Hazmat from the new title Avengers Academy.
Avengers Academy is a great book that I highly recommend to everyone. Hazmat is one of the students being taught by the Avengers led by Hank Pym. She has toxic powers that confine her to a containment suit. I find most of the kids have somewhat dull designs but Hazmat's I like. With Hazmat skinned that makes 2 of the 6 kids skinned as Sioux City Dynamo skinned Finesse a while back. I do have interest in skinning the other kids but with my skinning time quite limited I'll probably spend my time on other characters.
A while back Tomato offered to create a mesh part for me. I sent him a short list of things I wanted and was pleasantly surprised when he offered to do three of them including Hazmat's helmet. The other two were the released Anole and previewed Surge. Hazmat has been half done for a long long time but I finally finished her up. The helmet was quite easy to skin so kudos to the great Tomato. He also sent me a great Scott Lang helmet and I plan to work on him and finish Surge in the near future.
Other than that I'd like to do something DC commemorate the end of the old continuity and start of the Reboot. We'll see...
Not being up on current continuity, I'm not familiar with the character, but the skin turned out really well. Her eyes in particular turned out really nice.

The Rat King of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, specifically the original cartoon.
So I received a PM from Benton Grey on Saturday asking if I'd skin the Rat King. I rarely take requests, but he just happened to message me at the right time as I'd earmarked this weekend for skinning so I was in the mood. The Rat King looked pretty easy, and I was a huge Turtles fan when I was a kid. Plus Benton has earned some points from me for being one of the most active people in our shrinking community. So yeah that's how I ended up skinning the Rat King. Came together really fast too, I skinned all of him in one day, really rare for me these days.

I keep wanting to skin Karai for him, but can never build up the motivation to skope her. Karai was one of my favorite parts of the 2003 cartoon.

Pod, I'm always a fan of your work, but like I told you via PM, the Rat King is one of my absolute favorite characters from TMNT, and it is a huge thrill for me to see him in the game. The skin itself is excellent, with really great work on the bandages on his face.
These two other ladies you've skinned I don't recognize. They're both nicely done though. Is Hazmat a skope? How did you do that? The Omega Sentinel girl has a really distinct face. Great work on that.

What can I say? Batman is one of my favorite comic characters, and this skin represents my favorite costume design for him (The blue version is fine too).
I've been working on a new set of six characters. I'm getting through them at a good pace but it'll probably still be a while before my next preview.

Batman - Dick Grayson
The first adopted child of Bruce Wayne. I'm a big fan of Dick, as I imagine most here are. I believe this is the first skin of Dick as Batman. I enjoyed his stint as Batman, obviously it had to end eventually but it was fun.
I wish the belt buckle could have been more accurate. Does anyone know of a mesh part that looks like this?

Robin - Damian Wayne
The only biological child of Bruce, Damian is the fifth Robin. Damian is an arrogant little brat, and recently I've come to really love him. He's so different from the rest of the Bat team and he interactions with him are so much fun.
I did my best but if anyone has some tips for adjusting the skope for child size please let me know.
Batman - Bruce Wayne
Here we have Bruce in his Batman Incorporated costume. I kinda like the Incorporated idea, but it does pull the Batman books away from Gotham and the core cast more than I'd like. I haven't read the book yet though, waiting for the trade to come out. To me he competes with Spider-Man for best comic character.
Red Robin - Tim Drake
Tim was adopted by Bruce after his father died. This is Tim in his second Red Robin costume. I really prefer the second costume, it's more modern and helped make the Red Robin Tim's own. Tim is one of my 3 favorite DC characters, the other two being Bruce and Cass. This will not be the last time I skin Tim.
Blackbat - Cassandra Cain
Just a few months ago Cassandra Cain came out of limbo with a new identity of Blackbat. I still doesn't feel right that she's not Batgirl but the new name/costume is alright. Now she just needs to get into the Reboot books. Cassandra was adopted just prior to Batman's "death" during Final Crisis.
Red Hood - Jason Todd
Bruce's second ward, the second Robin who died and then came back to become the Red Hood. I'm not really a big fan of Jason, and it was kinda stupid the way they brought him back, but I do see some potential for him. I like this costume, it's more Jason's style than the caped dome look he had in Morrison's arc, but more superhero-y than his first look. His new reboot look is similar but on the dull side.
I'd been planning to do this set for a long time, and I'm very happy to have finished it, but this certainly won't be my last trip to Gotham.

Loving these skins man. About the only real nitpicks I have are Bruce's logo being a tad smallish (the logo is almost smaller than tim's, and it shouldn't be) and the colors being a touch bright for my personal taste... but then, I feel the same way about most of C6's stuff, so it's really a personal preference thing than anything else (I like dark colors. sue me)

With the power of skoping I can easily adjust that.
I tend to prefer bright colours in my art. Many of favorite art teams use brighter colours.

Pod, these are some great skins. I really like that first Batman on the left. I have to say, these new character designs that are minus trunks just look unfinished, but you've captured the new look very well. Your work on the seams helps the overall design.

Batman villains are great. I just finished paying Arkham City and am jonesin' for more.
Just going to throw this out there, but as far as villains go, you might wanna coordinate with TUE on the bat villains. See, I recently conned convinced him to do a bunch of Bat-villains, so I figure if you both team up and coordinate we might perhaps see them in a few months or something.
I'm going to guess most of the ones on my list aren't on his, but I'll check once I get to the point that I'm about to start.

Thanks to AA, who provided me his Spider-Man skope early.
Spinning out of the recent Spider Island storyline in Amazing Spider-Man, a new Scarlet Spider ongoing series starts next week starring Spider-Man's formerly degenerated clone Kaine. That's right, we now live in a world where Kaine has his own solo series - and I'm quite looking forward to it.
I can't say the Clone Saga is a good storyline, but Maximum Carnage #3 was the first comic I ever bought myself (though I didn't get into regular reading for another few years) so I've always had a soft spot for it and it's major characters. I've only read a bit of it but I've been remedying that by slowly picking up the Clone Saga trades that came out a while back.
With the Scarlet Spider I now sit at 393 skins, so the big 400 is in sight.
I'm debating running another skin poll. If I do it will be up soon.
That costume is... unfortunate. You did a nice job though, Canadian.
I heard that the "original version" release of the Clone Saga was better. DId you happen to read it, Poddymarkington?

At the very end of that storyline Kaine rose from the grave, mutated and now called the Tarantula. The Jackal found him and further mutated him into a nearly mindless man-spider. During the recent Spider Island storyline Kaine was restored back to human form and his degeneration was reversed. Peter and Kaine teamed up, and afterwards Kaine left New York with Peter's stealth suit.

Dude... no. In this case, annoying prem is not acceptable criteria for a vote. We can annoy prem any time... hell, we annoy prem by EXISTING. Like this one, Pod. Too bad Prof X was practically dropped off the face of the Earth once Carey finished with him. He was so much more likable during his tenure in legacy than he had been in decades. I'm kinda tired of the "Rogue's X-men/Rogue's trainees/Rogue's X-men" stuff going on with Legacy now because it's a book very much at the whim of the MANY X-events and nothing gets a chance to develop because most arcs are at least 3 issues long. It's unfortunate. Let me know how Gage's run goes. I hope he drops the uber Rogue focus as she's not a character I'm all that fond of any longer.

Well, the character design looks pretty cool to me. Besides, she's got these fairy/butterfly wings....and my niece just loves heroic characters with wings. (well nowadays...mostly the feather and angel-like wings but she liked fairy wings before...) :)

It was pretty much a landslide too. Can't say I'm surprised, I expected Batgirl to win. Hope I thought was a wild card, she'd either crash badly or her relevance might let her sneak a win. I didn't think Pixie had much of a chance, for a character that appears a lot she's not as memorable as she could be. Spider-Girl is the least relevant character so I didn't expect she'd do well unless we got a lot of voters who were unfamiliar with or didn't like the other characters.
So a worthy win for a great character and a great costume that I don't think has been skinned yet.
As for the others, they remain on my list so one day.
I have plans for more polls this year, they'll be a little different though.
Pod... you should have known better. If both Prem AND I agree on something, the cosmos is so disrupted by the insanity of that fact that it automatically bows to our will.
New Pixie would've been neat. I really like that they made her into this little Magik.

I definitely want to update Spoiler, both the skin and definitely the skope, but I'm not sure if it will be now. I also want to skin Robin too but that one will have to wait. Burned myself out of Bat stuff. But I should be picking up new Bat trades in a few months so we'll see.

