I've bet close to $200 that TDKR will not surpass the Avengers in the box office

I'm sure it will do well, but that Avenger shattered so many records that I really do not expect TDKR to be able to surpass it.

Dunno, but last I heard TDKR was tracking well, I recall reading it's early numbers were close to Avengers.

Dark Knight Rises will certainly have a great opening week and it has the advantage of being late in the summer with lower competition over the following weeks.

However, I just don't think people will give it as many repeat viewings as Avengers.  Heck, somehow I ended up seeing Avengers 3 times because other people wanted to go watch it with me.  I only saw Dark Knight in theaters twice, and that was pretty much my all time favorite superhero movie.

I think your money is safe.  I also think that making that sort of bet is kinda like scamming whoever you made the bet with.

Comparing Avengers to The Dark Knight Rises is like comparing apples and oranges. 

Apples and Oranges are both fruit.
The Avengers and TDKR are both comic book movies and action films by default.

That's where the similarities end.  Period. 

The Avengers is a film that is best classified as a sci-fi/action film.  It was designed to have some over the top special effects and lots of CGI.  There are more heroes with more fan bases being brought to the table.

The Dark Knight Rises is meant to be an action film that is based in a mostly realistic environment.  Minimal CGI (if any though I have heard there is at least a little bit toward the end as well as the football field scene shown in the trailer) and more "stunts" than special effects.

Then there is also Whedon and Nolan who have two rather different fan bases.

I'm not saying don't take the money of whoever you made the bet with.  I'm just saying that it is foolish to go into The Dark Knight Rises expecting to see the same kind of super hero flick that you saw with the Avengers.

1. Not in 3D

2. Not enough IMAX theaters.

Pretty sure it will set a record for opening weekend for a 2D movie. I'm going to say 190M on opening weekend.

I actually think the biggest reason the Dark Knight Rises won't beat the Avengers, is that a major actor in it hasn't died.  I believe the primary reason the Dark Knight's box office was so much higher than the solid Batman Begins was Heath Ledger's brilliant performance, compounded by his untimely death.

I doubt it will do as wella s the Avnegers due in part to the clips of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman that I've seen.  Catwoman si supposed to be full of confidence and sexual energy and from the stuff I've seen and heard, Hathaway falls flat on both accounts.  She's not bad to look at, but the lines that one would think would exude sexuality and confidence she doesn't succeed at.  Give me Pfiefer's Catwoman any day over Hathaway!
