Are there some in-depth quest and role playing option mods?

I was wondering if there are any modules that have either or some of these:
multi branched quests
variety of mission types: investigation, exploration, heist, secret agent/undercover, diplomatic, etc.
several options/choices on how to deal with a situation/encounter

Just looking to play Freedom Force with some variety beyond fetch quests or kill the foozle quests.  Something inspired from Fallouts and even Hammer and Sickle tactical CRPG.

Is there anything made that has some of these qualities?

Not to my knowledge, even if, for example, The Strangers had many missions with multiple possible solutions. If you want to create such a mod, though, you'll make some happy FF fans!

The technology is definitely there, both in Python and through EZScript, but no one has really done that type of thing yet.

Actually, years ago, there were a couple FF demos mods on Sourceforge, with one of them demonstrating branching. IIRC, some Strangers missions used branching too.

And it's also worth taking a look at the DrMike2000's Patriot City. That mod uses an open topology for the missions, which gives it a very different feel from the linear structure typical of FF campaigns. The structure is there to create other mods that are more open-ended and whose stories can unfold in different ways.

As a fellow Silver Surfer fan, Welcome to Freedom Reborn.

The Strangers and Patriot City mods mentioned are available here: http://fundamentzero.com/index_games.htm
Dr. Mike 2000 was the creator, and his mods remain to this day as some of the most inspired and intellectually challenging.

The Reformed is a mod by C4 and Volsung.   It's also quite distinct, and not the standard superhero fare.  I'm not sure if it's still available online,  does anyone else know?

and Previsionary http://frp.unlimited2.net/mods/ with other friends also have a fantastic variety of mods to play.
(and I gotta say, they are more difficult than the normal campaign,  so you could play them more strategically)

Thanks for the info guys.

Right on Detourne_me, hello to you to.

I have just always thought there are tons of smash em up, combat Superhero games, and any with RPG aspects basically have only fetch quests or kill the foozle quests, and and very little branching-of anything from exploration, conflict/encounter resolution, to dialogue.

I thought it would be awesome to add some variety to the genre, just as in the comics world there are more niche and specialized brands like the Awesome "planetary" by Ellis

The old game Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures" has a great toolkit (though its ancient) where some modders have made Superhero mods that have some branching quests and dialogue.

The game Superhero League of Hoboken, from the early 90s, is an Adventure/RPG, with RPG combat, and an Adventure game style User Interface.  It works pretty well and is a great attempt to lead the Superhero video game genre in a new direction.  The only issue with the game is it becomes somewhat repetitive where you have to find item after item to solve a puzzle over and over, and that is basically the only gameplay in addition to random combat and some rudimentary exploration.

Another game of interest in that it explores new avenues in Superhero gaming, is Comic Book Hero.

Here's some reviews from their forums:
"411Mania (8.7 out of 10): "Comic Book Hero: The Greatest Cape is not for everyone, but fans of text-based games, comics, super heroes and RPG's (and even tabletop games like D & D) will love it. The editor is incredibly powerful and flexible, the combat system feels satisfying and more importantly, it is easy to learn and fun to play. GreyDog and Adam Ryland have done it again: Comic Book Hero is a winner."

Just Press Start: "For gamers looking for something truly different in a superhero game, look no further than Comic Book Hero: The Greatest Cape. Available for $24.95 ... this gets my highest recommendation."

I would work on a mod like I described, but can only help as part of a team for now, as I have several gaming projects I am involved in for work, I have board game being published, and already working on a Computer RPG concept.  But, I could help work with a team to make a mod like this.

Oddly enough, I have Superhero League of Hoboken, though I have never played it. I bought a used PC in the mid-90s and the seller gave me several of his PC games along with the machine.

I have played CBC and enjoyed it quite a bit. I wouldn't think of it mostly in terms of a role-playing game, though. It does have some features designed to capture some aspects of maintaining a secret ID, creating allies, etc. But, the mechanics of the process aren't really role-playing.

The real issue with FF/FFvt3R is that the games don't really have a strong conversation editor and interface. The PCs can "talk" with NPCs, but the primary use for that is exposition, not really interaction. There's nothing like the conversation editor of NWN's Toolset for FF, with conversations that branch depending on variables and player response choices.

Of course, it would be possible to do something like that. The scripting features in FF would allow creation of a conversation class and conversation trees that allow for more RP in the game. It would take some organization to create a general template for it, but the programming needn't be overly complicated.