Stephanie Brown, formerly Robin, formerly (and probably currently) Spoiler, and one time Batgirl.
So as you may know I am a huge Cassandra Cain fan, she is among my three favorite DC characters and among my favorite comic characters in general. And of course it's been frustrating to be a Cass fan as DC has really screwed around with her in the last few years. So of course I was weary of a new Batgirl, but when I learned it was Spoiler I found myself completely fine with it. I like Steph and she and Cass were friends, she'd want Steph to take over for her (literally that's how the scene plays out, Cass just hands over the costume - later retconed into Bruce's idea).
Of course now Barbara is Batgirl again <_<
Really glad you guys got me to skin Steph, I was all ready to move on from Bat characters but you pulled me in for one last job. It's a nice costume and surprising easy to skin.

A little further back I give some details on him. It's Kaine, one of the Spider clones from the Clone Saga. It is indeed part of the main Marvel world.

So is Colossus as Juggernaut a good idea? No, probably not, but I actually like it. Mostly because it's something interesting happening with Colossus, how often does that happen?
Huge thanks to Grenadier on this one. He provided a basic body Colossus for me to skope. So thank you Gren, I owe you one.
Now I debated whether to skin the Juggernaut form on the Colossus mesh or a Juggernaut sized mesh. I've found the comics inconsistent on whether he is bigger or not. For now I'm going with the Colossus body, I may change my mind.
When it comes to comic costumes I'm not huge on Piotr's. I find most of his costumes are very generic, it's just red and yellow. It looks okay but as a superhero it's kinda meh. There's a few costumes that I feel that way about.

A: Yes, there will be a March poll, another X-Men Schism choice. Haven't decided for sure which two characters it will be but I have my short list.

Jim Lee costume Colossus. Update of the old skin by myself and the late Matrix.
So last month was a no skin zone for me, a large chunk of it went to playing ME3. I've been working on Cannonball this past week and he's coming along very well, should be done by next weekend.
Probably the most memorable comic item from my childhood is those Jim Lee era costumes...well this universal one and the one's used in the original cartoon. Well done, Podalicious

His current Legacy costume. I'm building it on the Cannonball skope me and AA made a few years ago, included in the Carey skin in AA's section on HF.
So a little admission, I often lack artistic creativity. That's why I almost exclusively skin established costumes and why I've rarely participated in skinning challenges. So I'm not sure how likely I am to make a Marvel Legacy skin. I do like the series you started Murs, and I'll keep it in mind for the future.

When I was a kid, I drew a picture of a superhero I had created and named him something like cannonball. Imagine my surprise when that weekend we went to the store, and I found an action figure being sold there that was EXACTLY what I had drawn! Ha, I'm not sure how Marvel stole my idea, but shame on them, stealing from a little kid. :P

Nope I've never skinned that costume before. The two I might reskin are his costume from volume two of X-Force (old version on my section of HF) and the Mike Carey era costume (I don't think my version was ever released but I think I sent it to AA to help make his).

It's probably a decent jumping on point. I'm trying to think if there's anything you'd be lost on. The big one was something called One More Day but I'm willing to bet you've heard about that, otherwise Peter was dating a CSI name Carlie, Aunt May has married Jameson's father, and Jameson is now the mayor of New York. Thank you Pod. Ive heard many things about BND. None of them good. Pete makes a deal with Mephisto...blah blah blah. I knew about Jameson being the mayor of NYC. The rest I had no clue. I've heard nothing but good things about Slott's run but I just didnt know where to start. Guess I'll start with Spider-Island.
Spider-Island was amazing, a complete thrill throughout it. I also really recommend the arc before it called Big Time! and the current Ends ofthe Earth arc is really cool with spidey vs. the sinister six.
I have another question about Slott's run: Do the Fantastic Four frequent it a lot? I have very much enjoyed Spidey in FF.

There were a few issues a couple months back leading up to Ends of the Earth that had Pete and Johnny teaming up in space. they were cool.
I think Reed has made an appearance or two in the last few issues too,
They appear a fair bit, there was a set of 4 issues shortly after Johnny's death that were a FF team-up, and then is the Johnny/Spidey team up from a month or two ago that Detourne mentioned. Beyond that it's mostly small appearances such as Ben showing up as an Avenger in a couple storylines and Reed appearing as a scientist in Spider Island.
Sigh, my laptop is in the shop. Luckily backed up everything and I'm on my old desktop for the time being. This will probably slow down skinning for a while.

The mesh is an excellent Red Robin skope by detourne_me that I've modified, the same one used for my Red Robin skins that are up at Hero Force with a few more extras added on.
These look great Pod. I'm especially fond of Tim as Batman.
Those Robins are great. I like how the Batman really looks like a kid and not just a Batman on a smaller mesh.

I can probably fix it for you if necessary, but all you should need to do is right click the boot-cuffs then click mesh->face normals followed by mesh->smooth normals and use the default settings.
Thanks for the advice Tomato. I gave it a try but it didn't seem to improve anything. The default values were:
Max Smooth Angle: 60
Max Vertex Distance: 0.0010
Should I be using a different value?
Now I did play with the NiMaterial Property Emissive Color wheel first, a tip cmdrkoenig67 gave me. It improved things but as you can see above it's still off.
Did you do the "Face normals" first? face normals should make the mesh look blocky and silly, then you use smooth normals to smooth them back out.

Still haven't gotten around to finishing Hobgoblin. Pretty much lost all skinning interest during November, actually thought I might be done for a while, but the skinning bug struck back during December. I have some other stuff that's almost ready, so you should see more from me later this month.
I started writing a novel in November so most of my free time has gone towards that.

What a great job on Captain Marvel, Pod! I like that new costume, it's certainly more dignified and military than her original one. You know, it makes more sense as something Carol Danvers might want to wear. You've done an excellent job capturing it.
I like the costume too (except that stupid mask but that doesn't show up very often). The gloves and boots are over done but other than that I think it's fine. And making Carol the new Captain Marvel is a smart move for Marvel.
I don't have any issues with it, personally. I agree that the stupid mask doesn't make any sense, but other then that it's fine.
That said, I'll always prefer her black/yellow outfit, but that's just because I feel like it's more Carol and less homage-to-a-dead-alien-boyfriend. I'd be all over a more uniform-ish version of that costume.

When I first saw this costume in the Joe Quesada drawn Marvel Now teaser I hated it. Then when I saw Chris Bachalo (probably my favorite artist) draw it for the new Uncanny X-Men book I really came around to it.
Going to hold off releasing for a bit. I'd like to see Bachalo draw it some more to ensure accuracy.
Cyclops is my fav X-Man and I've really been enjoyed his story line from the past several years. Excited to see when Bendis takes him.
Definitely considering skinning the other Uncanny members. Just depends on finding the time. I might do some more Cyclops skins in the future as well. A Cyclops retrospective has been really tempting for a while.
Now on a different note, I'm looking for skoping help.

Y'know, as much as I railed against this when I first saw it, now that I've read Uncanny X-men and the events leading up to it, I actually really like it. My major issue with it going in was that that costume just doesn't feel like classic Cyclops, but the version that's presented in Uncanny and the events leading up to it isn't the Scott Summers of yore. He's a much darker character, more in line with Magneto at the height of his super-villainy. This costume reflects that, and feels more appropriate than having scott run around in his blue astonishing costume like he was in the opening issues of all new x-men.
That said, I love the skin, and I'm always down with having more X-men to play with.
That´s a very nice skin! I had the same reaction as you when I saw that first design, but it was growing on me after reading Uncanny (Bachalo's art probably helped to it). I think this new uniform fits the new revolutionary Cyclops.
I like it! I think the body is off tho. Looking at the art and styling maybe a more slender, dare I say weedier mesh might work better? I do LOVE the skin, so please don't kill me!

windblown, I'd like to thank you personally on two levels. One, skoping has become something that has really slowed me down in skinning, so having someone that is able to put together skopes like you have that are really inventive (the Elixir one is just too cool!) is a huge help. Secondly, you have reinvigorated me to get back to skinning the New X-Men, which are among my greatest loves in comics. I forsee the day when I hang up skinning coming in the future, and if I got to that point and had never finished skins like the one above I would always have regretted it. So once again thanks.
For those of you unfamiliar with Pixie, she is one of the many students that went to the Xavier school when the Morrison era started. Originally a background character, she rose to prominence at the tail end of the Yost and Kyle run of New X-Men, and then during her regular role in Fraction's Uncanny. Mostly known for being cute, her mutant powers include flight and hallucination causing pixie dust, while she also gained magic abilities similar to Magik including a soul dagger and a teleportation spell. Currently she resides at the Jean Grey School but isn't appearing in any book regularly.
Some house cleaning items:
Hobgoblin - still haven't updated the skope. On indefinite hold until I do that.
Cyclops - after the last issue of Uncanny X-Men I will be updating the skin to include some additional costume details. I hope to do so this week, so his release will be soon.
Also something I'm eagerly excited about is that this week's All New X-Men is supposed to debut new costumes for the time displaced X-Men. Good chance those will be added to my skinning list...unless they suck.
Prodigy will be appearing in the new Young Avengers book. He's a favorite of mine so expect some reskins of him in the near future to celebrate this.

