I've played nearly every DnD computer game over the last 20-30 years, so I'm obviously pumped about this announcement.  I hope the user created content tool is easier than the one provided with Neverwinter Nights 2.

I think the on-line multi-player component could be pretty sweet.

QuoteNeverwinter is not an MMORPG -- it can be played offline with AI. Either way, you'll be part of five-person groups, each of you adopting one of the five classic D&D classes.

Bah! I want to play a Paladin, not a fighter-cleric... thing...
I didn't do it!

What didn't I do?

Bah, 5 classes?  Dumbed down new system?  Give me NWN2 with five zillion class combinations any day.
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

NWN2 was great but a little slow paced, like getting from point A to point B always took a little too long, especially with long loading times. Otherwise I would love it if the game allows for easy matchmaking during modules. If you have a ton of modules (especially if they can be randomized) that you can jump into with your friends or with strangers (via matchmaking) it would be cool. Kind of like an artificial MMO, more like Call of Duty where you play online and gain levels (or offline) BUT you dont have to exist all the time in an online world.

Also Cryptic did a good job of making Champions Online very flexible so HOPEFULLY this game might offer some character options other than what equipment you put on your character (hope progression is not on rails).

Dumbed down?  I thought D&D 4th ed was supposed to be rather the opposite.  This game is supposed to be based on that system.  I confess to having zero experience or knowledge of 4th ed, though.

Maybe the five classes refers to base classes that you can customize to some degree?  There'd be Fighter, Cleric, Rogue/Thief, Magic-User, and possibly Bard.  I can't really think of any D&D class that doesn't derive from those first four in some way.

I also like the fact that it isn't an MMO.

It may be based on the upcoming D&D Essentials, which could be viewed as a "dumbed-down" version of D&D.

According to Penny arcade everyone has one edition of dungeons and dragons that they love and they have hated everyone after that for ruining the game they love. One character recently got the other into the newest edition (4th?) of the game and well...

WARNING contains one curseword, otherwise you are fine.

They can certainly sell expansions with new races and classes.

I wonder if this is a replacement for the table-top/computer interface they were advertising when 4E launched?  I was looking forward to that.
