Ewzzy's Freedom Force Update
« on: August 08, 2021, 04:04:15 AM »
I've been posting a bunch of fresh skins in my history thread, but hadn't actually updated my website. Now it's up to date. Grab all 17 new skins here:

I've been doing a TON of digging through the Wayback Machine and learning to scrape and sift through old servers. The first result of that is an update to my website!

I've already got 9 pages of retrospective on my old skins and avatars. Now there are 4 more with images from FF Center and New Power Inc.
If you want to remember the good ol' days of skinning, check them out: 10 - 11 - 12 - 13

OH YEAH

I also updated my old Blender tutorial. By "updated" I mean that I removed the flash based slideshow and replaced it with plain old jpgs. Is the tutorial still useful or accurate in 2021? I have NO IDEA!

Oh wow!! I remember all those maps of yours! Junkyard was so fun. It was always my go to map for testing out magnetic and TK heroes like Magneto or Jean Grey. I just loved smashing all the cars into a brute like Juggernaut.

Ewzzy, those were really interesting!  I was particularly intrigued by your commentary about your maps, given my modding work.  Yeah, the Pandemic one is just a port of the mission.  I've played many an RR match on your maps, especially the beach ones.  I've used your highrise map as a base for a map in my Marvel Adventures mod.  I'd be super interested in more reflections and explorations of NPI's mapping scene, as I'm still learning from the work y'all did back then, and there's a lot I don't know, as the site was in its last days when I joined the community.

If you want to get back into mapping, let me know!  I've been dying to get a mapping ally for my mods!  ;)

Thank you all so much for the love and support. I'm afraid I haven't made a map in 15+ years but who knows maybe I'll get the itch again.

I thought that would be the last of my retrospectives but I stumbled across something while digging through the old XDR mod.

It's a batch of avatar skins I made for myself in 2004. They were being used as civilians in the mod.

I've written a full retrospective about them here:
http://freedomforce.ewzzy.com/retrospectives/14.php

The main one in the center is so clearly based on my skater from Tony Hawk's Underground from the time. I can be certain of this because I have screenshots I captured from my ps2 back then!

These were uploaded on my Geocities page at one point. The Wayback Machine shows they were there but didn't keep any of the actual images.

It's crazy looking at this and thinking that I made it in 2004 at age 17. So much of my what makes me me is already there. (along with a bunch of HS era embarassment)

I'm particularly proud of blacking out the unused pixels so the TGA RLE compression could save space.

BTW if anyone knows who made the "civilian_male_pants" used here. Please tell me so I can credit them.

Looking great! I really loved the XDR mod!
I believe that civilian_male_pants was a hex of Texas Jack's avatar mesh.

Neat!  I never played the XDR mod, what was it?

I like the different civilian skins.  Very nice.
