies?

catwhowalksbyhimself

If you read my original thread, I mentioned that Marvel wanted to start out with the character already as a well known, established hero and move on from there.  Spidey can play a prominent role in Civil War because in the MCU, everyone will already know who he is.  Expect him to be mentioned in Agents of Shield and the Netflix shows now as someone everyone has heard in.  Since Civil War is likely to prove to be a major change for the character, it provides a good jumping point for a new series without having to retell his original.  The audience already knows who he is and how he got his powers, so this makes perfect sense.
