First Image and Cast for Justice League vs. Teen Titans Animated Movie

QuoteThe first image for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Justice League vs. Teen Titans has been revealed by TV Insider along with the cast, which includes Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle in Marvel's Daredevil) as the demon Trigon, Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) as his daughter, the superhero Raven, Jake T. Austin as Blue Beetle, Brandon Soo Hoo as Beast Boy, and Kari Wahlgren as Starfire.

Character designs, at least for those characters who overlap, look similar to Young Justice.

Hmm, this is too modern for my taste (I have zero interest in Damion Wayne and such characters), which is a shame.  That's a fine premise.  The animation doesn't look that great, though.  Also, where's Aqualad?  He was a big hit on Young Justice.  It seems silly to clearly be drawing from that and NOT use him, though I suppose they're going for a modified New Teen Titans lineup.

The reason why Aqualad is not in the movie because he would have smack some sense in to Damian.  I like Damian, but it's getting to be too much.  Don't make him the focus of every movie.

Mehhhhhh. I'm getting so tired of this trope where every time the titans/YJ have to face the JL, they have to be under mind control. It's boring, and robs the story of a fundamental conflict. Yes, losing to fully rational Leaguers is less tense because they won't kill you, but there are ways to ratchet up the tension that aren't as cheap. JLA/Titans did a fantastic job of creating a core conflict that you could relate to on both sides... In that story, Cyborg had gone a bit nuts, and was doing all kinds of earth shaking damage to earth. The Justice League was trying to save the world, but the Titans came to Cyborg's defense because he was part of their family. The mini highlighted the fundamental differences between the teams, but didn't diminish either team in the process.

And if you can't see how that could be done again here, consider this. Raven comes to earth to warn everyone about Trigon. She tries to go to the league, but they don't trust her... according to all their instruments, SHE is the reason for all the demons, and has all the same energy signatures as the rest of the demons, all that stuff. But given his own daddy issues, Cyborg empathises with her, and breaks her free. The two of them assemble the Titans to protect her, only for the league to find them and have a fight. Then Trigon shows up, and both teams join together to stop him.

I want to like this movie. I really do. It's the first time we've seen in awhile that DC is acknowledging the Titans... the REAL Titans, not the N52 ones, and I want them to continue this trend. But it just feels wrong.
