Magneto looks kinda cool, odd costume though. I see what they're going for though.

Luxurious locks Xavier is saying "Ow! Migraine!"

BTW: Vaughn is incorrect..The original uniforms (not costumes) are black and yellow, not blue and yellow....And he calls himself a fan?

ALSO:  Havok must not be Cyclops' brother in this film, then...If he is, then Alex has to be about 20 years older than Scott.  This also means that Beast is way, way older than the X-Men (Cyclops, Jean, Storm, etc...) in the original three films (well, except for Wolverine).

Y'know what? I have faith in Vaughn, I've been pretty skeptical of the movie so far but that hellfire club picture just made me think that it will be a pretty cool period piece. He said it was going to be like Casino Royale, but maybe that's just code that it will be like Layer Cake, which i think is one of the coolest movies I've ever seen.

Hopefully the 60's gear they are wearing and acting like will remind me of the comics when the original five are hanging out in new York in their civvies.... Like that issue when they meet morbius, or the recent spiderman and the xmen series set in the 60s.

After x3 and Wolverine I think Fox may be actively trying to make up for past mistakes with Vaughn on xmen and aranofsky on wolverine 2

I think he was comparing it to Casino Royal in that it will be a reboot (a "soft" reboot, but still a reboot).  I, personally would rather they "hard" rebooted the franchise and started with the actual original 5 X-Men.

Dana

P.S.  I still happen to think an original X-Men (teens led by Xavier) TV series (in the style of Smallville) would be fantastic.

detourne_me

Oh yeah, that's quite apparent, I'm just projecting my own desires upon his words.
A tried and true tradition in fan circles I believe :P

LOL...I get ya.

The other article...

http://blog.newsarama.com/2011/01/19/three-new-stills-from-x-men-first-class/

Claims they are "still shooting" the film, that doesn't sound good...Does "still shooting" translate to doing re-shoots?  Re-shoots don't usually indicate a good film is on the way, do they?...I thought they usually indicated there are problems.

Maybe Kevin Costner had a cameo appearance and they had to make sure his hairline was - okay, this joke is 15 years old.

Given what a far flung and not always good separate universe the X-Men movies have been, I'm strangely cool with this. You know, unless the first trailer comes out and it looks totally like "high school musical" with mutants or something.

Mr. Hamrick

Quote"It starts in 1942, and then works its way up to 1962. There are a lot of nods to the X-Men world and the X-Men movies, but it's definitely its own beast."

Vaughn is aware that, no matter what he does, the film may anger diehard fans: "Yeah, but I could tell those fans that they're wrong. One thing about the X-Men world is that, if you know your X-Men universe, every writer reinvented the storyline. I did my research, and none of the histories of the characters make any sense. Each writer just totally changed the history to make their plot work. So I can quite safely say that X-Men has a history of reinventing its history for the sake of the plot."

Hmm... not sure what I think about the intentional effort to tie its continuity to the first film.

This........actually looks decent...I'm not quite sure what to think.

Same. The Magneto helmet in the released photo looks kind of weird, and crooked.

I think we can all agree this looks considerably better than Wolverine! ;)

As a prequel to both Singer's X-Men films it looks like it might have a pretty good chance just on the trailer alone. Sure there is some glaring errors trying to wedge it into continuity with Fox's mess of a X-Men franchise including X-Men 3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. They definitely have proven to me that the old school yellow and dark blue/black uniforms could have actually worked in the earlier films with the right costume designers behind it. Beast looks interesting since he gets his transformation during the course of the film and Magneto really stands out at being a real highlight as he fully understands his true place in mutant kind.

I will go see it in the theaters just for the sake of hoping it might finally be a worthy installment to pay full price for once again.

If it fails and the Deadpool spin-off along with The Wolverine doesn't look a possible option to save the mutant franchise.. then I expect FOX will finally release their rights and Disney/Marvel will quickly move in and take their chance in getting it rebooted once their Avengers franchise is standing on it's own without needing someone to hold it's hand.

Ok, I'll see it. I'll enjoy it and then complain about it probably.

While I wish that were true, it's unlikely.  Even after a run of bad/poorly-performing movies, why would Fox give up a property that may yet make them money to give a competitor the opportunity to make money with that property?

The only way Marvel is getting the X-men film rights back is if they buy them back - something I hope they'll eventually do.

lol, it's good to see some honest fans!

I really do like the visual style from what I've seen in the trailer.

However, here is a quote from Matthew Vaughn:
"It's got a lot of teenage angst. The 'Twilight' girls will like it."

Umm... uh oh? :banghead:

BWPS

Wow. He's just horrible at interviews, stop interviewing him, everyone. Twilight and X-men do have some similar appeal, one is just the most horrible thing ever that girls love because they're insecure and wish they were special, and the other is one of the best things ever that both boys and girls love because they're insecure and wish they were special.

 Seen the traler, not sure what to think about it. Looks like they're going to turn this x men in some sort of special task force against the cuba missile crisis. That raises a lot of question, especially toward continuity (how the hell does the government "forget" the mutants exist for almost 20 years? and no memory wipe, X would never agree)
So magneto and xavier are probably gonna get some serious character development, wich is probably the one thing that i look forward to in this movie (seeing them going from firends to foe, X learning to use his powers responsibly, etc)
On the other hand we have Azazel or whatever is his name. So he's probably gonna be confirmed as Nightcrawler's father (since he looks just like him and has the same powers), and i would like to forget this ever happened in the comics.
Overall it looks like it could be a decent action flick, and if i watch only the part where Xavier and Magneto interract, i think i could enjoy it (i somehow have faith in both actors to do something good with their character)
