I know it's unlikely, but...Phoenix Five Cyclops?

Hey, all!

I realize that Avengers vs X-Men wasn't great, and even if it were, there are a limited amount of creators left in the community.

But I did think that the designs for the Phoenix Five were really nice, and if anyone ever decided to do a Cyclops version, I, for one, would really like to see it. (Obviously, the visor's not going to happen; I'm more a fan of the look. Just one of those costumes that, while simple enough, kinda grabbed me.)

One day, probably not any time soon, but one day I will do a Cyclops costume retrospective skin set. And Phoenix Five Cyclops will definitely be included.
Until then I encourage anyone to take a shot at it. I quite like the costume and I'd love to see it skinned.

See, Avengers vs. X-men got a ton of hate when it was coming out, but I know there are several comic fans, specifically creators (myself, Podmark, etc.) who really appreciated what came out of that event even if the story was kind of silly. That, and the fact that the Phoenix Cyclops is actually a pretty cool outfit, and you probably won't have trouble convincing another skinner to do it.

Thanks for the responses, you guys -- even if you guys aren't the ones to do it, it is nice to know that I wasn't crazy in thinking that the costume really had some good things about it. As always, with this forum, I know patience is always the key -- Pod, if you see this, it is UNBELIEVABLE that you found a way to do Rocket Raccoon, and Tomato, I was amazed to see J'edd J'arkus -- because at some point, someone always finds a way.

It's been more than a decade of you guys doing amazing stuff. I appreciate all that you creators do!

You're definitely not alone on that one man... I watch a few websites that showcase Custom Action figures, and for a while after AvsX came out at least 1 in 10 customs was another Phoenix Cyclops.

Edit: I might have exaggerated that a bit (I was mixing the NOW costume along with this one in my memory) but ironically a version of that costume was just posted today.

Ha! I should've figured -- I'm absolutely not an artist, but things I really like have always ranged toward the mainstream. It's weird -- I really liked all of the Phoenix Five's outfits, except Namor's, which I thought was a little lackluster. But the rest of them were really distinctive, eye-catching. I know they were story-driven, but I kinda wish they had stuck around a little longer, especially Cyclops' and Magik's.

In all honesty, to me, that is NOT Cyclops, the colors are wrong, the design is wrong, even the visor is wrong. But that's not to say that if this was an original character design I wouldn't be drooling all over it. It's a fantastic design, and I LOVE the visor. Even though this doesn't look even remotely like Cyclops, I like the costume design enough to add myself to the list of people who would like to see this design made for FF.

There are some amazing creators here, and there are a lot of characters that I never thought would see the light of day that have been skinned/skoped/meshed. And for that, I am very much grateful. I do hope that someone adds this to their "to-do" list. That would be awesome.

That's the point though... I'll admit being very upset when I first caught glimpses of the NOW costume, but in the context of the story, it fits. The man running around in Uncanny X-men is not the same man who led the X-men for over 4 decades. There is a very clear break between the character as he was prior to Avengers vs X-men, and how he was after the after the story concluded. Those changes are reflected in his costumes... I see his Phoenix outfit in particular as a bridge between the two designs, a visual cue that Scott has started down the path that would eventually lead to him killing Xavier (and in doing so, rejecting everything Xavier stood for).

I was fine with the story, for the most part, until he killed Xavier -- there was just something so...I don't know. I thought that was a step too far for the character, even though, as you said, he had clearly changed over the years, from the sanctioning of X-Force, through Schism, up through AvsX.

The funny thing, though? I LOVED "Consequences." Holy hell. One of my favorite minis in the last...decade, maybe? I loved that follow-up series, and while I'm not totally caught up on what Bendis is doing right now, I do have the new X-Men series and will sit down and read them at some point.

Yeah consequences was really good.

The thing about Xavier's death is that the person who killed him wasn't the same Scott Summers, and the person he is now is something else still. The man who killed Xavier was someone corrupted by absolute power, and perhaps influenced more directly by the Phoenix entity. Personally I hold the Avengers at fault for Xavier's death as much as Cyclops. They just handled that entire situation terribly.

I'm really happy with the X-Books right now. Originally I thought Bendis coming in would be a disaster but he's done pretty good.

There's a whole debate in there about how much of that was cyclops and how much was the phoenix possessing him (in my mind, the Phoenix exaggerated Cyclops' feelings... he may not have literally killed Xavier had the phoenix not been possessing him, but he would still have ended up coming against Xavier in the worst way) but that's a debate we should leave for another time.

That being said, Consequences is really what set the stage for what came after. I still see Cyclops as being as much a villain as Magneto ever was, but Consequences really underlined why he believes what he's doing is right.

I would also love to see this skinned. I will add him to my to-do list, but it is unlikely to be done any time soon. I have a very minute amount of time I can put towards skinning nowadays. I have been working on 1 skin for about a month now! I hold out on the hope that someone can get this accomplished before me.
