Tabula Rasa

Guess what rolled out of my Christmas stocking?

Haven't installed it yet; anyone else playing?

gdaybloke

Expanding on that, I've created my first two toons. I'll be taking them for a test drive after Christmas dinner tonight.

Apparently all of your toons in TR share the same last name - it's your global identifier, I guess.

Since Bloke and Day were already taken, I've gone with Erman, opening the door for any number of corny name gags. Thus, my first two toons are Trigg Erman and Hyp Erman.

I'm not quite sure how this'll develope if I create a female toon/clone, but we'll see how it goes.

Kommando

I'm still undecided if i want to get back into it.  I did beta test Tabula Rasa and it was fun.  If they fixed the memory leaks (death by lag was a regular event in large battles) then it would probably be great fun.  Problem is I can't afford a second MMO at this time, so to switch over would be at the cost of COX.  But yeah, its fun.

My reasoning is that a one month subscription costs about the same as abour 3 DVD rentals. That's 6 hours entertainment. So long as I get 6 hours over the course of a month out of a game, then its earned its keep.

Midnight

I played through beta. It was interesting, but I'm sticking with CoH for now.

Verfall

I've been looking at switching from COH to something else for awhile now. My 3 choices so far were that pirates MMO, WOW and Tabula.

My current comp can't handle Tabula, Pirates looks rather clunky and I always swore I'd never play WOW. But of the 3, WOW looks to be the easiest to get into. I can just latch onto Spud's coat tails.

gdaybloke

Can't really latch onto coat tails when there's no sidekicking function to speak of. Heh.

I'm avoiding WoW as well. Fantasy MMO's, as well done as they may be, are metaphorically a dime a dozen. I'm semitempted by the Warhammer one in development, but that's pretty much due to nostalgia for the gameworld (I used to play a lot of WFB before I immigrated).

Tabula Rasa is sci fi, so something kinda special in the currently available market.

Tortuga

My brother has been playing TR for the last month, but his free month has just ended and he's not sure when he'll resubscribe.  If/When he does, I'll get you his info.

So last night I hit lvl 7. I'm carrying my trusty rifle and shotgun, and I've picked up two varieties of machine gun. I've also crafted fuschia armor paint, but haven't applied it to my armor, I'm not sure I'm ready to run around in fuschia just yet.

I unlock my first kill badge, complete a bunch of missions, and end up at the Landing Zone, a fortified outpost. I speak to a couple of peeps and they give me missions that basically translate to defend the base against the bane assault. Okay, says I, I'll run up to the walls and shoot whatever I see.

I run up to the walls and... nothing. Well, a boargar and some tree lurkers, but that's like bullseye'ing womp rats in a T-16. I venture out, complete another nearby mission (by the by, I'm loving how many missions you can carry at once, and the ability to turn them on or off on the map), and just as I return, what the heck? FULL SIEGE!

A horde of bane, including mobs I'd never seen, pounding on the base walls and forcefields. I crack out old Betsy and start firing. The bane break through into the base proper, and next thing you know we're scrabbling to regain control of our own damn base.

I wasn't on a team, I'm not part of a clan, so I'm still running solo - but damn if that wasn't a buttload of fun that kept me playing for a good two hours after I normally would have logged off.

You can always try one of the numerous FREE MMOs out there.  I'm currently playing Sword of the New World (refer friend code: D0DAF39A) and RappelzGunz looks interesting, and I may try that one too.

Edit: Gunz turned out to be nothing more than a persistent deathmatch game.  Literally no "adventuring".

UnfluffyBunny

anyone still on this? if so what server?

gdaybloke

I'm playing on Cassiopeia at the moment, probably 4-5 nights a week.

UnfluffyBunny

I picked the game up yesterday, got a lvl 6 soldier running round currently, need to hit 7 so i can use my new shotgun, heh

gdaybloke

What server are you running on, what name's the toon?

GhostMachine

I'm considering looking for something else to play, but I don't want to try one of the "freebie" MMOs, because inevitably you end up needing to spend cash for stuff (gear, outfits, other crap) anyway, since that's how they stay in business - toss out some shiney or exclusive abilities and such that people pay for, instead of having subscription fees.

Tabula Rasa doesn't quite look like my cup of tea, even if Lord British is behind it, and there is absolutely NO WAY I will go back to WoW, since the reasons why I quit probably haven't been addressed.

UnfluffyBunny

i'm actually playing on Cassiopeia because it was the first on the list :P and I knew playing on the eu server would be less likely to run into anyone I might know who was playing
my intial toon is "syn aygrave" (as graves was taken, my secondlife surname is graves and i kinda got acustomed to it)
aygrave also leaves open clone names like diggin, doug, trippin, phil'in and robin

on the topic of free mmo vs monthly payment mmo, most "free" mmo's make more money, becaus epeople stupidly buy out everything from micropayment stores to make their characters "uber" (and as such... the same as everyone elses)
so yeah, thats why i've stopped playing archlord and rising force online

gdaybloke

The surname of my Cassiopeia toons is Bloke, feel free to ping a friend request when you're on - if I'm on at the same time we'll be dandy and can team! Whee!

Right now I have Gday Bloke in the mid-high teens (Ranger), his unplayed clone Beckah Bloke (Commando), and Tasha Bloke is a lvl 6 Specialist.