This is his new costume from the current Uncanny X-Men series. I really like it. Tomato created the custom helmet, which makes the skin/skope look so much better, I can't thank you enough Tom.
Skinning Magneto is a career highlight for me. He's one of my favorite characters but I've never had a decent reason to skin him. I try not to duplicate characters that have already been done before unless I have decent reason, usually doing a set. Eventually I may skin more Magneto costumes.

Danger - She's not actually part of this current group, she left after they rescued Cyclops from prison. I do have some interest in skinning her, but I'm not sure where to start on the skope.

The skin is great. Really, I love the detail you put in, it's all crisp and clean and quite possibly some of your best work yet. About the only thing that nags at me, and I don't know why, is that collar... it's technically accurate to the design and it's skinned decently enough, but for some reason it just doesn't fit with the rest of the skin. It nags at me and I wish I could be more coherent as to why.

Hmm...I might fiddle with it, but I don't think there's alot I can do with the same piece. Let me know if you're able to narrow it down.
Whoa! That looks great!
Would it help to make the folds on the neck piece more pronounced? I apologize that I've only seen a few reference pics of the new costume, but it appears that there are multiple, prominent folds in the neck piece. I also know from experience that sometimes the mapping for skoped on pieces doesn't allow for a great amount of detail. Also, it appears that if the cape were lifted a notch or two, it may blend into the neck piece a little more and not look like it's a separate piece.
I will say, though, that I like this quite a bit. The skin honestly looks better than the reference pics I mentioned above.
I almost forgot. Have you seen the vxBaron_Blitzkrieg mesh? It has a cape style similar to the new Magneto, except that the collar doesn't go out to the shoulders like you need and the cape itself is a little on the thin side. The Nazi symbol is removable, by the way.

This is the costume they wore during Academy X as part of the Corsairs squad. Will be released in an all blue version as well as they were more commonly depicted.

The is a costume that they were sometimes drawn in (usually by Greg Land) while the X-Men stayed on Utopia. Personally I consider this costume to be Land being lazy but I threw it in because it was easy.

Lastly, I skinned them in a set of clothes they were very commonly drawn wearing. Usually I avoid skinning normal clothes but this was surprisingly fun. Having an outfit like this for the Cuckoos is appropriate as they are only rarely depicted in actual costumes.
Big thanks to Windblown for the very cool skope. If someone had told me beforehand that skoping three bodies onto one mesh was a good idea I probably would have rolled my eyes, but after seeing his skope I actually think it works really well for these characters. And if somebody really needs a single Cuckoo just open up NifSkope and hide the other two, problem solved.
Also notable, I created my own eyes for these skins. Usually I just modify the C6 base I use as needed. So that's pretty cool, should give me more flexibility.
I like the Cuckoos, they work best in a supporting role with the X-Men. This continues the collaboration between Windblown and myself, expect to see more of that. And due to recent X-Men events...

I decided against reskinning my Hellfire Sunspot because that would have been more complicated than I wanted to spend time on at this time.
In Young X-Men I thought that costume looked really bland but it's okay in my skin.
All of these are on Windblown's amazing Sunspot skope which changes normal to cloaked in darkness on specific animations.

You may remember that I've skinned Elixir before, but these updated skins take advantage of Windblown's new Elixir skope which includes an animation for switching to his black skinned death dealing attack form - which is the perfect way of handling that ability in game.
Brand new face and hair, the rest of the skins are largely the same.
Elixir is a favorite of mine, I hope he returns to the X-Books in the future.

Magneto is finally released.
I played with a couple different ideas for his scarf but decided to stick with the same part I'd been using. I did touch up the texture though. I'm very happy with the skin.

I was surprised they created another healer with Triage. Elixir was always problematic because he could heal any injury so they put him in a coma at least four times. It might be a long time before we see him in more than a cameo.

The New X-Men Trance, a mutant with the power of an astral form. Another character that the majority of you won't recognize, but she'd been largely a background character outside an arc or two of X-Men Legacy and couple other places. Three skins: her Paragons training squad outfit, her New X-Men uniform as depicted in X-Men First to Last, and her astral form. I'm was reallly pleased with her Paragons skin, probably one of my favorite skins in recent memory.
The skope of course is by the one of a kind WindBlown.

Wind Dancer was a mutant with control of the wind. She was a main character in New X-Men until her depowering following House of M. Afterwards she became a New Warrior with tech based powers under the name Renascence. Maybe one day I'll skin that look too.
Wind Dancer is on a skope by Windblown and I understand she is one of his favorites. So thank you again and I hope you enjoy the skin.
Took a break from skinning this past week to play The Last Of Us (great game, highly recommended), but I'll be back to skinning now. I hope to release Trance and Wind Dancer this weekend. Next skins will probably be Mercury and Rocket Raccoon.

Mercury of the New X-Men, on a simply amazing skope by Windblown. Seriously this skope has a whole bunch of super cool T1000-esque moves.
First two are reskins, and the last one is a new skin.
The last few weeks have been quite busy with non-skinning things, but they've finally settled down. The most relevant bit is that I now have a new desktop computer replacing my 4 year old laptop. Along with it I picked up two monitors which will help with skinning as I can have ref pics or nifskope on one side and skin on the other.
Read the latest Young Avengers today and my favorite New X-Men David Alleyne aka Prodigy joined the team in that issue. Quite the accomplishment for a character I was worried would be stuck in limbo for the rest of his existence. I'm enjoying the series so far, especially Kid Loki, and David is handled pretty well in it. So expect some new and updated Prodigy skins in the near future, and maybe even of his new friends too :cool:

Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Fan favorite members of the modern Guardians of the Galaxy, and soon to be stars of the upcoming film of the same name (voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel respectively).
These were a challenging set of skins. Rocket because he was a small raccoon and had tons of extras to skin, Groot because he was based on the Ent mesh which is mirrored and tricky to skin, and I couldn't figure out how to skope on any extras. I was also very busy with non-skinning things so this set just took forever to complete. I'm very happy that these two are now part of Freedom Force, I'd been wanting to skin them for a long time.
When I was first reading Annihilation Conquest I thought both of these characters were pretty dumb, particularly Rocket. And when the lineup for the spinoff book Guardians was announced and those two were on it I was pretty disappointed. But a funny thing happened along the way and I became big fans of the two of them, especially Groot. Along with Starlord those two are the essential Guardians of the Galaxy for me.
Windblown has been sending me tons of great stuff so back to skinning for me.

I really like the way Groot looks Pod, and above all I do like Rocket Raccoon who you just finally released while I was waiting patiently for him to arrive which I really like plus I also like the three costumes that are included with him which I so admire big-time with all my heart :wub:, and above all I was hoping to play with them on one of my versions of :ff: depending on if these two characters aka Groot and Rocket Raccoon themselves are for either :ff: or :ffvstr: Pod. I wonder if you had just released them or they're just previews for us to expect the arrival of these two Guardians of the Galaxy so that we can download them, or did they just arrive for us so that we can download them and play with them in the DANGER ROOM for us to enjoy. I'm glad you're showing us the final product version of the two Guardians of the Galaxy known as Groot and Rocket Raccoon, and again Pod I do really like them very much. This is the newest Captain Universe, a recent recruit of the Avengers over in the current run by writer Jonathan Hickman. She's a curious character. A heavily traumatized woman playing host to the personification of the universe, incredibly powerful, and one of those characters that knows more than she's saying. Kinda reminds me of Drusilla from Buffy. An interesting character with a nice design.
I actually did this skin ages ago. It was going to be part of a set, but I never finished it. With Infinity going on I thought it was finally time to show it off.
Pod, Rocket Raccoon turned out just fantastic. That looks to be a great skope by DM as well. You just keep getting better and better.

