I think there was a thread on this cartoon before the board purge, so I thought I'd start a new one.

After hearing how bad the Clone Wars CGI movie was, I'd avoided the new cartoon assuming it would be more of the same.  Now, most of the season in, I'd heard that the show was actually pretty good, and decided to check it out.

At first, it grated a little.  Asoka, Anakin's apprentice, bugs me a little bit, but her annoyance seems to be getting less as the series progresses.  Jar Jar is still terrible, but he's not a big part of many episodes.  Dialogue is sometimes painful, and characters occasionally make boneheaded decisions, but it's got its moments, and definitely seems to have improved over the course of the season.

But, given that we know the outcome with Episode III, it raises some somewhat disturbing issues - ones I doubt the show will ever deal with, but still.  For instance, what happens to Asoka?  Well, I guess she gets killed by the clones or by Anakin, which is kind of a downer.

And all those clone troopers, that the show has gone to some lengths to give unique personalities, make them more than faceless soldiers, and show the jedi as compassionate towards them, well, the jedi getting shot down at their hands without a second thought sour this viewer on them more than a little.

Anybody else watching this show and having similar thoughts?

Yeah when I heard the movie was reviewing so poorly I thought the show would do the same.
I started watching, hadn't seen the movie yet, and felt the show was mostly meh until the one about the clone troopers fighting the commando droids. That one was great and I've been enjoying the show alot more since.

I've seen the movie by now and actually it wasn't bad, it's certainly not a good theatrical movie, but if it had been the first episodes it would have came out better I think. The opening battle sequence was good, but then you get to the hutt stuff - bleh.

My biggest complaint with the show is that it takes place in a part of continuity where virtually nothing can actually happen. We know how the clone wars end, we know the majority of the characters fates, so the whole thing lacks a real impact. If this had come out before Revenge of the Sith, involved more original characters, or taken place in a different time period the show would have been more free to actually do stuff. And I'd have enjoyed that more.
