So Dwayne Johnson (The Rock for those living under one) has officially confirmed that he will be playing Black Adam after months of speculation as to whether he was going to be playing Adam or the titular hero. However, I just came across far more interesting, and hopeful, news about the film:

Quote"It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself," he explains. "It's a DC comic, but it's not a Justice League character, and it's not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies... [It] will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real."

That's far from the sense of doom and gloom present in... well, pretty much every other DC property. That might be because Shazam will not be handled by the same team that is handling those films, instead being produced by New Line Cinema. The quote above is itself taken directly from NLC President Toby Emmerich, in lieu of there being an actual director just yet.

After years of the rest of WB going darker and darker with their films, even so far as to (Supposedly) ban jokes in their films, having a DC film where there will be a "Sense of fun" fills me will so much hope, you don't even know.

It feels like this guy is trying to say that "Yes this is a DC Film, but it'll feel as fun as a Marvel Film"

The Rock should make for a great Black Adam. I would have loved to see him play Captain Marvel but being the bad guy may just be more interesting for him.
