Ok, gang:

Since New Years is literally around the corner, I figured I'd set out a query to all the comic book readers out there. What are some of the best titles, story arcs, or issues you've read in 2009? Considering all the stuff I've read (and reviewed this year), I'll have to come back to the question myself; but perhaps some of you already have an answer? Let us know!

The year was very weak IMHO. But Captain America's regular series and Planetary's final issue were great.

Hmmmmm

The best title of 2009 for me would have to be Scalped, by a long shot. What Aaron has built up the past 4 years seems to be coming to a very epic conclusion. Not for the title, but I'm guessing for a majority of its characters. Very intense and exciting.

The Invincible Iron-Man 12 issue arc was pretty darn impressive, as well as the Conquest arc in Invincible.

Issue of the year would have to be Invincible #63. If it wasn't for the revelation in Invincible #64 I'd still be recovering from the emotional trauma of issue #63.

The best mini-series was Incognito and the best new series was Secret Warriors.

I'm probably forgetting some stuff but I'm sure other people will mention them.

Dark Avengers It has been a great year for villains posing as heroes, a subject that I LOVE.

Chew Basically Monk on the Food Network with some Image touches.

Absolution great Avatar book so far, plenty violent but not as exploitative as many of their other offerings, also fun and creative.

I dunno... more to come.

I agree that it's been a weak year for comics.  Stand out titles from Marvel were Incredible Hercules, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Nova.

Over at DC the only one I'm really enjoying is Secret Six, though they've also got the Wildstorm titles, like Ex Machina (always great, and working towards a conclusion early in the new year) & Astro City, and the Vertigo titles (which I'm actually kinda disappointed in this year).

For other publishers, Locke & Key from IDW is a good read (though a slow-builder), and Dark Horse is putting out a lot of quality Hellboy & related titles.