Hmm, I think I could swing that. Artists draw Rocket differently. My version is based on Timothy Green III's art from the Rocket Raccoon and Groot backups in the Annihilators minis. I liked how he looked in that one.

Sorry forgot to answer this one. The answer is...I'm not sure :unsure: . Detourne_Me sent me the RR skope and Groot is just on the Ent mesh. I don't have :ff: installed anymore so I can't really test.

Rocket with red eyes. I'll include it as an alternate tga. You'll just have to rename it.
I really like the alternate version of Rocket Raccoon with the red eyes in the form of the alternate tga Pod :thumbup:, and above all it looks like he's about to express his rage judging by those red eyes upon attacking his enemies with that look plus it does look like your avatar picture as well ^_^. So far so good Pod :D, you did a great job adding along with including an alternate tga possibly with the other ones as well and also I do hope that the finished versions of Rocket Raccoon (RR) himself along with Groot will be up for grabs in the form of a download when they arrive in the form of a release together Pod :lol:. Hey great job on these latest skins of yours Podmark. Rocket Raccoon must have been very hard to do.. :)
Way back in December and January I was working on a couple of skin sets. I got busy with other skins so it took some time to finish them, but I completed one of them this week. I give you my Electro retrospective:

First is the classic Electro costume. It's a goofy look but probably his best costume. Electro is one of those villains who works alright as a mook but isn't all that interesting in of himself, at least that way he's always come off to me. Good for filler in a Sinister Six.
Next is the blue/white costume that I think was designed by John Bryne for Spider-Man Chapter One. When I first saw it it was in a comic by John Romita Jr and it looked awesome. This was near when I first started reading comics regularly and as I saw more images of it I've come to see it as kinda terrible. It's very bland and generic. I'm not against the idea of a different colour scheme for Electro, and blue and white are a good fit for him, but this costume needs a little something more.
This is the third time I've skinned this version.
The third costume here was worn during the opening arc of New Avengers volume 1 by David Finch. I appreciate trying to do something new with his costume but like the Bryne costume this one is too simple and boring.
Fourth is the costume from Mark Miller's run on Marvel Knights Spider-Man designed by Terry Dodson. I like this one, the tech looking boots and gauntlets add some visual interest to the costume and the darker green looks nice. However this look was maddeningly inconsistent. Every shot of the gauntlets and boots was either too vague, far away, or different looking. I mostly just made up the design for my skin. Dodson is really bad for that - not an artist I like to use for reference pictures.
This was the skin that was holding up this set. For a long time I wasn't sure if I was going to do it or not. I was iffy on how to do the gauntlets and whether they needed skoped parts or not but ultimately decided to skin them on.
Next we have the current costume, first created for The Gauntlet arc with art by Paul Azaceta. This one just doesn't work for me. Just seems like a bit of a mis-mash of elements and looks too much like clothes. Also the star on his head just confused me. Is it a tattoo? A scar? Part of the costume? I don't know. Some artists do make this look pretty decent but that is true for almost every costume.
I do really like the little lightning bolt cut into the collar. That's neat.
And the last skin from the mainstream set is the Anti-Matter version depicted briefly in a recent issue of Avenging Spider-Man with art by Marco Checchetto. It looked kinda cool in his art, but it's nothing special, just created for a specific scene when Electro got a temporary power up to fight Thor. I did this skin on a lark. The form will probably never be used again in the comics but it was really easy to put together. This was the last skin created for this set.
Lastly we have the designs from the Ultimate universe. I've skinned both of these before. I kinda like the first design, but it really doesn't feel like Electro. I like the contrast of a dark costume with collar over the glowing orange face, and I like the lightning bolt cut of the suit. It's a little bland but otherwise I like it...but maybe not for Electro.
The second design is really just his full electric form, but artists started to use it exclusively for Electro as Ultimate Spider-Man went on. I don't have a problem with Electro having another form, but as his only look it's far too boring.
I did this set at a time when my skinning interest was at an all time low and I wanted something nice and simple to work on to try and get me back in the game. And as a bonus it included reskins (I'm always happy to bring older skins up to my current level), and it included the current costume as I'd been trying to put together a set of the newer villain looks.
These are really great Pod. I like the classic look best (although more from a Silver Age bias than anything else).
I sometimes wonder what the artists are thinking though. I mean if you want to put your own mark on a character, make it pop. Street clothes, or just changing the lightning bolt patterns seems a little lazy.
I like the blue and white as well but, like you say, it seems to be missing something.
Back to your work though, I think that you give the costumes a great look. You are a great skinner and I envy your ability. Thank you for all the great toys you have made, and continue to make, for these little games.

Nori Ashida is a Japanese mutant who absorbs electricity and discharges it as electrical blasts or super speed. She entered the Xavier school at the tail end of Morrison's run and has been with the X-Men ever since. She served as the leader if her squad during the Chris Yost and Craig Kyle written issues of New X-Men. Surge is one of my favorite characters among the teen X-Men. She has a really nice design and cool powers. Sadly she hasn't been used extensively since the New X-Men series ended.
This set is brought to you by Windblown who put together another of his awesome skopes. Also a big thanks to Tomato for modelling the hair used in the last two skins. He actually made that for me over a year ago but it wasn't until now that I was able to have a proper skope and finally finish the skins. It's great to be a community with helpful member like these two.

Doug Ramsey was brought back to life a few years ago in the Necrosha storyline. He'll be appearing in the upcoming All New X-Factor title.

It seems since his return his powers have evolved into a mix of Tao and Midnighter.
I would give him the following attributes...
- Battle Computer: He has the ability to read opponents' abilities and figure out how to defeat them.
- Danger Sense: To avoid attacks before they happen.
- Combat Skill: To show how he communicates body language in the field.
- Coordinator: He can unconsciously make logical jumps in combat situations to aid himself and his teammates.
For Power and Skills:
A couple of melees, a direct low mental blank (to calm opponents), a direct low berserk/rage (to anger opponents), a direct low hypnotize (to change an opponents mind), and a passive defense to avoid melee crushing and piercing attacks (again to aid in body language reading skills)
Loved the Cypher character when I was younger, very pleased to see this done. Great job guys.

Yeah that was the Necrosha tie-in issues of New Mutants, unless there's another one. It was very impressive.
The way he was resurrected was a combination of magic and the Transmode Virus. Following the event he no longer showed signs of the Transmode virus, though I've never been certain if he lost those abilities. It be have been the virus that made him so effective in combat. I was never certain and I haven't read much of the recent New Mutants run past Second Coming.

oh man, i'm getting a corrupted nif file... is it just me?
I just downloaded this, it downloaded fine, but would not install. I also tried to open the nif from the zip file (Which I do a lot) and got and an error messege stating that:
"Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created."
Sorry guys, give it another try. I've reuploaded the file and it's working for me so here's hoping.
Working now on CTool and Nifskope, for me at least. Crisp skin work there, Pod!

Eva Bell was the first of the New Xavier School students introduced. She has the power to create bubbles that freeze time. She's my favorite of the students mostly because she has a cool design, particularly the hair.
The skope is another of the great creations of Windblown, and includes some pretty cool hair.
I'm so glad to see her done. She is one of my fav new characters in comics.

First up Generation Hope and Wolverine And The X-Men regular Oya:

Idie is a teen mutant with the power of thermokinesis allowing her to project heat and cold. She was one of the five new mutants following Hope Summers arrival into the present, the first since the Scarlet Witch declared "No more mutants". She was part of Hope's team as the Five Lights in Generation Hope until the Schism between Cyclops' X-Men and Wolverine's, where she went with the latter to his newly opened Jean Grey School.
Idie comes from a village in Nigeria and she has a different perspective on things.

For a long time I wasn't sure how I was going to handle the students from Wolverine And The X-Men because they only wore school uniforms. Usually I don't skin civilian clothes but these kids just weren't getting cotumes so what to do? Finally Windblown made the choice for me with his Idie skope. So now I have a female Jean Grey School uniform, so might as well update my recent female JGS students:

I have to agree, that first costume for Oya...Just, WOW. I like the other uniforms as well, but that first costume is just...WOW.
I love your skinning work, Podmark, particularly their faces! I dunno if it's just me, but every one of the JGS students look wonderfully unique from each other. Someday I hope to that display that much detail when I skin stuff.

