Yep, I'm okay with this.  The previous films were mediocre at best, and their telling of the Galactus story was downright pitiful.

Characters are mediocre. That's why the movies were mediocre. Theres better versions of all of them in the Marvel Universe.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

*Shrug* I love the characters, especially the lates Lee-Kirby era.  They made them interesting, dynamic, and fun.

Heh.  I caught the last paragraph in that article.  Fox has to continue to make FF and X-Man movies or lose the rights.

They know if they lose the rights they'll never get them back.

So I'd expect to see movies "in development" whether or not they actually make it to the silver screen.

That's the reason for the never released FF game.  That company had to make a movie or lose the rights, so they did, then charged Fox a hefty fee to not have their lower quality movie competing with the new one.

This is the reason Fox will never stop making Fantastic 4 and X-Men movies, no matter how terrible - if they stop, the license reverts to Marvel.

I hope they at least keep Jessica Alba.  The rest of them can be changed.

She's pretty, but she's no Sue Storm. :P

I thought the guy who played the Thing was good. I can't think of anyone to replace him.

The guy who played Human Torch was really good. As was Michael Chicklis as Ben Grimm. I also didn't mind Julian McMahon as Dr Doom.

But The Thing looked crap, Mr Fantastic's effects looked crap, and Jessica Alba is a weak actress. Plus, the scripts were terrrrrrible.

No it wasn't a reboot, because as I explained, and as your link also explained, the movie was never meant to be ever released.  It was made for two purposes--1 to keep the license so they could then sell it to someone else and 2 to sell the the company who acquired the license so a bad movie wouldn't ruin their new franchise.  It worked perfectly, they sold the rights to F4 for a profit and sold the movie for a profit as well.

In other words it was a kind of blackmail.  Pay us extra or we'll release this very bad film to mess up any chances you have for making money on this.  Of course that was before the Incredible Hulk film proved that a movie based on a character already done recently in a poorly made movie can still make money and go on to great acclaim.

No, i knew it was a placeholder, i just always thought of it as a reboot. Especially since this was at one point a real film. It was definately interesting though.  :)

I watched a good bit of it on youtube, I kinda liked it. The effects were dated but the acting was okay and Doom was way cooler.

It's not a great movie by any means, but it does have a certain charm. As a friend of mine put it, your heart just goes out to the actors and crew, because they look like they're really trying their best within the tiny budget they had, unaware that they're just pawns in a big scam. I loved the actress playing Sue, she was just dead on.

It's better than the Captain America movie that actually DID get released.....

When they reboot this, I hope they remember that the Thing was a tradgic figure for years.  By "Rise" he seemed at peace with himself.  Ridiculous!  And it's outrageous that Disney was able to do more with basically the same FF powers in the Incredibles than the FF could do in theirs.     Reed in particular was no Mr. Fantastic in any sense of the word.   (And Sue and Johnny should at least look like they came out of the same parents.)

That's actually true.  They believed it was a real movie.  In fact, I remember a make of special on one of the big name entertainment shows at the time.  Even the media thought it was real.  The fact it wasn't was kept a deep, dark secret.

I actually liked it. The action was a little light but what it had was good. I found the characters spot on with early FF except for Sue who was pretty boring at first anyway. Doom was bad but the the FF themselves were great.

Honestly,

I'm probably in the minority, but I actually liked Story's Fantastic Four.  I could get over Alba being an unnatural blonde, noticably latina Sue Storm.  And despite him totally wrecking Galactus to something even worse than the Ultimate version, he did really well with the Silver Surfer and with Dr. Doom storyline.  I also didn't mind the changing of the orgin and acutally doing something that would make sense nowadays.(how else would you supposed to get a group of family and friends on a spaceship by themselves?)  As far as the Thing is concerned, not only did Michael Chiklis do a wonderful job, I didn't mind the costuming... yes, he looked better than the 1994 version.  Another thing I liked was the characterizations.  I think they did a wonderful job of portraying the four(five) in both movies.  They showed Ben's frustrations with being the Thing(and not being the thing), they showed Sue's frustrations at relationship struggles.  They did Johnny's fast and loose lifestyle again, I thought was good.  And, as hard as it is to get a character named Dr. Victor Von Doom to be even imagined in a real world, I think they did the best they could.  Being described as strip mall science.  I also liked the way the character looked... in both movies really.  In first, he didn't have a cape, but he wasn't wearing a toga either.  And in the 2nd, I think they improved on both and Doom looked really good.

I know I've said a lot, but maybe it's just my opinion, however I don't believe a reboot is warrented, especially since the last one was released a few years ago.  Give it another four or five years...  Unless of course, it's being tied to the other Marvel movies being done, something I've longed to see for years now... and of course by time their done with all of the particulars and filmed and released it, it probably will be about 3-4 years....

Okay, I think I'm okay with it now.
