Horse riding

My Father has two "American Saddler" Horses on his farm and then the one called Eagle is what would be described as "hot", I am the only one brave or stupid enough to ride him. He really is an amazing horse when you can control him.

So this weekend he went off on one of his full speed ahead running fits, he is so strong/stubborn it is hard to pull him in. Now where this is all good on a straight, around a turn with a ditch this can get ugly and so it indeed did. Previously I have been able to either grab him by the neck and hang on side or just manage to remain on top somehow but this time I went on flying and well the landing was not as enjoyable but luckily my face broke the fall.

Anyway you can imagine I don't look all that good right now. My girlfriend went completely white when see saw me and thereafter beat me up even worse than the fall. But it looks far worse than it is.

So well any other horse riders around?

I'm a pretty-good rider.. but probably far less so now then my teens and twenties when I lived in Texas and Oklahoma and my parents always lived near a large stables where I could catch a ride in trade of doing some chores. I even learned horse vaulting (keep balance while a horse is moving so you can stand or even switch to sidesaddle and how to mount a horse without a saddle) during my early teen years. Never had the luck of falling or being thrown from a horse I was riding but that was probably because I was often using well trained horses that were used to riding with morons or inexperienced riders on their backs.

Heck, I live in horse country Virginia now and rarely get a chance to go riding these days since I'm married to a woman who is absolutely scared of horses but my son is taking an interest in trying to ride since he has seen video of my parents and myself riding back in the day. So.. who knows if I might go on a riding trail or horse ranch vacation in the near future just to let him try and see if I have not lost my cowboy ways.

Thanks, I am fine though.

Never had training or did any of those things. Though I did (not intentionally) the first time I rode Eagle, we where not feeling each other and when I jerked him he stood up on his hind legs. It was a surprise but apparantly looked rather impressive. The less impressive part was me not waiving an arm like a cowboy but looking rather well use your imagination.

I rode for a while when I was working for the RSPCA but I never got over being saddle sore -_-

Quoteouch. dood. u really should stick to more tame animals ;-)

Yeah, I know that is what my girlfriend shouted at me too. (had the superman actor speech)

You should see my face = phantom of the opera.

But if you want the great things in life you have to risk a bit for it and this horse really is amazing when you get it right.
Yes just being stupidly brave and then being badly injured is not on, so we are going to get this type of device that helps to keep the horse's head down. If that fails I will indeed not ride him again.