Pod, I know none of the characters at all, but your skins make them all look fantastic! The work you've done on their faces is particularly impressive, subtle, yet unique and with a 'youthful' look that seems perfect.

For those of you not in the know Evan's story begins in Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force. Clan Akkaba, the followers of big bad Apocalypse, resurrected their leader in the form of a young boy. Wolverine mobilized his black ops X-Force team to stop them by any means necessary, but when they reached this young Apocalypse they found they couldn't finish him, all except Fantomex who shot the boy in the head. However, Fantomex created a replacement clone Evan Sabahnur, and raised him in a virtual reality program with Clark Kent-esque parents. Fantomex belief was that the first kid Apocalypse had already been indoctrinated by Clan Akkaba, but Fantomex would make up for killing him by raising a good kid Apocalypse as a replacement.
Eventually Evan, code named Genesis, was released from his virtual life and sent to the Jean Grey School.
Evan story is that of nurture vs nature. Can a positive upbringing override the evil genes he was created from? Or is he destined to follow in Apocalypse's evil footsteps.
This is skin is the result of my continued partnership with Windblown as we strive to bring the teen X-Men to life in Freedom Force. This skope was actually made for my birthday back in January, so thanks very much WB, it was a very pleasant surprise.
Evan is probably my favorite of the Wolverine and the X-Men cast. He's a cool character and I can't wait to see how his story plays out.

Secondly, Kid Apocalypse looks fantastic, from the texture of the shorts to the expression on his face, extremely nice skin Pod.

Okay so it's just a recolour, but this is his new version of Magneto costume from his upcoming ongoing series. It's kinda cool. I might hold off releasing this until the series has actually been released and I've double checked the design.
It's a little odd how Bendis has been writing out his characters for ongoings lately. First Magneto and now
Spoiler
Cyclops in All-New X-Men, as was recently announced.
I like the idea of ongoings for these characters (especially Magneto) but I don't feel it was necessary to write them out of their team books (although ongoing often work best when that's their main book for appearances).
I didn't see this costume yet and I think it looks better in black. I like the details of his helmet. Nice skin!
I think that this is a first, but I'm going to have to disagree with LP here. The White Costume just seems a little more...ominous...maybe, there's just something about it that really stands out. Don't get me wrong though, your execution of the Black version is definitely very nice, but if I can't have my Classic Magneto, then I would prefer the White Costume instead. If this is for a new ongoing series, I think Marvel should have put a little more effort into the costume design than just a palette swap.
With my rant out of the way, I will say that your Skins are always very nice, very clean. The helmet, the eyes, it's the little details that you add that really make your Skins stand out.
That's great Pod, I even think that I like the costume better in your skin than in the previewed art.

This is Hellion, one of my favorite of the modern X-Men students, who has telekinetic powers. The above skins were all released before but these have been updated with new faces and hair.

This second set includes some new skins. In the story line Second Coming Hellion lost his hands in battle against an army of Nimrods. For a short period of time he went around with stumps until the Age of X story line where Legion used his powers to create an alternate reality. In this reality he had lost more of his arms but had gained floating robotic forearms that he controlled with his telekinesis. Following this story he retained these arms and the knowledge to control them into the regular reality - thus is his current status quo.
The length of these robotic arms and how much of his arms he lost has varied wildly since.
I LOVE that they gave him floating robot hands instead of just regular robotic hands. It's more unique and plays off his powers nicely.
Of course I couldn't have made these skins without the help of the amazing Windblown. Thanks again my friend.

Fun fact: Anole is now the CEO of Worthington Industries. I suspect he's more of a puppet for the X-Men.

This is Triage in his regular outfit, the New Xavier training garb, and his look from the No More Humans graphic novel.
Triage has the power to heal and even resurrect the dead (sometimes in a zombie like form). The one thing that kinda bugs me about the character is that his powers were very similar to another teen mutant, Elixir. Did we really need two? (and personally I find Elixir more interesting both visually and in story). Hard to get a bead on Triage as there hasn't been a ton of development on him since his introduction.
Had a really hard time pinning down what his lower half looked like for the first skin. Very inconsistent and poor shots of his lower half.

Today I bring you new skins that have been sitting on my hard drive for a looong time. I think it was two years ago that I started this set, it was back when Johnathan Hickman's Avengers run was just starting. I was pretty excited, a big team with interesting new members, and it was twice a month. I was toying with skinning the whole team but instead concentrated on the new characters. My Captain Universe has already been released but today I finally reveal my Smasher:

Isabel Kane (originally written as Dare) the first human member of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. I really like this character. The costume is nice and I love the idea of linking the Avengers and Shi'ar. Plus continuing the gag of dying Smasher's is priceless.
I've also including a second gold skin representing a recent storyline where she has become the Messenger of AIM, but I haven't read that story yet so I'm not quite sure what's going on there. Neat look though.
The big delay had to do with the skope. Originally I hoped to skope on all the little parts. She was sometimes drawn with intricate tech armor. But I burned out on skoping around that time and never finished the skin.

I decided to skin the other 5 Smashers! These aren't different costumes, each skin represents a different individual who served as Smasher. Isabel is Smasher 5 but there's a sixth Smasher now who appeared in a recent All New X-Men arc.
It's neat seeing the different looks this character has worn. I always find legacy characters interesting.
Up next should be Goldballs.

Pod, I absolutely LOVE all of these collections that you're skinning.
Most of the time, it's a visual learning experience because most of the time, I didn't know that each of these characters wore even half the number of costumes that you skin (or in this case, that there were so many characters taking the mantle of the same character :P)

Some bad news my power supply died on my desktop (WB it wasn't as fixed as I thought it was). Still under warranty so that good, but it's going to be a couple weeks. I really do love seeing collections of costumes and characters. I find it fascinating how creators have changed the designs and concepts over the years. Probably why I've been running the Costume Rating polls over in the polls section. Which you should all check out.

Regular computer is still down but my part should be in soon. Not quite sure why but the last couple of weeks I've had a lot of trouble getting things done. My time seemed reduced and everything seemed to take longer than usual, but I seem to be getting back into the swing of things. So hopefully more skinning this week.
Ahh, excellent work Pod! His face is perfect for that bitter and warped character. You can just see the anger in his face. :D
Nice job with the texture on his suit. Also, I like the way you made the nose curve downward. I'm thinking that you could add some shadowing on his chest just below the collar to give it a little more depth.

Good question! I'm a huge Spider-Man fan, he's hands down my favorite comic character, and I've had pretty much every Spidey villain and ally on my to do list for forever. This is a costume created by John Bryne for his First Chapter Spider-Man series that retold his origin (which I think is out of continuity), but he also used it in the regular Spider-Man issues he did with Howard Mackie. It's Vulture in an evening jacket...and I kinda like it. It's cheesy and not even close to a good costume, but I find it fitting for a old theif like Toomes.

I'm actually not very familiar with Warrior Woman, but I thought it be nice to create this skin for Gren since he's done so much for the community.
Still waiting on the part for my computer, might be a while. While I wait I'll continue on my Vulture skins, and maybe some other stuff. Recently created a pretty sweet Spider-Girl mesh so I might need to spend some time on that. Probably will post some requests soon for future projects.

He did, but I hear there was some kind of theft. He was a little upset about that so I guess he picked some new jewels to perk himself up. Very nice, very expensive.

This was Vulture's look during Dan Slott's Spider-Man run. It's kinda plain but I really liked the way Vulture was used during that time. He was running a gang of teens and children using his tech for robberies, and additionally he'd stopped using his wings and instead was fully using the gravity tech he'd developed. This made him far more formidable. It is my favorite version of Vulture.

As I understand it the Vulture in the show was supposed to be Drago. Not quite sure which came first, though. Release dates were close and shows tend to have longer lead times, at least they do today.

First Prodigy of the New X-Men and Young Avengers. First three skins are updates and the last two are new.
Prodigy is a former mutant who gained the skills and knowledge of anyone he was in close proximity to. Essentially he's an omni-skilled genius. Currently he serves as a member of the Young Avengers.
Prodigy is my favourite member of the New X-Men. I just found he was an easy character for me to relate to.

