Who Uses Character Tool?

How many non-skinners/meshers/skopers use Character Tool for either  :ff: or  :ffvstr:?

I asked because I see random post time from time where none skinners/meshers/skopers complain about the feature set (or lack there of) or some other issues.

Previsionary

I do. Do I actually qualify? Well, speaking under my modder mindset, I use it to go through animations for cutscenes. Though, I don't recall complaining about anything related to it. I'll need to do that sometime. ^^

USAgent

I use the character tool to check out new meshes to see what they look like and what type of animations they have and also I use it to make sure a converted mesh works right.  Its just alot quicker that loading the game to test things out.

Ah both points make sense. I guess since I usually dont open character tool unless I'm working on a skope (to see if the piece float) I really dont use it often.

Yep same here

Podmark

I use it all the time for a variety of reasons: checking out meshes, checking out skins, checking animations for herofiles, checking parts for skopes, checking skopes, making skins. If I'm not actually planning on playing the game then it's invaluable.

daglob

I use it to check out new meshes and see if the skin I'm working on is worth releasing or needs to be relegated to the "Things Man Was Not Meant To Know" department. And recently to see if scoped pieces are connected or not.

stumpy

I use it to check out animations for power design and to see which ones I want to hex/skope to get different contacts, timing, etc.

Symon

When I first got FF, I used it to check out downloads of skins/meshes to decide if I wanted them in my game.
Now of course I use it to check out my meager skin efforts, improving mesh efforts and NifSkope work.
Wouldn't have liked to make my Shadow Cruiser without it!

Robsoie

I use it (the FF1 version as i don't have FFT3R )  basically only to check :

-Sometime it is not stated clearly in a readme file if a character is "FFT3R only" or can be used in FF1 and instead of wasting time loading the whole game just to see if the mesh works, character tool is quicker to give me an answer.

-when looking for meshes in the hundred of yahoo places, there is simply no screenshot to see what the mesh looks like exactly, character tool quickly gives an idea if the mesh is exactly what i was looking for.

-half the time when getting a mesh there is no keyframe file and unfortunately sometime the readme does not state what animation file such mesh is using, character tool comes in handy when trying to see which is the correct keyframe as i can swap files without having to launch/quit the game.

My sentiments exactly. I use it because i got tired of having to wait for the game to load. My PC runs rather slowly so you can see why. I Don't think i have complained about animations, if i did it would be for the lack of gliding batman meshes(I tried to use that animation converter thing to add a glide to batman gren and it froze, any time i tried to add an animation it froze. what ever).

I do the same thing. Also I run a pencil and paper Champions RPG and I use it to make counters and character illustrations.

Ah a fine game. Don't suppose you've done any skins or meshes?

OMG, You have a quote from 'Lord of Light" my favorite novel ever!.
Anyway,I've kitbashed a few to make up players characters but mostly the community has provided. There is a skin/mesh for almost any concept.  I'm not very good at it despite having been a commercial artist for a few years many moons ago.
It a great campaign. I've been running it since the mid 80s and gone through several generations. Some players are now playing their older characters kids or grandkids.

Roger Zelazny is one of my favorite writers ever. Even his WORST is better than far too many people's best. Maybe I ought to ask if anyone has done any Amber skins...

I inherited my campaign from two other GMs, but I guess I've run it for something like 10-15 years now. My PCs are stuck in comic book time...
