I recently picked up the Beyond the Sword expansion for CivIV.  It's gotten me back into playing Civ, which I like not only because it's a great game, but also because you can just get up and walk away (go potty, eat dinner) and not have to futz with anything.

Any other Civ players around here?

Ya and i have been considering the expansion.  I think there were two actually but Beyond the Sword was the most recent.

I know BAD is a big fan as well.  Personally, i would still play the original Civ if it ran on XP, i was hooked from the start.  In fact the original Civ may have been the first game i ever stayed up all night playing.  I enojyed Master of Orion as well but not as fervently.  Civ2 was OK but fun as my first intro into mod'able games.  Civ: Call to Power was meh, but graphically much of an improvement.  And then the wonderment that is Civ4 has brought it all togehter IMO.  More dynamic gameplay, great graphics, multiplayer. Not that i use it to its fullest functionality, but who doesnt enjoy ruling the world, right.

I've played Civ on and off since the beginning.  I have copies of II, III and IV still but I just don't play them very much these days.  Its always fun to conquer the world, and I enjoy playing IV, but I do so infrequently and I have to play on the lower difficulty levels to enjoy it.  I haven't looked into the expansion packs yet, but next time the Civ bug hits me I surely will.  Would you recommend this one over other expansions or add-ons Yuan?

I've actually got Civ 4 beyond the sword (the 'extra' mod) minimized while my friend Tom is in the bathroom. We play this on lan at least every couple of weeks and I couldent be more hooked after a million games. I'll post some good mods for the game latter...

Beyond the Sword includes the previously released Warlords material - units, wonders, mods - so you can get the whole schmeer with just this pack.  It includes a couple of interesting looking sci-fi based mods which I'm going to play once I get to my space race vistory on the current game.

If you're looking for more mods, the absolute best place is www.civfanatics.com  Also more strategy guides than you could ever read.

Cheers UY, I will certainly give this a look-see.

Ya don't nneed to tell me about civfanatics though; I have been a big fan of there ever since I got my mauly scrubbers on the Warhammer mod for Civ III.

Although, I will admit in hindsight that it might well have been you that told me about civfans back then in the first place...

Uncle Yuan

And that Warhammer mod rocks!

Civfanatics.com...oh, why did I ever look in this thread.  The addiction that is Civ is all coming back to me.  The lonely nights of downloading Civ 3 mods, via phone line.  The lack of hard drive space for extra rulers and expansion civs.  The endless replacement of existing units.  The marathon gaming sessions...just one more round! Oh how I swore I'd never buy another Civilization game, and all for naught.  Now I'm planning on all of add-ons.  Selecting the scenarios I want to play.  And devising how I can justify the time I'll spend playing this title when I finally break down and buy it.

Kommando

I can't remember how many hours I spent making scenarios, maps and tech trees for Civ II.  Civ IV is almost intimidating, though I did try the space scenario for a while.  I have to play it in short bursts, of a coupe of days every so often because I will stay up all night playing it.  Because its in the Gamebryo engine, I have had to resist finding a way to make units from Freedom Force (as much as I would love to see Minute Man as a warlord), otherwise I would never sleep again.

Dang it, I bought Civ IV: Gold and it's more addictive than I remember.  Just found BTS on sale over the weekend, so now I'm waiting on the postman to bring me, gulp, more Civs!!!!

Anyways, I noticed that the units can be opened in Nifskope.  Is anyone into making custom Civ IV units or leaders?

I dont do any artwork myself but I'm currently working on a mod called Civ 4 Remix which shakes up the game a bit making for a different player experience. The main bits are One more early game religion (so you have at least 3 civs with starting religions making for more conflict), re-written system for religions and corporations and a massive overhaul of the available civics.

Cosmetically Im using a some units, civilizations, leaders and interface mods from other people with credit of course.

Sounds interesting.  I think the fact that I can usually be the founder of at least 3 religions a little odd.  It looks like this mod will address that from the get go.  I'll keep an eye out for it.

As for units, I saw a Phoenix out there, and was thinking an X-men/Sentinel War scenario could be a plausible mod.