Next we have Armor, a mutant able to project an armored shell around herself that she can fight with.
The first skin above is a school squad outfit that briefly appeared in an X-Men (there's an interesting chronology trivial related to it). Then there's my reskin of first Astonishing X-Men costume. The next four are new including her version of the New X-Men and School uniforms. Early in her career the colour of her armor changed for reasons I no longer remember.
Both of these are on pitch perfect skopes by Windblown. Take a bow my friend.
WB has been dropping some amazing mutant skopes my way (which you can see in the Hex Editing section), so I'll be working on those next. Vulture is on hold for now, but I'm sure you'll see him taking to the skies in due time.

So awesome. To be honest your Wolverine is still my favorite skin set to date and one the most inspiring works to me personally. I can honestly say much of what I do came from just observing how you pulled that one off. And there's always excitement whenever windblown has a release forthcoming though I'm sure that's a given for anyone here.
Thanks, Wolverine was a bit of a turning point for me. But Detourne_Me deserves credit there too. He helped inspire my All-In-One approach.

New preview today. Once again thanks to the efforts of Windblown and this time thanks to SickAlice I give you the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles villain Oroku Karai:

The first costume belongs to the current IDW comic version of Karai. In that story Karai is the grand daughter of the Shredder and the chunin of this Foot army. I really loved the new design for her and Shredder in the new comic, seeing them helped me get into the book - and it's a great book, probably my favourite version of TMNT, blending all the previous versions with some cool new stuff. Great stuff highly recommended.
The next 3 are all from the 4Kids cartoon that started in 2003. That cartoon really got me back into the Turtles, prior to that I'd kind of wrote them off as something that was part of my youth with limited interest to my older self, but that cartoon made me a fan all over again. It also introduced me to Karai, one of my favourite characters in the series now. In this version Karai is the adopted daughter of the Utrom Shredder. Her loyalties to him eventually waver and she ultimately teams up with the Turtles. The first image is her first outfit, then her outfit designed for the Back to the Sewers iteration (though almost only seen in the Turtles Forever film) and lastly the dress she wore to April and Casey's wedding at the end of the series.
This has been in the works for a long time. I was working on the skope for the IDW version, trying to create a mesh with dual swords and a bow, eventually Windblown stepped - for a character I don't think he even knew(!) - and delivered this awesome skope. Ohh, awesome Pod! The various Karais look great! Clearly, I'm going to have to one of them into my TMNT mod. I agree about the IDW version. They really have created the definitive version of the TMNT, for my money. I'm just hoping we'll see a few more of the Mutanimals and other characters from the Archie books.

Today I bring you the Proto-Goblin, a one shot villain created by Norman Osborn in a later retcon story before he became the Green Goblin.
I actually made this skin a while ago as the start of a planned Goblin set, but I never followed through with the set. I felt now was a good time to finally let the public have it.
I hoping to debut a new skin each week of October, with something seasonally relevant at the end (assuming I finish it on time).
I like the tone of red and the face is cool! The nose looks great.
I thought he was Trigon for a second! I think it's because the eyes seem a little elevated?
Not familiar with the Character, but like LP said, great Colors, and the I love how the Eyes turned out.

Tag had a psychic power to "tag" people on contact, causing those around them to either chase them or run from them. He was a member of the Hellions training squad until he was depowered and soon after killed in an attack.

For this week it's time for another mutant collaboration from Pod and Windblown! Today's offering is Jay Guthrie aka Icarus:

Jay is the brother of Cannonball and Husk with mutant powers including wings, a healing factor, and an enhanced voice. Jay was originally with the Hellions training squad before switching to the New Mutants squad early in the series. Sadly he was killed shortly after M-Day.
Of note with this skope is the guitar. The animations for it are seamless, kudos to Windblown.
Proto-Goblin was released on the weekend. I started a new thread in the release forum. I always felt weird doing short "x is released" posts here so I'll do them there now. Tag should be out this weekend.
For those following along, SickAlice has sent me the Alopex mesh, it is very nice, looking forward to skinning it. No timetable.

Kevin Ford gained the mutant power to decay any living tissue he touches, leading to the accidental death of his father. He was taken to the X-Men's school and assigned to the New Mutants training squad until he found a better fit with the Hellions. Eventually he left the school and fell in league with Selene. He died fighting against the X-Men.
Skope is by Windblown and it has a really cool animation for removing his glove.
I have a Halloween related skin I'm hoping to debut next week, but I haven't finished it yet so we'll see.

Two skins of the Spider-Man foe Jack O'Lantern.
First the original, Jason Philip Macendale, more commonly known as the second (more or less) Hobgoblin. This is a costume that I've always thought looked pretty neat. Good colour balance and design elements, and the skins and meshes I'd seen of the character didn't quite capture the art of Jack O'Lantern I was familiar with. I first started this skope over a year ago, but didn't start skinning him until now.
Next is the third Jack O'Lantern also known as Mad Jack, an identity shared by Daniel Berkhart (the second Mysterio) and Maguire Beck (cousin of the first Mysterio). Mad Jack wore a similiar costume with a few modificantions that I tried to capture here. I wanted to make sure both faces were unique, and thankfully the reference art for both was quite different. Mad Jack was the first Jack O'Lantern I'd encountered while reading comics.
I still need to skin the gliders so release might not be next weekend.
I've stated before that skinning Spidey Rogues is a goal of mine. I've tackled others like Electro before and now I'm knocking off a couple Jack O'Lanterns. I might skin the others one day. I particularly find legacy villains interesting, seeing how they approach the identity, their motivations, and what visual changes they bring.
Well I hope you enjoyed the 5 weeks and 5 skins of October. I've got some more stuff in the pipeline (Wallflower, Pod, Alopex) so I'll be back with new stuff soon enough.
This is too awesome Pod. Jack O' Lantern was always a favorite of mine when it came to Spidey Villains, so I'm very happy to see this. :thumbup:
Both Jack O' Lanterns look great Pod, I especially like the first one, but it's very nice that you bothered to make the faces so different. That's one of the things that I like the most of your skins, every character is special and has its own personality on them.

I'm loving these Jack O' Lanterns! I think the black outlines on the first one, and the impression of shadows in the mouth area, make the first one a better design. Both are solid skins, tho.

I don't have anything planned for Peter right now. A number of other creators have tackled most of his looks and if there's something in particular you're looking for let us know, I'm sure we can help you find it.
Peter is one of my favourite characters so there's always the possibility of me skinning him down the line.
There are lots of Spidey characters I certainly want to do when I find some time.

Includes an alternate skin based on a different artist's version of her outfit.
Laurie Collins was a mutant who could influence others using her pheromones. At her ultimate potential this essentially allowed her to control everyone around her and fear of this ability led her to be assassinated by the Purifiers shortly after M-Day.

I've been wanting to create a new preview pic design for a while, I figured a new year was a good time to do so. I felt my old preview images were too small, they were designed when I mostly used a 16 inch laptop as my main display (to be honest I might have gone a little too big with these new ones). Admittedly, I'm not the most creative artist, but I think the new designs came out well.
A while back Detourne_Me contacted me with a new Ant-Man/Giant-Man skope he'd cooked up. It has the ability to shrink and grow (switching to Giant-Man in the process), ride on a flying Ant for Fly, and can even pull out some high tech ray guns. It's a pretty cool skope and he asked me to release it so I've updated my Hank Pym skins and should release this weekend:

Big thanks to Windblown who wiped this skope up pretty quickly after a request on the forum. I've been pretty excited about skinning this version of Laura, it's a big step for the character. The costume is a good design for Logan's legacy. I haven't tried her new book yet but from what I've heard it seems interesting.

