Arkham Asylum prequel?

I hope this is true because it sounds great.

Sounds like Lego Batman 2

I'm a little wary of including other heroes. I did like playing as Robin in the Harley's Revenge DLC, and Catwoman was great too. But all 3, and night wing on the challenge maps, have a very similar sense of style.  I have a feeling that the gameplay would be broken if I could be Superman... One punch everyone. Or as flash, and just run across the city in no time flat.
I think Rocksteady have really built something special. I don't want to see the sense of scale get lost by adding overpowered characters.

An idea that they could have done was to make a Batman: Year One game.  He can patrol the streets of Gotham to save people while fighting the Mafia and crooked cops.  Too bad you can mod the game, that would have been a great mod for the PC.

A prequel? The Justice League? Not really what I was expecting or wanted. Seems like a cheat after how the second ended, and I'm not big on the Justice League appearing in anything more than a guest spot. The Batman world and the Justice League world are two completely different things.
Nonetheless I'm sure it will be great.

Just because a prequel is in development doesn't preclude a true sequel from also being developed.

And a free-roam superhero game where each character plays as true to character as Batman does in Arkham Asylum/City is pretty much my gaming nirvana.

Well yes, my statement is only based on the idea that this is their next Batman game.
And I'm not saying it will be a bad game that I won't enjoy, simply that it wasn't what I was hoping for.

I think the inclusion of the Justice League would be just as cameos. Off the top of my head, Green Arrow is the only leaguer I could see fitting the Arkham style gameplay. Everyone else would break the gameplay and make it something else entirely.

I really hope it's not just as cameos, that would be a huge letdown.

Maybe they are trying to make it something else entirely.. and that's not an awful thing, if they did. I trust Rocksteady to deliver.

I don't feel like it's really a prequel so much as an entirely new series they're tentatively tying to this one to build on an existing audience. About the only thing I look forward to so far, based on what I've heard, is that they're setting up the first meeting between Joker and Batman. I'd be lying to say I think it'll be the same without Hamill, but they clearly know how to write the character and I trust them to handle that type of story better then any other adaption has before.

deano_ue

sadly the writing could take a turn for the worse as dini has said he's not been invited back

this whole thing stinks of studio interference

Kind of a "spin-off" type game?

Cat, this is Benton, remember? The sheer fact that this is supposed to be Tim Drake, not Dick Grayson, means that Benton automatically hates him (despite the fact that Tim was always a much better Robin than Dick). He won't be happy until there's a 1960s skin with Robin in elf booties.
Not quite, 'Mato.  I've always preferred the TAS costume.  It's one of my favorite Robin designs.  Also, better Robin than Dick, that's just silly talk. :P

I take it you're not a fan of the hooded Robin look?  Or the other skins that came with the DLC?
No, I'm not a fan of the hooded Robin look.  It seems like they're trying to hard to be "cool," "dark," and "edgy."  The other skins I actually like, but they each have their issues.  The TAS one is my favorite version of the character, but it would really stick out unless the whole game was in that style, like others have said.  I've always loved the Red Robin look, but it's not exactly Robin, is it?  He's a new hero then, a new identity.  That's the one I would use if I were to play Robin, but I'd prefer something a bit more classic if the story is about Robin and not about Red Robin. :)

Mr. Hamrick

I can think of several Batman "family" characters that would fit in the game as "playable characters" as well as some other heroes that have been active in Gotham.  The Creeper and The Question come to mind there.

As for JLA... Green Arrow and Black Canary are the two most obvious.  Depending on how they sat the game up, Supes, WW, and GL might be doable.  However, I would dread The Flash under any circumstance after Lego Batman 2.

You know, this post just made me think.. how incredibly, utterly amazing would a Birds of Prey game be, done by Rockstar, written by Gail Simone?

I would love to see that.
