So, I've got another question for the comic aficionados around here.  Is anyone here reading IDW's new G.I. JOE series?  I've been looking at a few of their books, and it looks like they've made a bit of a return to the classics.  Are these a new continuity from the mess of the Devil's Due books?  If so, I might just be tempted to pick them up.

IDW picked up the series to go two different paths.. follow their own path with one line of books and bring back the classic with another line. Larry Hama is doing the Origins books which fills in the gaps before Marvel's comic line began and also fills in some new storylines along the way to expand in IDWs other Joe titles. Chuck Dixon handles the main G.I. Joe comic which follows it's own continuity but has been adding his own flare along the way since he wants to bring back some of the style of Buzz Dixon (no relation) from his term on the comic at Marvel and writing for the '80s cartoon.

Recently there has been a new and third path brought forward when Max Brooks (World War Z) was brought on board to IDW with his own take on G.I. JOE on the title "Hearts & Minds" which is it's own storyline and universe.

Honestly G.I. Joe comics have never been in better hands and I'm glad to see even IDW managed to aquire the rights to republish arcs of Marvel's classic Joe issues under their G.I. Joe Classic collections. For those unlucky people who never got a chance to read or collect the issues before.

I read the GI Joe: Cobra miniseries about Chuckles being a deep cover Cobra agent..  While it was really good,  it just didn't seem like GI JOE to me... more like an Ed Brubaker ICON title if you know what I mean... it's written by Christos Gage and Mike Costa
