What are DC's best books at the moment?

Just wondering what your personal opinions on what DC's best books are at the moment? I'm out of the loop with the new 52 ... although I have been reading (and enjoying) All-Star Western.

As I'm sure many will reiterate, Scott Snyder's Batman. Of the stuff I've read from the New 52, it may be the only genuinely great one. Personally I'm really enjoying the two Geoff Johns Justice League books right now, but I don't know how wholeheartedly I can recommend them as it's going to depend somewhat on your personal tastes.

Scott Snyder's Batman and Brian Azzarello's Wonder Woman. There are other titles that fluctuate in quality, but these two have been consistently good.

Batman. Can't get over how good.

I want to say Batgirl but maybe some people don't like Grrl Power/overcoming adversity themes. You should though it's good stuff.

I haven't got around to Snyder's Batman (nor have a I read American Vampire), but I plan to! Is it the same vein as Morrison's run or less fantastical? Who would you compare his writing to?

I've got all of Geoff Johns JSA trades (which was, by and large, ok) ... is his Justice League work similar?

The only thing I've liked in what I've read of Justice League is the Captain Marvel, pardon, Shazam backup. Swamp Thing, Animal Man, The Flash and Batman, Inc. have been relatively enjoyable, and Wonder Woman had some very good issues.

Aquaman, I suppose.  I've heard good things about the books the others have mentioned, but Justice League and Flash have both been losing my interest and disappointing me.  I've dropped everything but the King of the Sea.  That book is good, but I don't think DC is putting out anything that is really amazing.

Wonder Woman, hands down.

It's been stellar.

I also enjoyed the Shazam back-up story in the JLA comic (more than the actual JLA stories themselves.)

Snyder's Batman is probably a lot more grounded than Morrison's stuff. I'd probably describe it as a crime thriller.

Dial H is pretty good, but this current arc is starting to drag a bit.

i guess I'm in the minority, because I've found the Shazam backups in Justice League an absolute slog to get through.

Oh yeah, I've been meaning to get into Dial H because its written by China Mieville. Big fan of his books and I'd always hoped he'd write Hellblazer one day.

Is Suicide Squad any good?

The short answer: No.

The long answer: It could be, with a decent writer who knows how to make the character likable. The book had a few strikes against it when it started... it was where the 'New 52' Harley Quinn debuted, and her costume and character changes were needless and, frankly, not very well thought out, the book relied too much on blood 'n guts for shock factor as opposed to decent storytelling, and this was the book that replaced Gail Simone's Secret Six, which was far and away one of DC's most loved books in recent history.

I will say, Squad is getting better, but it's not worth $3, and I don't expect the title to go much longer before it gets cancelled.

That sucks I was big Suicide Squad and Secret Six fan ... I was also bummed to hear that DC cancelled plans to collect John Ostranders Suicide Squad run. Meanwhile, Marvel is doing some big collections for Thunderbolts...