This is actually Pod, a character introduced in Jonathan Hickman's Avengers run and currently appearing in Al Ewing's New Avengers. In Hickman's run an alien was hurling "Origin Bombs" onto Earth. Where they landed they would radically change the people and landscape. When one hit in Finland it trapped a young woman, Aikku, inside an advanced armor - a planetary defense mechanism. The armor is adaptive and can adjust to counter whatever threat it's faced with. It's shown abilities such as flight, strength, and energy projection.
There's a funny story to me learning about this character. I originally read Hickman's run up to Infinity then stopped as I was trying to reduce the number of books I was buying - I intended to pick the series up later on (still in the process of that). Anyway Pod had appeared in the issues I read but she wasn't named at that time and was an enemy in her debut issues - a mysterious "robot" sent by AIM. I forgot all about it. Later on I was looking up the Avengers roster on a wiki and saw "Pod" as a recent recruit and I jokingly said to myself "When did I join the Avengers?". Then after I looked deeper I was like "Wait, that robot joined the Avengers?! What?". Once I read more I've found Pod is actually a pretty interesting character and I'm really happy Ewing is using her in his book.
Pod was designed by Stefano Casseli, one of my favourite artists.
Big thanks to SickAlice for building the mesh, and to Windblown for doing the animations (even though he didn't know the character!). It's really great working with people like them! The mesh has a number of transforming parts - guns, a jet pack.
Another funny story. What you see above is actually my second Pod skin. I finished the first version in late November I think, but while I was finishing some more skins every time I'd look back on Pod I grew less satisfied with my work. Then two weeks ago I finally decided to redo the skin. So instead of the Ant-Man preview that week it would have been Pod. The first version was all line work and it just looked blah. I like this better and it better represents the art of the character.
Hopefully I'll resume new skins in March. I have more X-Men skopes from WB to get to, and an Alopex mesh from SA.

Well to be fair I created those boots for another skin and just reused them with minor modifications. The benefits of a large skin library.

Her mutant powers modified her body for high speed flight. She was the smart overachiever type, I tend to like those kinds of characters most of the time. I thought it was odd that she didn't wear a costume, especially since she'd wear clothes during her civilian life. Her body looked kinda cool though, although yet another blue mutant...

No she can fly all the time. Her body can also transform for higher speed flight.
For whatever reason the creators didn't give her a costume. Her whole mutation is supposed to be about changing her body to be aerodynamic, so I'm guessing the idea is that a costume would be counter-productive.

Nature Girl was one of the last new students introduced before Secret Wars. She has the power to communicate with nature. I don't recall her ever talking so she may be mute, but I might just be remembering poorly. I've included her school outfit and a uniform she wore while training in the Nightcrawler ongoing.
Bamfs are miniature creatures based on Nightcrawler. They invested the Jean Grey School and cause all sort of mischief. Nature Girl formed a bond with them due to their powers. A second bonus skin represents Azazel's red Bamfs.
Windblown's awesome skope has a special animation where Nature Girl and a Bamf team up. There's also some cool fxs that will be included when it's released.

Windblown put this skope together. I believe it's the third version he put together. First I finally got around to skinning.
Match is a minor mutant. He appears a lot in background scenes but rarely does much. Still I've always liked his look. Probably my favourite background student from the New X-Men era once Anole and Pixie were upgraded to main status. I'm pretty happy to have finally skinned him.

That's completely true. I didn't like Rockslide during the Academy X days (and I was kinda angry when he was promoted to the main team while other characters were depowered at M-day) but he became one of my favorite characters during Kyle & Yost run. I still miss that book :(

Notably this is one of the earliest skopes Windblown sent me, but as WB is crazy fast and flooded me with skopes so it's taken me this long to skin him. After finishing Rockslide now seemed like the perfect time.
An interesting behind the scenes story: Onyxx was created by Peter Milligan, just prior to the depowering of most of the Marvel Universes universe. The New X-Men writers actually tried to kill the character during the first year on the book but were vetoed by Milligan. They did end up killing the character during the Necrosha event years later, after Milligan had left the X-Books.
I'll never had much interest in Onyxx as a character, but I do think he has a neat design.
Yeah, it's a fairly unique design, and I like it! So many X-Men characters that I know nothing about :wacko:

Preview was a mutant student with precognitive powers. She was depowered during the Decimation storyline. She had a sister, Network, whom Windblown has also skoped and I'll be skinning that soon enough.

First the mutant student DJ, who changes sound into energy. This was another of the short lived minor characters that appeared in New X-Men. Brought to life excellently by Windblown's skope. With DJ finished each of the Paragons squad is complete (Pixie, Trance, Wolf Cub, Match, and Preview are the others).
Also those head phones took forever to skin!

And now a major character that I've never skinned before - Superman!
I was pretty inspired by the Rebirth Superman line - I haven't had a chance to read much, but the books and especially designs were very interesting to me. Thus I decided to skin Superman. This is the Post Crisis Superman, who ended up living a separate life in the New 52 universe with his Lois and raising a son. He's a decade older, and was secretly acting as a hero in the black suit, but when the New 52 Superman died he took on the blue mantle himself. At least that's what seemed to happen - the logistics of DC's universe are a bit of a mess right now.
I skinned both of these a while back. I've gotten into a habit doing a monthly preview with 4 characters, but I just haven't found much time to skin lately and I felt it was a good time to show off my last few skins. Originally I was planning to do a whole Superman line series, but I'm not sure now. I'll definitely be skinning some more skopes from Windblown, so look forward to those this year.

It's really been a mess since the beginning. When the New 52 launched 5 or 6 years ago the past was very poorly defined. Certain books like Batman and Green Lantern were essentially carrying on like normal while other books were being started over from scratch. It was a very poor way to do a reboot in my mind. Still some great stuff was published regardless. This Rebirth stuff just makes it even more messy.
I used a few sources for my Superman face, including TAS. I always want to capture the right face for any characters I skin, though the meshes fight against me most of the time.

I was checking on your most recent work and wow! Your clothwork and faces just gets better and better. I really like how your giving different faces to each character. I was specially impressed with the faces of your teen characters.

First, the Rebirth version of Bizarro. I was doing the Rebirth version of Superman so it made sense to do Bizarro as well. This version is a Superman clone that was being used by Black Mask until Red Hood recruited him for his Outlaws - something like that, I haven't read it.
I'll be doing at least a couple more DC Rebirth skins, even got Windblown to give me a hand.

Secondly, the long awaited Rubbermaid skin. This has some very exciting stretching animations by Windblown. Rubbermaid was another minor mutant student from New X-Men, though most of her appearances were in Xtreme X-Men.

First off I need to thank Windblown. I asked him for some advice on putting the skope for these together and he went ahead and skoped them himself. And as usual he did an excellent job. Thanks WB!
So the first image is her New 52 costume. I'm actually a real fan of this design, as I noted in it's Costume Poll (http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=58518.0). There's some parts that don't work, but I really like how it stands out as a modern take on the traditional Supergirl design. I particularly like the cape. WB came up with a great design for skoping the cape and I'm very happy with how that worked out.
Next is her costume as a Red Lantern. This was the other major costume she wore before Rebirth so I wanted to include it. I didn't read the Supergirl comic but I understand that after the reboot she was introduced with a bit of a chip on her shoulder which eventually lead to her stint as a Red Lantern.
Lastly we have her Rebirth costume which takes it's inspiration from the TV show. I think this costume is fine, but it's so traditional. There's little about it that makes it stand out. WB nailed the hair though.
Tune in next week for another skin preview. And I can assure you you'll be seeing the S again later this month ;).
I haven't read the comics either, but I've seen pics of the Red Lantern costume, and just really love it. You guys did a great job putting her together. On all 3 really, but Red is the stand out for me.

Great skins! I really like how bright they are, and the highlighting looks so natural on her outfit. The new 52 cape has a really cool design, too.
Im not much of a fan of her new knee high boots, though. Too much red for my liking. Thats no knock on your great skins, youre new 52 skin makes me think it was the best of the mos recent designs.

This is his costume as a member of the Superior Spider-Man's Superior Six, where Doc Ock forced his former Sinister Six allies to fight crime. It did not work out well.

This week we have Sarah Vale aka Network, sister of Jessica Vale aka Preview. Network had the power to communicate with machines. She was depowered after House of M and killed in a Purifier attack shortly after.

A very recent creation, I think he may well be the most important character DC has created in a decade. Jonathan Kent is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane - originally the Post-Crisis version but as of a month ago the Post-Crisis and New 52 have been combined into one. So to put it simply Jon is the son of Superman, inheriting his father's powers and becoming the newest Superboy. I say that Jon might be the most important character DC has introduced recently because I feel he's responsible for reinvigorating the Superman titles. I've noticed a lot more interest and news coverage of the Superman books over the last year - and part of that is it is heavily involved in DC's Rebirth/Watchmen storyline, but I really feel the bigger reason is Jon.
Superman is a character who has been around a long long time. He's died, gotten married, had multiple costumes, had his identity revealed - he's done it all. I think at this point in time he's a tough character to really build up a lot of hype and interest about. He's so powerful and has such strong values that it hurts his relatability, and at his power levels it can be difficult to craft an exciting story month in month out. So I think the creation of Jon has really flipped the script on Superman. Having a son makes him more relatable - many readers are parents, and all of us were children (some even currently). It's easier to craft a threat when it doesn't have to be aimed at Superman, it can be aimed at his wife and son in one way or another. It's added a story element about raising a child and expanded the genres that can be covered in the book. It brings something people haven't seen before. Yes there have been stories where Superman has had a child - but never an ongoing series with the main Superman. It even likely has helped reinvigorate Batman's son as it's given Damian (a character who I felt had lost his place at DC for the last couple years) a new character to play off - and from what I've seen of Super Sons it's a great dynamic for the two.
Simply put I think creating Jon was a brilliant move. Definitely increased my interest in Superman. I'll be really interested to see what Jon's future is long term. Certain status quos eventually play themselves out over time and get reset or ignored. Jon could end up that way, but I think Superman, much like the Fantastic Four, is the kind of character who could take having a family as his permanent status quo. I'd also be curious if Jon will ever grow up at some point. Aging children is problematic in comics, a long term story telling medium, as it ages everything. Jon is I think 10 now, if he ever naturally became an adult you have to add 10 years to the time line for everyone. Damian becomes an adult too, Dick is 30ish, Bruce starts getting close to retirement. It why characters like Franklin Richards barely age. I'll be very curious how this plays out in the decades to come.
Anyway this skope is brought to you by Windblown who did a super job with my request. He just has the ability to find the right parts to nail a character.

Superboy is great, Pod. he really looks like a kid and the costume is spot on. WB's skope is amazing too, you two make a perfect team. And BTW I agree with you about Jon's (and Damian's) importance. DC spent too much time and effort rebooting the past over and over again, it's time to move forward. I'm really liking to see Clark as a "Super Dad" and enjoying the kids dynamics on "Super Sons". It's good to see new angles of ages old characters as Superman and Batman.

I actually haven't read any of the comics but hearing you rave about it really makes me want to. I could totally get behind Superman as a dad, also. That's a great place for him to go.

It's a fairly classic costume, except for the belt which is just strange. I think I made it look alright. I've actually had this skin partly finished for months, back when it was first previewed by DC. I just needed a look at the back.
To go along with this new look DC also merged the Post-Crisis Superman with the New 52 version, realigning his personal history. I'm not a fan. Rebirth has been great for how it reinvigorated DC's titles but the timeline stuff they've been doing just makes things so complicated and wipes out so many earlier stories. The New 52 wasn't perfect, but this wasn't the way I'd have chosen to fix it. Anyway hopefully it all works out in the end.
Bottom line: You've got Superman and son to play with.
I'll package the May skins up and hopefully release them by the end of next week.

Gentle can temporarily increase his strength to extreme levels but the strain damages his body so he was given vibranium tattoos to keep his powers in check. Recently he was added to the X-Men Red series.

It was a continuation of the Marvel Legacy project I started so many years ago. Specifically, that hypothetical future's underclassmen of X-Men, which followed the same arch-type as the original five(Cyclops, Beast, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Angel). Windblown and I did complete Marvel Girl. I should probably just make her available; he did a fantastic job making my vision(Marvel pun!(unforgivable)) of her come to life.

I'm by no means a Legion expert but over the last year or so I've become very interested in the team. Probably a result of the Supergirl TV show and various teasing and speculation that the Legion would be returning to DC comics - which was just announced recently. When Benton asked me to skin the star field Star Boy costume I agreed largely because it was pretty easy but also because he hit a sweet spot right now in the form of the Legion. I then went into research mode scouring the DC wiki and some other sources trying to nail down what costumes Thom Kallor had worn over the year. And I found seven different variants of his star field costume and decided to do all of them, and the original caped one as well.
So there's my skin for the year. Maybe it's time to go back into hibernation until 2020...?

I had only read a few Legion stories before I started this DCUG chapter, but I've been reading a lot of the original run, the Jim Shooter ones, and I'll be darned if they aren't some of the best Silver Age DC books I've ever read. They're still a product of their time, but they actually have some characterization, some stakes, and some dramatic sense. And that's all the more astonishing because he started writing them when he was like 14! Anyway, I wasn't much of Legion fan before, but I am now!

My actual Legion reading experience is pretty limited. Mostly just Legion of Three Worlds from Final Crisis (which is awesome) and the backups in Adventure Comics when it starred Connor Kent. Maybe a few occasional issues here or there featuring some members. But I've seen their appearances in cartoons and TV shows, and read some about them. I understand in the 70s or 80s theirs was one of the most popular comics. I'd certainly like to read more.
From a visual stand point they're really fascinating as there's so many of them, so many versions of them, and thus so many costumes and designs.

Pod, i know you are not as active anymore but is there any chance you will upload your cannonball skope that you and Windblown were working on? I'm thinking of making a hero file for him and i remember you were close to finishing it.
I need to see my files, I was working with Afghan Ant on the New Mutants set back then. If I recall correctly, Pod skinned Sunspot and Cypher.

Hey there, I've been checking out your releases and really happy with the range of obscure characters you've covered, it just makes me happy knowing people are giving Bling and Nature Girl some love.
A couple of Qs -
1) Do you still have the Siryn? As an Irish lass I'm upset at the inability to play as one in any superhero games.
2) Do you mind me using these for 3D Prints? Hasbro are dicks so canned the scale I collect and don't tend to like making X-mans anyway. Oh! I had no idea about this, but I'm glad that I decided to post that first skope back then. We did some great collaborations and I really enjoyed them :)
My fun fact would be that when you first contacted me to skin Pixie I was really excited because I'd been a big fan of your skins
for years. Knowing that there was a talented skinner who wanted to skin my skopes of characters so obscure like Network, DJ or Rubbermaid was the main reason for me to try to improve my skoping.

I wasn't sure if I said that before or not. It was the skoping, it was so time consuming to find the right parts and put it together the way I wanted that it was really burning me out. Then you came along doing perfect skopes of characters I was dying to skin. Perfect match.

All but the last skin have been done for quite some time. This was the last set I was working on before Windblown went on hiatus and I got fairly burned out. Since then I skinned Gentle and some Legionnaires, but it's nice to finally finish this set off.
A few years ago Beast brought the original five X-Men from the past to the present in order to force present Cyclops to face the man he had become. The teen X-Men got stuck in the present and had adventures for a few years before finally being sent back last year. Teen Jean was the highlight of the group as regular Jean had been long dead when the past version came around. Of course Marvel then resurrected Jean and we had two Jeans running around for a while.
Nowadays the X-Men have resurrection protocols and everyone comes back.
Wow, great work, Pod! Those are lovely, and I particularly like the faces on the mask-less versions.
Love it. I really enjoyed those characters. It was one of those things were when they proposed it I thought it sounded lame but when I tried it out I was hooked.

The original 5 were always my favorite, so I'm a bit biased here, but I have to say that Jean turned out simply Marvel-ous (pun intended). :D

Jean looks fantastic! I really like the Extraordinary X-men skin (even if I didn't like it a lot on the comic) and the jacket of the X-men Blue one.
Y'know, it's a shame none of the time displaced X-men ever really had good designs during that period. They were all just so... busy.
Don't get me wrong though, I say that in part because these are actually a lot better looking than they have any right to be. These skins are so good I'm left wishing we'd gotten something like Adult Jean's redesign from the latter portion of this era, which I actually really liked.
Well busy is pretty standard for most X-Men costumes in general for the last several years. I liked some of 05 costumes, but none of them were amazing. The first set always make me think of Power Rangers.
Yeah, but every so often we got a good one, Ex. Adult Jean pre-House/Powers of X. I actually wouldn't have minded a slightly updated version of their graduation gear... I get Cyclops not wanting that, but it'd have been cool to see a non blue beast rocking that style of outfit again.
That said, the x-men blue designs were definitely on the better end. Still busy, but they at least kinda matched the style of other X-men designs at the time. The mostly white ones just... didn't look like X-men costumes.
I think I got agree with Tomato on that. Like they were trying too hard to both capture the original look yet set it apart and brand it at the same time. Meanwhile just a solid streamlined design would have worked just as well.

It is so weird looking at the casual version because it kinda looks like wireframes to me even though I know it's not. Skins are all great, love the unique costume, really pops.

The face is sort of amazing. It's wonderfully unique and full of personality. I've never so much as seen a comic with this kid in it, but I think I have an idea of who he is, just from that face.
